Selling jewelry had never been Lena’s original intent when she started to make things as a child. It was a way to hone her metal manipulation abilities without drawing too much attention to herself, and making tiny, intricate pieces of jewelry served well as lessons in control. The keen edge of a sword was easy enough to accomplish, but focusing and moving metal in her hand to form thread-fine filigree required the utmost of skill. She and Silas came to a mutual agreement that she could sell a few pieces at his shop, and Lena was delighted by the prospect.

Throughout the past few weeks, she’d seen a decline in the man’s demeanor, dipping from his usual cheerful ease to someone weighed down by something she couldn’t quite put her finger on, but it most clearly manifested as exhaustion. She couldn’t help but worry about him, particularly when in his presence, and she very nearly asked about him instead of answering the question at hand. “I um… yes, that sounds really good,” she said, flashing him a brief, bright smile before her attention turned to the contents of her purse. She pulled a thick velvet bag from it and pulled at the drawstring, then carefully dumped a handful of rings and one necklace into her hand. “I think window light will be really good for them,” she added as she grabbed the pendant of the necklace, which was a piece of solid metal shaped into a paper crane. The crisp lines and perfect, flat planes caught the light even though she didn’t stand under a direct light, a testament to her ability. For a moment, silence lingered and Lena worried her lip, then finally heaved a heavy sigh and shifted her weight uncomfortably. “Are you okay? You seem. You’ve seemed different. Are you sure it’s okay I’m here right now? I can definitely come back.”

The usual excitement for doing business with a local artist was still there, even if the fatigue was present in some of his expressions and he did his best to shroud it in smiles. Lena was a regular around the shop, even without her pieces being present within, and the guilt of worrying anyone about his scale relations was not something the incubus really wished to discuss. Not that he was particularly ashamed of the whole ordeal taking him over, just that he desperately wanted to move on and not dwell too much on his past mishaps. It kept him from healing and Silas needed every bit of it he could muster up at this point. But the care in her voice and concern that hung onto her expression stopped him from ignoring the questions. He had been reminded that friends were important after keeping the curse’s stronghold away from even Gabriel’s knowledge and it was foolish to push people away that just wanted to help. Don’t run, embrace.

“Just been under the weather,” he stated, charcoal hues meeting the witches before looking back down at her handcrafted jewelry with admiration, “I had to close the shop up for about a week just to get some rest, but I’m starting to recover. The worst is over now. Just uh— just been needing a lot more sleep than I anticipated, but don’t worry. Having the shop open for a little while is helping get me back on a schedule.” So maybe keeping some things from Lena about the scale wasn’t all that bad, though he was being truthful about being unwell for a time. “No need to come back,” he added to give her verification and hopefully ease the worry of needing to leave, “I was rather looking forward to seeing and hearing about what you have been up to.”

Life with the jade and emerald tinted object had been torturous, yet Silas couldn’t manage to let it go. A week had gone by with him knowing there was something wrong with it, some curse that had been placed, and the cubi still couldn’t manage to keep his fingers from glazing over its sheen. Studying its ridges as it played with the dim lights inside the back of his shop. Even started carrying it around, terrified that someone else might take it. He continually told himself that if it wasn’t him taking the burden on, that it would be someone else but Silas knew it was just an act to keep it close to himself. Anyone that caught eye of the scale immediately induced panic within his being, so his pant pocket was the only logical place for it to stay until he understood more. It wasn’t as if he knew its origins completely, just some various lore from the library and anything Kasandra could explain given her similar condition. Sleep had been replaced with nightmares and late-night walks, muse for anything artistic all but lost when the hour was so late that he felt his shop walls closing in on him. That’s precisely where the cubi was now, feet patting up and down the sidewalks of town with eye bags that could be seen from at least a block away. ‘This cannot last,’ bubbled in his thoughts as the silhouette of a public bench came near and he instinctively headed towards it, ‘Go-saeng kkeut-e nag-i on-da*.’

She looked over the prints that Silas held. Her gaze focused intensely on the image to try and ignore her father’s eidolon standing behind her. He spoke in rapid German like Eden’s snake. She shook her blonde head + swallowed. “Sehr schön.” Very beautiful. She looked up and made eye contact with the eidolon. Her eyes darted back to Silas. “My uncle’s place hs very bare walls. How much for the lot?” A shakey smile cracked on her pale lips. She left the house today in such a hurry she forgot the paint her lips with her signature color, crimson red.

“Thirty for the small prints and forty-five for the larger,” watching her eyes as they darted around the room, knowing she was acknowledging the creatures that wanted nothing more than everyone to suffer. For the most part, the cubi had been ignoring them and tried to keep his attention on his old friend. Especially when his obsession and paranoia was tied fiercely to the emerald scale that Silas kept safely in his pocket, “And I’m sure I’ve got some frames in the back that would fit. No charge, of course. They are practically free at every sale, some even from other prints that didn’t really go with them.”

💐 from @franciscoamore give a gift During the days that the cubi was still living in Korea, every inch of his human-ness still intact, Silas had grown used to getting various gifts from friends to help supply the family shop. Not all was a gift. Some being a this for that, but often they would find something that caught their eye and reminded them of the Kyun’s. That dwindled down over the years as close ties became more rare and interactions depended on the type of supernatural being. It felt more dangerous than ever to have too many connections, especially with what he was and always did his best to keep his personal life to himself. Not that Silas was anti-social by any means, just able to carry on conversations without letting too much slip out. “How did you manage to snag this?” the cubi stated, excitement fluttering in the shadows of his voice. For most it was just a decorated tea bowl, but for Silas this was a connection to his home and the dynasty that his family used to serve. Fingers grazed the rim before picking it up completely, flipping it over to reveal the signature of his great-grandfather, “Thank you again, this is really special.”

