someone give me dark!blackinnon pls
okay so…
queen charlotte = tragic blackinnon backstory
bridgerton = marauders supporting harry’s first season where ginny is presented to society
and meanwhile in the back of my mind marlene mckinnon has been seen leaving the stables early in the morning wearing men’s clothing (how scandalous!)
back to regular business.
not gonna lie, i’ve been spending quite a lot of time this morning trying to emulate lady whistledown’s voice in my head to see if i manage to come up with something
but also i think it would be fun for a bridgerton au where marauders are adults and they’re guiding the new generations through the season. maybe it’s me just wanting for jily to meet ginny though (blackinnon could be turn into something more like queen charlotte, which i’m still not over it)
also, sirius is now known in my head as: most notorious rebel, so thanks anon!
remus lupin is the type of teacher to say "i'll wait." and then just stare at the class till everyone shuts up.
day 27 - you don’t understand - blackinnon - @blackinnonfest
“it’s not that simple,” said marlene.
they weren’t exactly fighting, but it felt strangely similar.
“i don’t get it. a few months ago you weren’t speaking to me cause you thought i was taking you for granted, that i was using you somehow, while i thought we were on the same fucking boat, mind you.” sirius paused, taking a second to compose himself before continuing. “so we talked through it and fixed things or so i thought, cause how in the hell are we in the same situation again, marls?” he wasn’t exactly desperate, but exasperated more like.
marlene could barely stand to watch him in the eyes, so she was grateful they were on the move again.
“it’s not the same, not at all” she replied.
“no, you’re right. you’re right it’s not. it’s worse. cause this time i know you want to be with me much as i want to be with you and yet you flinch every time i breath near you.” sirius was on the edge of screaming, but they weren’t supposed to be making any noise, trying to sneak back into the gryffindor tower before a prefect caught them.
“i told you, it’s not that easy” she repeated for the tenth time that day, trying to keep up with his longer strides.
“you haven’t told me shit, mckinnon. why do you resist taking the easy way into this?” finally, sirius had stopped and turned to look at her.
and again, marlene wanted nothing more than to look at anything but him.
because how could she explained to him that she was terrified. frightened. even more so than the time she had finally explained to him why she felt so hurt last time he had ditched her for some other girl while expecting her to be there once he got bore.
that being a teenage witch was an entirely different thing than being a teenage wizard. and that there were layers to it as well, because sirius black wasn’t just any wizard, even if he was, according to the one and only howler walburga had ever sent him last year, the disgrace of the family.
sirius wasn’t free of them, not really. marlene had the suspicion that still, everything he did or didn’t do was a statement back to his family, whether it was on purpose or not. he couldn’t help being who he was much more than she could blame herself for falling for him.
because she had fallen for that stupid, smug faced moron. yes, moron. not that insulting him on her mind and frequently to his face had made much for her.
she had still being stupid enough to fall for the boy.
and worse than loving him? was the fact that for whatever reason, he loved her back. well, liked her back at least. enough so that he had been pushing for them to go public, to stop with all the secrecy and running around.
but she couldn’t, it scared her too much.
“are you…?” started sirius, taking a breath in. “are you done with me?” he finally asked.
marlene couldn’t be sure with all the darkness around them, but there was something akin to hurt in sirius’ eyes.
“what?” marlene mouth opened in surprise at the question, the implications of it.
“seems to me the only logical explanation”
“no, that’s not… i told you, it’s not—“
“that simple, yes, i’ve heard.” frustrated this time, sirius passed a hand through his face. they were near the entrance to the tower now. “i’ll make it easier for you then” he said and marlene knew before he said it where this was gonna end up.
she braced herself for it, cause really, what else could she do?
sirius took a while longer before speaking, as if expecting her to say or do something to stop him, but nothing came.
“alright then, we’re finish. i’m finish” and after that, he turn around, gave the password to the fat lady and marlene saw him disappear behind the portrait.
she felt her heart clenched in her chest, her whole body going cold.
trying to console herself over the fact that, at least, they wouldn’t have to explain anything to their friends, she followed him into the tower only to fall apart once she reached her bed.
who would’ve bet that she would’ve been the one to fucked it all up.
