Stretch Armstrong and Why You Should Watch It

1. Stretchy bois

2. DIVERSE stretchy bois!!! Jake has a single, overbearing father and his mother passed away, Ricardo is a black teen with two successful parents who are never home, and Nathan is a Chinese (???? Not stated explicitly) teen with a massive, loving family.

3. Scott Menville (Robin, Teen Titans) and Steven Yeun (Keith, Voltron: Legendary Defender) voice two of the three main leads which is fucking amazing to listen to and provides great amv fodder

4. Main black character who used to be in a gang but pulled himself up and now helps manage and run the most successful company in town

5. Sly Chinese grandpa who finds out the kids are superheroes and instead of telling offers them a cover story if they need one

6. Bad ass female characters who don’t need no man (but still date because girls can do what they want)

7. Boys who aren’t afraid!!! To have feelings!!! And one who’s learning that thats okay!!!

8. Terrible humor and making fun of slang terms. So many puns about stretching.

9. Criminals who are only criminals because they don’t really have another choice who are given second chances instead of jail time

10. Really nice looking animation????

11. A continuous story arch but each episode is still unique to the show

12. Overall diverse show??? Like even background and side characters aren’t just white?? I haven’t watched the whole series and so far there isn’t lgbt stuff, but I wouldn’t put it past them.

13. Botany teacher who is WAY too into plants. And everyone loves said plants. Also botany teach is super protective of his students

14. Bois who enjoy some schoolwork but also hate it. You know, like a normal teenager.

15. Side character bully played by Josh Keaton (Shiro, VLD) who HATES Nathan (played by Steven Yeun [Keith]) which is fucking hilarious

16. Such polite bois who say please and thank you to the villains

In conclusion pls watch this show I’m so pleased with it thus far its worth your time I promise

“Safety first. What are you? FIVE?” Tony/rhodey

“Oh my god, seriously?” Rhodey groans. “Safety goggles?” 

“Yes,” Tony answers primly. “I wasn’t raised like an animal, Rhodey.” 

“Oh, rich boy?” Rhodey asks. “I saw you come home last night and attack that ramen as if you were eating your last meal as a wild dog. Shut up.” Tony rolls his eyes, still snapping his goggles on. 

“I’m sorry, I’d rather be blinded by something else rather than my lack of knowledge about basic safety procedures, darling dearest.” 

“Can you guys quit flirting and actually get started on your robot?!” Kendra calls from the other side of the room. “Some of us actually ate a good breakfast!” Rhodey flips her off, but takes a pair of goggles. 

“Only because you’re a nerd for safety,” he says. 

“Whatever you say honey,” Tony responds. “Besides, don’t listen to Kendra. We’re already about two weeks ahead of schedule, and I think this one is gonna be awesome.” 

“We already built Dum-E, who you said was going to be awesome, and then he planned a road trip to downtown Boston,” Rhodey snarks. “Real classy, by the way.” 

“You’re the one who gave him a rambunctious personality,” Tony says. “I’m not responsible for that one.” 

“And yet, everyone attributes it to you,” Rhodey says. “Almost like you’re the troublemaker.” 

“You love it,” Tony grins, going in for a quick peck. “I was thinking, they put in a new Indian restaurant, and I met the new owner, and he said we should stop by for date night. They promise the best ever.” 

“You just want an opportunity to tip over a hundred percent.” 

“…correct.” Rhodey rolls his eyes. 

“Sure, babe. Six work okay for you?” 

“Yes!” 

what are some things that the batkids picked up from bruce that makes them remind people of him, like the way someone smiles or a nervous tick they dont notice

To start off, every single one of them has inherited Bruce’s most prominent nervous habit: counting. Bruce counts exits, people, weapons, seconds, windows, inches, and everything else. It calms him down to know how many. It makes him feel like he’s sufficiently aware of his environment. 

The kids picked it up because Bruce quizzes them. Walk into a room with Bruce and he’s likely to ask for a few stats. It’s part of training; therefore, every kid developed the habit of counting anything Bruce might ask about. None of them ever lost the habit, so any of them can give a statistical situation report at the drop of the hat. It comes in handy. 

Obviously they also gained his ability to appear/disappear at will, but that was intentional.

When he’s annoyed or suspicious, Bruce narrows his right eye more than his left. Tim does the same thing, at about the same frequency.

Bruce wears an heirloom ring with the family crest, and he turns it absentmindedly while he’s thinking. Jason won’t wear rings because he knows that when he does, he’ll twist them too. 

Bruce and Cass have the same asymmetrical grin.

Since Duke is new on the job, he repeats Bruce’s instructions to himself while he works, including the original tone and inflection. It’s not an intentional imitation, but it’s a good one. 

