At times, Silas found himself seaside listening to the waves crashing right below his feet. Sketchbook in hand with a large bag of different artists’ tools depending on his mood, drawing anything that interested him or came into his mind. Sometimes it was the water itself, other times it was the various faces that could be found making their way across the gulf’s drift wood and pieces of shells. It was a chance to get away from his shop and find new inspiration in the people that called Corinth their home, along with the many visitors that appreciated its allure. That was when he appeared— hair catching light giving it hints of crimson and gold within its darkness. The cubi began to sketch, entranced by his presence as charcoal hues glanced up and back down to keep capturing him naturally. A tool he often used when evading the North Korean army during the war, attempting to draw without the individual even realizing that Silas was just feet away the entire time. Though he supposed those within the army were simply humans, not full of glistening magic like the man whose eyes zeroed in on him.

@silaskyun location: knick knack

It wasn’t really like Celie to go to gift shops, but this one seemed to cute to pass up. She had been trying to scope out every store in the city just to see what she could learn from being there. The little bell on the door rang as Celie stepped in, and she gave the owner a little wave. There was nothing right off the bat, but there was always time to learn. As the hunter toured the small room, she couldn’t help but smile. “This place is really cute.”

The storefront hadn’t been open for too long, so it was always a surprise whenever someone actually decided to mosey in. It gave Silas the chance to show off local artists and hopefully get a few other pieces out the door with the interactions. Trinkets, masks, custom furniture littered every inch of the shop, yet all had its own unique location. Micro-environments set up to give a different feel depending on the spot stood in and nothing seemed too lost in the madness. Some days he would take out pieces and re-display them later in the season if he noticed there weren’t any bites, a fun habit Silas started when the thought of eternity really set in. “I appreciate it,” a small grin and delicate head nod as arms found a home on the counter-top, “and so do the other artists.”

Every so often he found himself in the small shop surrounded by things he definitely should not fill his London flat with at the expense of looking like a tourist. Shelves were already lined with trinkets from here or there. Sometimes it a souvenir wasn’t something that he could buy, a rock off the ground from a particularly beautiful mountain, a flower from the edge of a lush forest. Hell, Leighton had leaves pressed between pages with their name, location, and the date he’d found them, meticulously scrawled beside them. Everything was an attempt to capture the feeling of a moment in a place as he desperately sought to document the abundance of time on his hands.

Silas had made this more than just a place for tourists though. Local art pieces hung among the knick knacks, pieces of furniture finely crafted, a couple of oddities from the beaches here and there. “I’m trying to decide if I do indeed need another teapot or if I should just surrender and buy a proper cabinet to display them all in.” He took a sip of the tea in the thermos in his hand and nodded to the shelf. “The kittens might be too whimsical to pass up.”

Leighton had become something of a regular at Knick Knack and the pattern seemed to form in the blink of an eye. Sometimes the vampire would mosey in with general conviction, knowing exactly what he wanted as if the moment depended on it. Other times his shoulders looked slunk and caused Silas to wonder if the shop was just another way to pass the time. Not as if that was a horrible thing in the young cubi’s mind, the gods knew that was why he continued to do it. Trinkets, the little things, and all those varying purchases could be used as a way to connect and remember when time was the enemy. His own studio could be found with different objects littered about that helped keep his mind sharp and attached to the memories most important to Silas.

“You could finally accept my offer to build you one,” the cubi joked, but half hoped Leighton would actually say the word. He had several different concepts that he kept on the side, unable to control himself after the vampire had first mentioned it. Cabinets was almost a specialty at this point, having designed many during his time in Korea and felt a bit eager to craft another. Especially for someone like Leighton and the unique way he decorated his loft back home, “And take the whimsical kittens.”

      Noah had seen a ghost. Alright, so it wasn’t a ghost – it was just a man who looked a lot like his father from afar, and nothing like him up close. It had still shaken up Noah’s mind, that was already fragile enough lately, and caused him to search shelter through the next door he could find. Only when he had pushed the door shut with a loud banging sound did he realize he had invaded someone’s shop, and was staring right at the owner’s face, his own pale and frightened. “I’m so sorry.” The moment he realized how abnormal he had been behaving, he transformed his face into a smile. “I just – I thought I saw someone outside and then…” A weak laugh escaped him, and he shook his head as he ran a hand through his hair. “My mind’s playing tricks on me. I didn’t mean to ruin your door.” And he really hoped he hadn’t.

