HOSAB SPOILERS !!!
Type: Lucien Vanserra x Reader.
Fandom: A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Warnings: None, it's just fluff.
Authors Note: I think I've never written something for Lucien and I love him so much so here's something fluff for my baby. It was a request but the person said they didn't want the ask to be addressed, so, I hope they see this :(( I took so long to do BUT IT'S HERE.
"Can I braid your hair?" Y/N said guilty filing her guts.
It was her fault they argued, her fault because she couldn't keep her damn mouth closed. Lucien had nothing to do with her angriness, nothing to do with anything consuming in her life, but still, she'd thrown it at him.
If the gorgeous male fae on the other side of the bedroom was caught by surprise by the sudden request he didn't make it seem. His steps hushed towards you, and he sat down in front of you, letting out a sigh that seemed to be held for centuries.
The house was empty, just the two of them filling it with their angry words, now silent because of the sudden stop. Not a single soul spoke anything while Y/N's fingers traced Lucien's hair first brushing it and then grabbing two little pieces to make a crown of braids.
She wet her lips, trying to find the right words to say, but she hasn't learned how to apologize, not when she was raised to be rude and strong, someone who won't say sorry, and won't accept it either.
When her fingers stopped and grabbed an elastic to hold the braid still he was about to go but then she laced her arms around his neck and put her face on it, inhaling his scent.
"I'm sorry," her voice barely heard. "I didn't want to fight with you, I was mad, Azriel pissed me off on today's training and I just threw it all on you and-"
She almost said it. Love. For a brief minute, she thought it would slip right out of her mouth and confess her killing feelings for him. It was wrong, she was dirty, he was a completely different person who deserved something much better than her.
"It's ok, my love, I shouldn't have pushed you to this. It's not your fault, not completely." Lucien tried to give her a soft smile but it just looked sad. Yes, it made more damage than he was telling.
"No, it's not ok. Listen, I was the one pushing you, I love you and I don't want us to be like this. I promised myself not to do it again, never throw things at you like you don't have feelings. I know it hurt you more than you're letting me see, and I'm really, truly and completely sorry for-" He cut her with his lips.
She breathed hard, getting caught by surprise with the sudden kiss, but then melt in his mouth faster than she should.
His hand was at the side of her face, cupping it, never letting her go when he broke the contact of their lips. "What did you say, love?"
"You didn't let me finish, I was saying that I'm truly-" Another kiss that pissed her off. "Please, this is harder than you think and I'm finally having the courage to-"
"Before all the things I don't need to hear because of course I forgive you, you said something. What was it?" His bright smile made her blush.
She didn't know what he was talking about, didn't even remember all the things she said, it was in a hush. But then, then it came to her realization that she said the words she didn't mean to. Didn't mean to throw in a moment like this. A sigh left her lips before she hide her face between her hands.
"I told you I love you," she didn't want to see the disgust on his face, not when she knew he wouldn't want to be loved by someone like her.
"Good God, I'd burn this world for you," then a follow of your name. "Now, I'm going to kiss you, and you're going to say it again and again. I've waited so many years to hear this from you."
He took her hands out of her face and kissed her rough and sweet if it's possible. But, actually, everything is possible to Lucien Vanserra.
“Don't waste your time obsessing over the dumb attitudes of dumb people.”
The Deal - Elle Kennedy
I'm definitely biased, because she's my favorite character, but after rereading House of Sky and Breath, I think that Hypaxia Enador, queen of the Valbaran witches, is going to have a big role to play in CC3.