Dick inherited the most. It’s only natural. After all, he’s been with Bruce the longest. Mutual friends often say that Dick and Bruce talk the same, in a way they can’t really explain. It’s a little bit of a different situation, because it’s not just that Dick picked up Bruce’s habits. They’re two people who have borrowed so many of each other’s mannerisms that they end up somewhere in the middle. Nobody quite knows who started what. 

Damian makes the “hnn” sound. Who did he pick that up from? Trick question. It was Dick, while Bruce was fake-dead, BUT Dick picked it up from Bruce, so it still counts. 

Damian actually has a lot of his father’s mannerisms and habits, because he copies them intentionally. He really wants to be like Bruce :)

I recently ran into this problem while writing and when I did some google searches for a solution I wasn't able to find a lot. My story is written in first person and I don't know how to introduce my character's name without sounding cheesy or cliche. The "My name is [character] is so cringey but I'm not sure how to introduce my character to the reader in a way that sounds natural. Any advice?

Have someone they talk to call them by their name. 

Have a stranger ask them their name for a good reason (e.g. a barista or nurse).

Have them feel annoyed at seeing their name misspelled or hearing it mispronounced.

Have them fill out forms and whoever receives the form comments on the name (e.g. ”Oh, that’s a pretty name” or “Nice, that’s my cousin’s name” etc.).

Have them respond to hearing their name or one similar to it when it isn’t them someone is trying to communicate with (e.g. Kara hears someone call out “Karen” on the street, and turns her head).

Have them mention that another person in their social group has their name (e.g. ”The other Rachel in our book club said…”).

If they primarily go by a nickname, have someone who calls them by their full name make an appearance (e.g. a sudden phone call from their mother, who insists on calling them by their birth name).

Have someone make a joke/pun with their name (e.g. a rival calling them “Dick” when their name is Richard).

Have something associated with them carry their name (e.g. a family business called “Bob Howard & Sons” or a vanity plate on their vehicle).

They like searching through personalized keychain racks and magnet displays to see if their unusual name is in there this time.

Have it mentioned in roll call (this one’s a bit common in a school setting, but roll calls can happen in certain other settings too).

Have them read a letter, email, or something else addressed to them.

There must be a dozen other ways. Use these to brainstorm and find one that fits your story better.

Not Going Anywhere

Something different! I watched FMAB earlier this year, and have been self-indulgently rewatching my favorite episodes lately. I know, I was HELLA late to the party, @elsie-mcclay convinced me to watch it (thanks for beta-reading by the way, queen) and I fell in love with the characters. More specifically, Roy Mustang and his not so subtle love for Riza, his amusing turned extremely depressing friendship with one Maes Hughes, and his acting as a parental figure to a very short, very outspoken alchemist. The last of these is what I chose to write about. If you like this and want to potentially see more FMA stuff, please tell me what you think, since I’ve never written for these characters before. I hope you enjoy!

In which Ed and Roy are both idiots who will do anything to save someone in danger, especially if that person is someone they care about. And they stop being stubborn long enough to admit that maybe they do care if the other were to die.

Roy sighed, and checked his watch once more. He didn’t know why it surprised him that Fullmetal was late, again.

He had half a mind to go out for a drink and make the kid wait once he did decide to show up. See how the Fullmetal Alchemist liked having his patience tested.

But as a superior officer, Roy knew he couldn’t do something so childish, even if it would be nice to get some payback. Besides, Riza— Lieutenant Hawkeye, that is —would undoubtedly lecture him about responsibility and slacking off… again.

He didn’t really feel up to dealing with that, or the kid’s wrath today.

Luckily, Roy was saved from his boredom and growing irritation at his most determined yet most vexing subordinate by the phone ringing.

He opened his mouth to answer it with a smirk on his lips, which died when he realized that he automatically expected Hughes’ cheery voice to be the one that answered him, gushing about his lovely wife and adorable daughter.

Roy took a deep breath, feeling suddenly as if a heavy weight rested on his lungs. He hoped it would be the Lieutenant on the phone.

No such luck.

“Yes?” Roy said into the receiver, feeling no need for pleasantries anymore.

There was a moment of silence, and Roy heard what sounded like someone trying to catch their breath on the other line. Then—

“Colonel?”

As much as he hated to admit it, the voice of the young alchemist actually did put him in a better mood. He really had gone soft, huh? “Ah, Fullmetal! Finally decided to call in, have you? You’re already over fifteen minutes late, even worse than last—”

“Colonel.”

The Elric brothers interrupted him all the time, but the urgency in the kid’s voice was definitely new. He sounded… scared? When was the last time he’d heard either of them sound like that?

Roy was instantly on alert. “What’s wrong? What happened?”

The kid huffed a short laugh. “You’re gonna hate this,” he muttered. “I know I do. I’m… I think I might need your help.”
