THINK ABOUT HOW MANY PUPPIES WILL GET TO EXPERIENCE SNOW FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS WINTER. PUPPIES. CONFUSED ABOUT WHY THEIR FEET ARE COLD. CONFUSED ABOUT THIS FLUFFY STUFF. GOTTA BITE IT. GOTTA ROLL IN IT.
Well let me tell you, it was quite the pragmatic purchase. It has endless uses in my morning routine.
Such as making the bed:
Making toast:
Getting things off high shelves:
Making coffee:
Reaching the remote when it’s too far away:
And assisting me when I ran out of toilet paper:
I don’t know how I survived life without it.
Maybe we don’t heal by convincing ourselves that someday, the pain will fade; that we’ll return to our former selves and reclaim the life we used to have. Maybe we heal when we accept that it’s okay to never go back; when we stop trying to use the broken pieces to rebuild the old picture, and instead, create a new one. Maybe we heal by affirming that even with this pain, we can craft a life that gives us meaning; that even when there are storms that flood our hearts, we can learn how to swim; that when night falls, we can learn how to create our own light. Maybe, it means trusting that no matter how many times we have to recreate ourselves and redirect our path, we will end up where we’re meant to be.

I’ve noticed many of the smartest people I know, mostly premeds and medical students, struggle with depression and have for years. I wouldn’t have guessed if they hadn’t mentioned it. It seems odd to me that they do well academically and seem to have everything under control, but they themselves don’t believe they do. Also, to me, depressed premeds and med students seem like the norm now since I’ve met so many of them…have you noticed something similar? And what do you think may be the cause? -mademoisellepremed