First, aside from Aidas and maybe Jesiba, Hypaxia is the only character who can provide insight on what life was like before the Asteri, including what used to happen to the dead:
"Your tutors predate the Asteri's arrival?" Hypaxia narrowed her eyes in warning for Bryce to keep her voice down. "Yes. They were already long dead when the Northern Rift opened." "They remember a time before the Asteri -- when Parthos still stood?" Bryce ventured. "Yes. One of my tutors, Palania, taught mathematics and science at its academy. She was born in the city surrounding it, and died there, too. So did generations of her family." "The Asteri don't like people talking about these things. That humans accomplished so much before their arrival." "They are classic conquerers." Hypaxia gazed toward the Bone Quarter. "They have conquered even death in this world. Spirits that once rested peacefully are now herded into these...zones." (HOSAB, 599)
Hypaxia has lived in isolation and relative freedom, and so she's only had to gain kinds of information. Like many of the characters in Crescent City, she has not been forced to choose between close allegiance to the Asteri and the Ophion rebels. This means that while she can gain certain information, or potentially offer it, she hasn't yet had the opportunity.
Throughout House of Sky and Breath, Ruhn and Bryce both wonder if Hypaxia might be a rebel. Bryce even envisions her as a potential force against the Asteri in the event of her own death (778).
Though she's stood up to the Asteri, particularly when she removes Hunt's tattoo, we have no evidence that Hypaxia is currently a rebel (even if I'm personally hoping that's the case). In fact, given her position with her coven, and her relationship with Celestina, it's likely that Hypaxia has chosen to go along with the current way of things in exchange for relative peace and comfort.
However, I suspect that this will change in CC3 for three reasons:
Hypaxia is likely going to find out that Celestina betrayed Hunt, leading to his enslavement. She is too aware, in my opinion, to continue to choose her relationship over a status quo that actively harms her friends. This is going to be a compelling emotional arc that forces Hypaxia to navigate between love and duty and dreams. Also, I am ready for a sapphic romance between two women of color -- SJM, it's about time, so please make this great.
The Asteri are likely going to be shoring up their allegiances, which will lead Hypaxia to a show-down with her coven, who want a closer alliance with the Asteri (599). Now that she knows even more about the cost of the Asteri's rule, and its impact on her personally, it is likelier than ever that Hypaxia will move against them.
The dead are going to have a big role to play in the next book, as a source of wisdom and potentially as an army. As of now, Hypaxia is the only person we know who can contact them. (Sidenote: I know that Nesta has the Mask that can raise the dead, but since there's a character in Crescent City who can do it, I'm assuming that Hypaxia will be more involved in this series.)
Now, we know that necromancers are highly regulated (456), and Hypaxia has more reasons than most, like care for her peoples' lives, to stay inside of those regulations. But the Asteri clearly have some concerns about these powers.
Because, let's not forget this key point: Enadors, including Hypaxia, can raise the dead (568). We know that Bryce and company need armies. What if Hypaxia is able to raise the people of Parthos to come to her aid? What if she was able to provide an army greater than what even her fellow witches could provide?
I suspect that these developments will make Hypaxia, with her self-assurance and her quiet courage and her deep knowledge, into a central figure in the growing rebellion in Midgard. I think that they draw her into a closer orbit with Lidia, and to the restoration of their world.
But if for whatever reason, Hypaxia instead follows a path similar to Celestina's, choosing love and comfort over the larger cause, this is also a fascinating story. I think the latter option is unlikely based on what's been set up so far, not to mention the fact that this arc is too similar to Celestina's, but I do think it's worth noting that either path is compelling. This is a signal that a character has a lot of potential.
We haven't seen a lot of Hypaxia in Crescent City, and I wonder if this is because she's already so uniquely self-assured and competent that she would steal the show. However, I think SJM has been quietly setting up her story, giving her emotional stakes, important choices, and key powers that will put the witch-queen in the center of the action in CC3. I, for one, absolutely cannot wait.
"The frigid water hit Sofie like a bomb blast, and then the lead at her feet grabbed all that she was and might have been, and pulled her under"
First of all....fuck you
"I was hoping to find a way to spend my life with her."
Second of all...FUCK YOU
My stupid ass: I won't have my heart torn to pieces by Bryce and Danika's friendship in this book.
Sarah:
"The sorceress said a shade gently, “You won’t find any traces of Danika left in the Bone Quarter, you know.”"
Me:🤡
"“And yet your father is allowed to stay in power?”
