Bug hating and violence toward bugs being the Normal Reaction sucks so much, but it also hits different on an alterhuman level. We picked up a millipede from our bathroom (silly guy somehow got in there)--and me being very closely related in an alterhuman way to these guys, I accidentally slipped into front. So I go "damn ok I'm me now" and start carrying it outside to put it in the garden.

Buuut. One of our siblings just comes up to us, sees the millipede, and starts freaking out and telling us to kill it. Like that's... I dunno! You can clearly see I'm removing it from the house, it's just an animal, fear is one thing and I understand fear! You can stay away from it if you want. But you're screaming at me to kill this random animal? And unfortunately, that caused other people in the house to also come gawk and call me a freak too.

And I'm just so tired. Can't be a centipede therian without people going "eww" and can't carry a pretty similar little guy outside to a nice spot in the garden without people wanting me to get violent. Like.. I see myself in this little thing and even if I didn't I wouldn't understand why "kill it" is the okay reaction to have. I'm arthropodhearted in general and it's so upsetting that we're expected to be okay with just killing random animals because people find them scary or gross.

I guess there's some solidarity about it between me as a therian and the concept of bugs being almost universally hated... but I honestly think people should just not start telling people to kill things they're holding, just a thought! That shouldn't need to be something to even be a concept.

Anyway I put the guy in our garden, there's plenty of nice places for it to hide out there and it won't be disturbed again.

For reference, I also heavily identify with canines and felines, and I am a specifically Turkish Van Cat therian, but I am also opposum, raven, and specifically American toad therian as well as angelkin and cryptidkin (I’m not 100% on if I’m using these terms right but in my soul I know I have been these animals and I miss it, I know I have times that I shift into these headspaces and I struggle with species dysphoria a lot, and I find myself frequently feeling wings/extra eyes, feeling like I’m glowing, etc and when I see myself in my headspace I see myself as an angel a lot)

I don’t consider myself a therian, the only thing I really use to describe myself is puppy/dog kin… not because I disagree with the ideologies but because I don’t want to be squished into the label box. This doesn’t mean I’m any less included in the community, and neither are you!

i remember there was still wallpaper in one of the rooms

thinking about the time i was on a camping trip in north carolina. we were on a hike through a forest and theres a little side trail that goes up a hill. me n some friends go up to check it out. pretty plants and an abandoned chicken coop thing + house. i was one of like 2-3 people who were gonna walk up to the door and look inside, the foundation looked really unstable so others were more cautious. all of a sudden a giant black thing bursts out of the doorframe. vulture, although it looked like a cat or dog or crow for a second.

i wish i was that. that decaying house could be my home and i could live in the beautiful forests of north carolina.

I have a strong feeling of nature connection when the flowers bloom and such, but it always goes away when autumn rolls around. I also just get such a strong connection to nature and wildlife? Its very very strange.

i dont usually talk about this but something that really frustrates me as someone who identifies as otherkin is the agonizing lack of education, care or understanding of animals despite all of you identifying with and/or being one. No, that fox video is not cute, no, that behaviour is a myth and No that fur is not ethically sourced. you went on etsy and purchased from a buyer who probably sells on aliexpress too. im begging for you all to just educate yourself better and if you want to engage with looking after the environment perhaps consider getting involved with charities, ecological efforts [ like planting native trees in areas with habitat loss, planting wild native flowers etc] and phoning in to local/state government to get protective laws passed instead of illegally feeding wildlife in your yard and letting your cat out to kill native birds. Sincerely, a meadow loving roe deer who is frustrated with everything all the time

please dont take this as an attack or criticism on you as a person, just put in your effort to learn and cultivate instead of assume and consume. Plus reading up on native wildlife can be so utterly rewarding and wonderful<3

I said this before, but it's breastfeeding and preening my *nonexistent* cubs. When I discovered my cheetah identity, it revolved around my cubs (and it still does). Whenever I feel cheetah, it's always my motherly instincts.

Theriform

Adjective (can be applied as a noun in certain phrasing, see examples)

From θηρίον (thēríon) [diminutive of θήρ thḗr, “wild beast”] and μορφή (morphe) ["shape"/"figure"/"look"].

Definition:

A theriform animal is one which was born into a body that is typical/expected of it's species and observable as such by everyone, with species-typical levels of sapience/intelligence and whose behaviour is unaltered by being born into a human body/raised in a form perceived as human.

It is not the 'opposite' of therian despite similar etymology but is instead to be viewed as a complimentary term to therian, nonhuman, alterhuman, otherkin etc as it exists to specify certain details of a species whilst not invalidating the identities of those who are not theriform. It is made to replace potentially invalidating phrases like 'bio(logical) animal' or 'real animal'.

It is not an identity label and therefore has no flag or symbol and does not need one. Do not create these things please, or use the term to describe yourself on a personal level.

Alternative versions for non-animals could include: floraform, nat(ur)form, techform, fictoform, feyform, voidform, starform, divineform etc

Examples:

"Lol it's so funny being a cat and having a theriform cat as a pet we're both just kitties vibing but with different body shapes."

"Just because they're the same species as you does not mean you are able to take care of wild theriforms."

"The fact that there aren't that many theriforms of my species is so saddening."

My alterhumanity

I have known I was Alterhuman since about the age of 10-11. Although, I definitely still have questions regarding my own experiences and labels. I've been trying out a few over the years but none have really stuck. The typical Alterhuman is experienced non-physically as an identity. I on the other hand consider myself to be possibly a physical therian. Obviously I biologically am a human (yuck.) but I don't physically identify as such. I've also looked into/am looking into, terms like TransSpecies.

My experience with the community online is that it has been strongly run by minors. The tik Tok and yt community tends to focus on the more athletic/aesthetic therians and exclude plus sized therians like myself. While I have no issue with minors and what not, I never have been able to learn what I identify with due to all the stigma and drama around different labels and the main focus on aesthetic/sport.

I just as much as the next person, enjoy masks and gear. It helps me feel confident and myself. Nothing against the artists of the community.

So, with that out of the way, I hope to be welcomed into the Tumblr therian community and I will return the same energy. I am mainly here for education and to have fun with the community!