Noahkramer‌:

“Nothing I can’t fix,” tinges of surprise still hung in his voice, though the cubi’s expression remained calm as he looked over the stranger. Odd things had always happened around Silas and the shops he had managed to own over the years, so a terrified person running in was truly nothing new. War had allowed him to see more than what he wanted to be familiar with though the cubi knew that he was better off for it. The more Silas knew, the better when it came to life. Growing knowledge about the emerald scale, along with Eidolons vanishing from the streets, Silas was more paranoid than usual but he swallowed it. He moved casually towards him to glance over the door, jiggling the handle once he arrived and shrugged, “Seems fine.” But he couldn’t stop thinking about who— more like what, was outside that caused him to flee in the first place. Charcoal hues peeking outside the pathways to see if anything would come of it, but all he could see were faces of employees happy they were relieved of their evening duties.

“Would you believe me if I said that’s precisely what I wanted to hear today?” He plays coy with the true reason behind his visit for only a moment longer before settling into natural charm, slightly disconcerted that the other man held a vastly greater allure without actually trying. “White, medium sized, and in an ornate metal holder. The wax has an intricate carving on one side. Does any of that sound familiar?” Fingers brushed at the crux of his neck, an uncharacteristic turmoil overtaking in that moment. As much as Giovanni intended to use Silas for his own knowledge, there came something rather striking about the other man and almost… trustworthy. The sensation struck him as both odd and comforting in the same breath. “If someone wished to pawn it, I thought you might be their first stop.”

image

Of course it sounded familiar, though Silas was having a hard time actually allowing those words to come out of his mouth. He hadn’t had the chance to really look into it, seeing as it had only been a few days of it being in his possession, and the idea of simply handing it over to Giovanni without a second thought seemed foolish. The incubus knew better than that. Trust was something that came later, with time, and the man that stood before him hadn’t been granted that level as far as Silas was concerned. Stalling, however, wasn’t exactly possible at this moment. What did the cubi care anyway? He had already had his fill of dabbling with cursed objects and the goal had to be who was going to be his highest bidder, “Yeah I’ve got a couple that might fit that description in the back— hadn’t gotten around to placing them out on display yet. Just let me bring them up.”

“What on earth is this meant to be?” The woman held a particular trinket aloft, dubious of its use or even worth as she scoured Knick Knack in a mild effort to entertain herself. Most of the various items were a far cry from revolutionary to Ana, however she did glean some semblance of amusement from antagonizing the store owner… Regardless of how alluring he might appear. Hues skirted along the notepad lying open at the front counter, her prior item laid beside it as she observed the drawings. “He sketches. Is this a quirky little past time or should I be searching for your name in the newspaper comics?” @silaskyun

“Both,” the cubi quickly replied, not looking up as the brunette continued to look around the shop. He was used to this kind of behavior from Ana when she came in, not all objects appealing to the vampire and finding many of them worth mocking. Silas honestly didn’t mind. Not all of his knacks were meant for all tastes and his years of hardship had given him especially thick skin. “I’ve done this as a quirk and for money in newspapers, even some political comics if the money was right.” A statement that held a lot of truth, although he wasn’t sure if anyone could actually find his works anymore. War and time had destroyed a lot of things from his past, some was still probably sitting in an artifact collection back in Korea just collecting dust.

“Silas?”

Nora stepped into the silent, warm interior of Knick Knack, and though the bell on the door announced her arrival, she called for him for good measure, just to be sure. She stepped around the shop, bag over her shoulder and a small stack of business cards in her hand, finally halting at a dining set she’d made a month ago. Much to her delight, a neat handwritten card sat atop it with the single word sold written across it. She’d done matching scrolling carving on the legs of each of the chairs as well as the table, and the table itself could expand to fit more people than just four. About then she heard soft footsteps heading towards her from elsewhere in the shop, and she turned to grin at whom she assumed was Silas himself.

“It sold!” she chirped happily. “That’s wonderful!” Momentarily, the few smaller objects to hand over to him and the additional business cards were forgotten in favor of celebrating the sale of something she’d spent absolute ages on–it was nice to know someone else liked her work as much as she enjoyed making it. @silaskyun

Ding, ding.