“What caught your eye?” a silky voice echoed from behind what used to be a perfectly fine desk. Now, just a few years after being taken in by its new owner, it has been littered with paint that managed to miss the objects it was meant for. Various papers, works in progress, and tools littered any other free space much like the shop itself. Brightly colored masks hung above him, furniture with large yellow price tags that seconded as shelving for other pieces— unique objects with every turn that many came to gawk as if it were a museum. Silas had only owned the shop for a few years, but business was starting to get pretty regular through word of mouth. Advertising by featuring local artists and that in turn had really boosted his foot traffic. A broad smile followed with surprisingly warm eyes, hardly the look of someone blemished for eternity. He set down his pen and moved closer to the entrance.

These days it was rare that Kiera even had enough time to visit any shop that wasn’t her own tiny restaurant. But she had almost forgotten that it was her aunt’s birthday this weekend, and that she needed a gift. Luckily for her, her aunt wasn’t very picky, and for some weird reason entirely enamored with masks – and she knew where to get one, thanks to the fact that it wasn’t the first one she wanted to gift her. Eyes traveling over the masks on the wall, she shrugged her shoulders as the question was placed. “I’m not sure yet.” Her fingers were itching to just snap and get the masks from the wall herself, but instead she pointed to two of the colorful ones. “Could I take a closer look at those? I need a gift for my aunt.”

Grabbing the step ladder from behind the counter, Silas napped it open and proceeded to get the masks down. It was always an interesting experience working in the shop. Meeting all kinds of different styles of people and having a small peek into how they live. Individuals that found masks fascinating were more rare as he stepped out Korea, people finding them creepy or not wanting to feel as though the eyes followed them. Others, like many inside Greece, found them to be part of normal life. Performance tools that many used in theatrical performances, much like his own culture history and loved that he could use his talents again. Silas snagged the two and slowly came back down, placing them both in front of the woman, “We also offer gift boxes to fit the mask, along with wrapping paper to fit the occasion.”

Alexandros + Poseidon

Alexandros: Have there ever been repercussions to your actions you regret?I absolutely regret not fighting for my sister, Ri-na. Not being able to protect her when she needed it the most and not fighting with the Japanese for taking her. I can only imagine what her fate turned out to be and I should have been right there with her. Most might expect it to be my transition, but I know I still would have done it all over again.

Poseidon: Have you ever been so consumed in a task that you lost the reasoning behind it?Often with my art, yes. Wondering if each of these pieces actually make a difference or if I’m just unable to completely let go of the past. Yet— well, I guess I still create so not all is lost.

noraxzhao‌:

Every year, Nora intended to dress up for the carnivale, but every year she always showed up like this, in an outfit befitting the weather but otherwise not remotely on-theme as far as the locals were concerned. It didn’t matter, though–she spent the evening with her wife and a steady stream of alcohol that allowed her to maintain a pleasant buzz. And after a few tumultuous weeks, something fun and normal was definitely in order to blow off a little steam.

“Hi,” she said brightly, then shook Silas’s hand with the one not currently holding a half-full pint of beer. As he lowered the mask, the smile faltered as concern immediately settled in its place. “I– yes, a lot–” She waved off the question about booths and the event itself. “Are you doing okay?”

There was nothing okay with the cubi besides the excitement he felt seeing his work dancing around the festivities on the rare occasion. Swarms of people were in attendance, making it hard to see every piece that was touched by his hand, but when the moment did occur— warmed filled him and for a moment Silas forgot the pure exhaustion that held onto him so firmly. “Yeah, yeah. Just been so busy with the shop, hard to sleep lately,” a bit of a white lie and it was misery inducing to do that to someone like Nora. She had been nothing but a good friend over the span of being in Corinth Bay, especially when it came to helping with the curated items in the shop. That was part of the reasons the cubi had a permanent area to feature her work, along with just being a good soul through and through, “I’m sure after a few drinks while watching the parade will have me falling asleep like a baby.” Or at least he hoped, sporting a friendly grin as he flagged down a woman carrying various wine’s in plastic cups.

beau-zale‌:

Under those eyebags was probably a beautiful man who worked at the establishment, but at the moment he looked worse for wear than a lot of the souls he dragged around. Current events had really done a number on these people. Beau had to keep from clicking his tongue at the waste. Humming in thought, black lined eyes still looking around the place, he let out a soft “ah” at the sight of the display cabinet. “That, looking for that.” Flicking a black painted nail in the direction of the case, he strode towards it, immediately leaned down to peer at what it had to offer. “You get shit from all the old ass haunted houses, I imagine?” It wasn’t so much a question as it was just musing out loud as he eyed a few rings cushioned in the velvet tray.  Witch’s biting it and leaving behind whole jewelry boxes worth of treasures, that’s what he was in for.

image

“Mhm.”

Followed by a gentle head nod as he leaned against the shop counter, looking towards the direction of the man and the item he was pointing out, “Or new generations that find the item outdated and don’t understand it’s value.” Though, abandoned or condemned houses were kind of a hot spot for the incubus and the random treasures they could hold. Jewelry was particularly an easy sell, but a difficult find. Fake’s were all over the place and usually took a careful eye, a quality that had taken years for Silas to acquire but it was in the Kyun blood. Each piece within Knick Knack was handpicked, restored, and always of the highest grade. “Spessartine garnet, darkest red and extremely rare. I believe that one came out of a basement in Ostrava? —Kraków maybe? I spent a little time on the border and often forget, but I have the paperwork for authentication purposes,” tone a bit rough, followed by a tired grin as he grabbed for the keys to the cabinet and strode over to get the piece out.