“Yeah. Aren’t all of these assholes allowed to stay in power? Who’s going to stop them?”
“Us. People like us. One day.”
Lidia Cervos everybody, the MVP, the Dreamer born in a Court (Or perhaps house is more appropriate) of fucking Nightmares.
“You’re the first person I’ve spoken to normally in … a very long time.”
“How long?”
“So long that I think I’ve forgotten what it feels like to be myself. I think I’ve lost my true self entirely. To destroy monsters, we become monsters. Isn’t that what they say?”
And thus I pledge my undying love to this fucking ship that wrecked me.
“They’re not worth my anger. I have to keep remembering that.”
Life lessons from Juniper everybody. You tell them girl, you tell them.
It might have been the worst lie she’d ever told, because as Ithan left, he looked like he actually believed her.
What number if this? Oh yeah...seventh of all FUCK YOUUU
“I’m sorry if I gave you false hope.”
“It kept her alive in my heart a little longer.”
When I tell you I fucking died....I. FUCKING. DIED. I was fucking sobbing. Thanks Sarah! THANKS GIRL. Once again making me care for the secondary ships and then destroy the shit out of them.
Ruhn drifted, quiet and calm. When was the last time anyone had told him a story to lull him to sleep?
This quote that just SCREAMS lost innocence. GODS.
Ps: Ruhn is my favourite fucking character, and I want the head of the bartard he has for a father on a fucking spike for all the shit my baby had to go through.
Ithan’s mouth dried out. What would he even say to Connor? I love you would likely be the first. I miss you every minute of every damn day would be the second.
Somebody just give Ithan a fucking hug. His grief and guilt messed me the fuck up throughout the book. Also the accuracy of this quote just had me sobbing at 4 in the morning. FUCK.
But a Fae Queen had loved a demon prince. And he had loved her enough to …
To lose a fucking war because of she died. AND THUS I STARTED CARING FOR AIDAS AND THEIA AS WELL. FUCK. ME.
And here comes the good stuff.....
Baxian peeled back the collar of his battle-suit, revealing brown, muscled flesh. And a tattoo scrawled over the angel’s heart in familiar handwriting.
Through love, all is possible.
She knew that handwriting. “Why,” she asked carefully, voice shaking, “do you have Danika’s handwriting tattooed on you?”
Baxian’s dark eyes became pained. Empty. “Because Danika was my mate.”
I SCREAMED. I SOBBED. I THREW MY PHONE TO THE FUCKING WALL.
MY FUCKING SOUL WAS RIPPED TO FUCKING PIECES.
GODDDDS!
I actually feel like I manifested this ship, because I was like...HUH He's a shady motherfucker, he and Danika would be lit together...such a shame. AND THEN THIS FUCKING CHAPETR CAME AND I. FUCKING. DIED.
I can't even describe how much I ship this. The fact that its canon is the joy of my life and the fact that she is fucking dead is the bane of my existence.
Baxian:
“I loved her. More than anything.”
Me:
OH GOD PLEASE NOOOO
Danika’s mate still loved her.
SOMEBODY PLEASE STOP THIS TORTURE FOR FUCK'S SAKE
“You return to me.”
“I return to you.” He spoke in a voice that was and wasn’t his own. Some small part of him screamed.
THARION BABY NOOOOOO
“You fear him.” Something primal stirred in Ruhn.
“Yes. His wrath is terrible. I’ve seen what he does to enemies. I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.”
“Can’t you leave him?”
She laughed, harsh and hollow. “No. My fate is bound to his.”
“Your fate is bound to mine.” The words echoed into the darkness.
AND THUS MY SHIP SAILED AND TOOK MY FUCKING HEART WITH IT
“I’m going to find you,” he said against her burning hair. “I’ll find you one day, I promise.”
When I tell you this is my favourite ship in the series I fucking mean it.
His love transformed her back into a witch, melting away all that she’d become. They dwelled in peace in the forest for the rest of their immortal lives.