The cubi’s heart leapt at the sound of the chime, hyper focused on the object glistening in his hand and notes strewn about. Ever since he had woken up with the scale and no memory of the day before, everything about him didn’t make sense. It was as if the core of his personality shifted slightly and he couldn’t keep his hands off the scale. Currently it was snug inside his pocket, the same one his hand gently slid into as he made his way to the front of his store. Silas’ saving grace was the familiarity of the voice, but it could also be a downfall. Ones that knew him best might notice the behavior shift and his need to understand why he had the scale in the first place, but he hoped Nora would be a good escape. He left his notebook open, still on the day that he had written the events that he no longer could bring back to the forefront.

“To a lovely couple that just moved in together,” a broad smile on his face, welcoming the wolf’s excitement and leaned casually on his front counter, “Asked if you could also do a few other personal pieces to match, if you are up for it.” Which he had assumed Nora would be, already giving the couple reassurance that it could be done. “A lot of people had been eyeing it, but these two seem as though they will cherish it. They both seemed tired of the same old Ikea look and your work is one of a kind, truly meant to be heirloom pieces.”

@silaskyun

Diana’s quest had been a success. That’s what her mother, Anastasia had told her, that’s what the coven celebrated. They did not count the lives that were lost, just the threat that had been subdued before it could ever reach the shores of Corinth Bay. A man who would have stood against the Delphi, quelled by the eldest heir of Vidalis. That was what the coven saw, not the brother that Diana had slain, he was a man she’d never known, yet had been somehow connected to him all her life. It was a surreal feeling to find herself back in Corinth Bay, two years had passed but Diana could scarcely consider herself the woman that she had been before she left.

Before Diana had left she’d attempted to help Silas track down his own sister, before Diana had boarded her vessel and took off in search of the brother of her own. Whatever forces obscured her magic were evident of someone who did not want to be found, but Diana had been able to tell Silas that his sister, Ri, was in Greece, at least. She’d told him then that supernaturals were drawn to Corinth Bay, and if he was patient, she was certain that the two of them would find each other again.

Diana stepped foot into his shop and was impressed with the life that Silas had established for himself, but she wasn’t here as a patron, more as an old friend. “Silas,” Diana greeted, a smile drew across her lips as her grey eyes met that of the incubus, she’d never had reason to fear them. Kasandra and Gabriel both were friends of the Delphi, and Diana knew well what it meant to merely be trying to survive this world. At least now she did. She wanted to embrace him, but it had been years now. “I thought maybe your sister would be here with you by now, I guess that red string is a long one.”

image

The work had been more than exhausting over all these years, but there wasn’t an inch in Silas that would say his sister wasn’t worth it. Many had tried and failed, depleting every option that they could which only lead him so far. At the time, the Japanese government was ruthless and tried to divert eyes away from their wicked intentions. But even throughout them trying to destroy all evidence of this, pieces still remained and stories got passed down. The main issue was tracing certain things back directly to Ri-na and even with the help of outside mystics, it was difficult to find exacts on where she was or ended up. While his heart continued to tell him that she was out there alive, somewhere as something, hope was difficult to keep attached to it when the traces of her seemed to keep running cold.

He pinned it on her ability to cover her tracks— permanent death was not an option in his mind. They had always been linked together and if he was still some form of alive, then she was too. He knew that deep down in his bones. That’s why he sought out Atlas Rose, why he asked for help from Diana Vidalis. Rumored to be some of the most powerful witches and part of an elite coven, all qualities that Silas couldn’t pass up when it came to requesting aid in his search. The Vidalis coven had more than delivered, able to guide him towards confirmation and information about her existence in Greece. Maybe that’s why he also had a calling for the bay during his travels throughout the European countries. Ri-na had to have felt the same calling without being aware of the reasons why.

Bell ringing lightly from the front of the shop, the incubus emerged from the back room to find the familiar face of Diana and gave her a homely expression. “Diana, it’s so good to see you again,” a truly genuine tone as he approached the counter, “Rumor is that she is in Corinth proper now, should be soon. It’s still a mystery what all she has been through and it’s really no wonder it took so long for me to even piece this much together.” Maybe he could get assistance on another tracking spell, a powerful one that could be localized, but Silas was still learning what all witches were actually capable of and felt a bit foolish asking.