He and Uncle Padfoot were inseparable.
no thoughts just shirtless sirius black with a small constellation of tattoos all over his chest and arms with a scotch in hand.
some blackinnon headcanons
- they don’t use terms of endearment on each other. i believe sirius use them in a sardonic way, like if he calls you “darling” you are in trouble for sure. for marls, she’s the type to call little kids “sweetheart” when they come up to her with their troubles.
- sirius call her mckinnon most of the time in front of others o public situations and marlene/marls in private o delicate situations. for marlene is sirius most of the time, unless she’s trying to make a point, then she calls him black.
- marlene is not as confident as sirius but knows how to play at her strengths. quidditch it’s a big thing for her during school, but later on it’s also incantations so she is very good at certain types of magic. she’s particularly good at conjuring shielding charms. i like to think of it as a projection of her own heart.
- that last one also plays a part when sirius thinks of her after finding out she died. he can’t help but think if it were any other curse but the killing one, she might’ve survived.
- in general, marls has a bit of trouble with defense magic. she can protect and deflect easily, but attacks are more difficult for her. it’s not until she’s confronted with DE attacking people in front of her that she gets better at it. she’s better at doing things for others than herself in that sense (then again, marlene might’ve died protecting her parents or brothers).
- sirius is good at everything as we know, he’s annoying like that.
- marlene is really tall for a girl, almost the same height as most boys which is annoying cause she likes taller guys. enters: sirius black, annoyingly tall for everyone except for marlene.
- marlene doesn’t looks like it, but sirius is often times amaze at how strong she is. she doesn’t hold back either, how else could she be a good beater otherwise? also, has impecable aim.
- marlene gets better at healing charms, potentially even considering becoming a healer. not because she wants to, but because someone has to. it also has to do with the fact that sirius doesn’t particularly care for his own injuries, doesn’t seem to grasp the concept of being unable to defend anyone properly unless he’s in top shape. honestly marls doesn’t care either, so sirius has to learn a few charms to heal her too in the end. it’s the only way they allow for it to happen, by way of taking care of each other.
- sirius was the first to realize they were something worthwhile. he’s not really the type of guy to pour his heart out, but at some point he does ‘cause his running out of ways of showing marlene he’s not going anywhere. probably the most frightening thing he ever did in that regard.
- marlene is not exactly the prettiest girl in school, but she’s the type of girl annoyingly label as “one of the guys” except said guys actually wants to go out with her. it’s more her vibe than anything else.
- visually they are the complete opposite: dark/light hair/eyes, sharp/soft features (i have a whole stupid canon of the blacks actually being black that could also work here, but i’ll keep it that way for now) also marlene hair is long when sirius is short and vice verse.
- marls doesn’t like to read much and sirius doesn’t nap often, but on the rare occasions that happens, sirius lays on her chest and marls read above his head.
- they both get kinda lost without a sense of purpose so whenever they feel the other may be as risk of spiraling, they come up with crazy plans or invent something they need the help of the other. they know is a lie, but play along anyway. it helps.
Sorry I'm still obsessed with Sirius being the mature friend of the group. The "you guys don't understand the extent some of these supremacists will go!" guy. And also the, "Stop drinking like you're a teenager. Drink like civilized people!" guy. All of this is to James and Lily who are throwing themselves thoughtlessly into battle and then getting absolutely hammered on the expensive booze Sirius shares with them.
It's advice that James and Lily take very seriously. The next time they see him, they admit that he's right and tell him they're going to have a baby.
And Sirius is like "THAT IS NOT WHAT I MEANT."
james potter ran out to pull severus snape from the shrieking shack with one tought in mind: remus lupin.
because he didn’t believe remus should be held accountable for what might happen if he is too late to protect him but it’s fully aware that he will be.
“Never saw one without the other, did you? The number of times I had them in here – ooh, they used to make me laugh. Quite the double act, Sirius Black and James Potter!”

shut up you can’t hate me, i’m like gossip girl: your one and only (not anymore) source of angsty blackinnon.
a blackinnon story told in reverse: from the heart achingly lost of her life to the very beginning when they started to fell in love.
bonus points if near her death they closer to breaking up o they were already apart.