The whole story ruined me, but the end....oooh the end left me sobbing.
He was fairly certain his soul lay in splinters around them.
Mine too Ruhn baby...mine too.
But … I know how it feels to wake up one day and wonder how you got so far from that carefree person you were.
This broke me because I can relate to my fucking core. I kinda think that all of us can actually. So yeah...cheers to that 🍻
Tharion knew that tone. Knew that look. And it was then that he understood.
Cormac hadn’t just gone rogue. He’d never intended to get out of here alive.
Which makes the whole conversation with Ruhn ALL THE MORE HEARTBREAKING.
At least he is with Sofie now ....
He dove deep, into the place where he’d always run to avoid his father’s ministrations.
SOMEBODY KILL THE FUCKING KING OF AUTUMN RIGHT FUCKING NOW. I MEAN IT.
His ally was his enemy. His enemy was his lover.
And I will go down with thiiis ship...
Lidia had so much blood on her hands that there would never be any washing it away.
I only had her for half a book but if anybody touches her I will riot.
Ruhn looked at his sister and said softly, “You brought so much joy into my life, Bryce.”
And there goes what was left of my fucking heart.
“I love you. I wish I’d said it more. But I love you, Quinlan, and …” His throat closed up, his eyes stinging. His lips brushed her brow. “Our love is stronger than time, greater than any distance. Our love spans across stars and worlds. I will find you again. I promise.”
DEAD. GONE. IN FUCKING PIECES.
AND THUS ALL MY DAMN SHIPS SUNK AND WENT TO FUCKING HEL. THANKS SARAH. SEE YOU IN A YEAR.
Accurate image of me after hosab:
Listen…it was one thing that Rowan and Aelin were able to read each other’s thoughts so well…it was another that Rhys and Feyre could actually speak to each other in their minds…but how in the flying fuck are Ruhn and Day having sex rn when they are in their mental world place??💀😭
✨ some of MY OPINIONS on HOSAB ✨
SPOILERS AHEAD
• First of all, there’s just WAYYY too much going on. It felt a little too ambitious at times. too many plots, subplots and characters
• Bryce isn’t particularly likeable to me, she feels arrogant, selfish and refuses to take criticism or advice from others even when it’s valid. It’s her way or the high way. She’ll decide to do something and nothing anyone else says will sway her opinion, even when it’s clear to others and to the reader it’s a bad decision
• The others thinking Bryce could rule the fae at this point doesn’t make sense. She has no royal or strategic training, doesn’t think plans through, makes decisions mainly based on what she wants and the only moments I could see her fully taking charge was when the others compared her to her father. Someone who she claims she’s nothing alike/ wants nothing to do with yet uses his name and position to get her way, and cry’s ignorance once she has to deal with the consequences for her actions. She could get there someday, but I don’t think she’s ready for that comparison yet
• Cormac was a completely wasted character, he had so much potential and was just used by the others at every turn yet none of them really helped him. Bryce in particular messed him over
• Ruhn had the most growth in this book. He felt the most rounded out as the book progressed and his character was very endearing
• The Hind has become one of the most interesting characters now. No questions please.
• Bryce had no right hiding Emile from Cormac. That decision in the longterm is probably the right decision but Cormac, as Sofie’s partner, as someone Sofie died entrusting Emile to his care, had every right to at least meet with him once to check on him, tell him stories of Sofie and make sure he’d be cared and loved for before they took him away
• Danika began to feel like a tool to progress the plot or reveal information. It became almost a running joke for me while reading. The constant reveals about her past felt very heavy handed and it made it seem like Danika and Bryce where only surface level friends. They clearly loved each-other, but what did Bryce really know about her that others didn’t?!
• Ithan being in love with Bryce was a useless plot point. It didn’t need to happen, it has no impact on the story at all other than to make us and some characters feel sorry for him. He has so many other interesting plot points and characteristics and I think it would have been much more interesting to focus on his feelings of isolation after being cut off from the pack, and his brothers death, than it did for him to keep feeling bad about being in love with Bryce. Them having a more sibling esc relationship like they did in the first book makes much more sense
• A lot of the villains felt like the same person with a different appearance. Like okay it’s a war, there’s going to be bad people, but a lot of them, mostly the triarii, felt like Maas said ‘copy and paste’.
• I can’t even begin to describe my frustration with Tharion’s character. He was good for comic relief and I like him, but he had many outs he could have taken to leave the Blue court earlier, but ended up putting himself in an arguably worse of situation by the end of the book. His excuse of not wanting to leave his parents ended up being useless because he did it anyway
• Otters in vests… otters in vests!
• I did like how Maas showed the fanaticism on both sides of the war. With the humans and Vanir. It showed how at this point, there’d be no winners to the war and that everyone would loose either way
• The relationship between Bryce and Hunt felt unbalanced to me. It felt as though Hunt was constantly sacrificing, giving up and ignoring his own feelings and thoughts about things to go along with what Bryce wanted and what she decided was the right thing to do. Bryce didn’t seem to really take his advice or opinion into consideration when making plans, and I felt like there was a distance between them because of this. Again, they clearly love each other. But a lot of things Hunt said to her, concerns he bought up, went ignored. And him having self doubt when Bryce went behind his back to arrange the Emile situation, really hurt, because eventually he would have come around and wanted to help her but instead he felt ostracised.
• The constant calling men ‘Alphaholes’ when they voiced their opinion, acted a little defensive of those they cared about or said anything against the female opinion felt like forced feminism. It really said gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss.
• Based on the cliffhangers I’m nervous with the direction Maas’ work is going to take. I love her books sm but if she try’s to bring even more characters/ plots into Crescent City’s, I think it’ll become to much/ too overwhelming. And there’ll begin to be more plots left unfinished or bought to unsatisfying conclusions.
i have many more opinions these are just some of the main things i had issue with, it does feel a bit like a fu to Bryce, but I really had issues with her in this book :(
I’m back again 😈😈

Do we want more??
Lidia Cervos deserves the world and I will not elaborate
Actually, yes I will
(Huge spoilers ahead. Don’t read until you’ve finished HOSAB. Also, there are spoilers in the tags)
When Lidia was still Day and I read this, two things happened. First, the thought that Day = Lidia crossed my mind because of her thing with Pollux. And two, assuming that she was indeed Lidia, my heart fucking shattered because it meant that the poor woman had been putting up with a disgusting asswhole for the sake of learning information and passing it along for the greater good. And I was right.
This is just so fucking sad. Lidia had to picture Ruhn every time she slept with Pollux because she had no other way to endure it. Yes, their sex was consensual, but to a higher more spiritual level it didn’t feel like it. My heart completely broke for her at this and I’m so happy she’s got someone as caring as Ruhn in her life now. This whole scene was so bittersweet and Ruhn was the most attentive lover.
What Ruhn says here basically confirms what I thought—Lidia put herself through all of that for the bigger cause. I’m convinced that story she told Ruhn about the witch turned monster was in fact about herself. As Day, she kept telling him how she felt authentic with him and how he reminded her that there was good in the world. This is how that story ended:
And lastly, I’m 100% sure we’ll get a scene in the next book with either Lidia or Ruhn (or both) beating the shit out of Pollux like he deserves. That’d be super hot ngl.
I wanted to put this out there because I’m sure we’ll eventually get the usual “but Lidia is evil!1!” comments and I just needed to remind you that Lidia is a victim. Just like Hunt did questionable things when he answered to others, so did Lidia. Y’all aren’t about to vilify women for the same stuff men do, and when they do it they’re just “misunderstood” and they’re considered “hot morally-grey characters”. Not on my watch.
Plus in Sarah’s most recent live, she talked about how she loves writing those morally-grey characters. She says there are good people, like Hunt, who are forced to do terrible things and live with the consequences, but they’re not villains.
I’m confident this is the case with Lidia, so protect her at all costs 🗣🗣🗣
