I think the really insidious part of the whole "I don't need to forgive the people who hurt me" attitude that's so prominant nowadays, is that it perpetuates the cycle of abuse.
Not every person who does bad things has a tragedy fueling their behavior. But a lot of them do. You can be a victim and also an abuser. Those are not mutually exclusive things. In fact, one of the best ways to become an abuser is to take the pain of the injustice you've experienced and to let it fester inside you. And that is what happens if you don't forgive.
And before anyone tries to tell me that you can't forgive someone because that means letting them to continue hurting you. That's not what forgiveness is. Resuming a relationship with someone who hurt you is Reconciling. Forgiveness is when you choose to let go of the anger and the hate and the bitterness and heal. I know this is an honest misunderstanding, but it's a dangerous one.
You don't have to remain a victim in order to forgive. But if you do not forgive you will become the same as your abuser. That's not a risk, but a fact. The cycle of abuse can be broken but you have to choose to do it.
You have to choose to heal. You owe it others and to yourself.
*timidly raises hand* I know that Susebron is almost always drawn as a black man in the fandom here, and I love all the art! I just wanted you guys to remember not to accuse people of white washing if they don’t draw him that way, because he’s actually described as being pale with black hair in the book.
No context but I came across this image while doing homework
what the HECK is Oreo pie??
It occurs to me I have been meaning to put this recipe out for awhile and didn’t, so here it is:
I don't have measurements for this. I've been making it so long I just sort of eyeball based on how many people I'm feeding. Usually, a whole thing of Oreos and most of a bag of marshmallows goes into the filling.
Mega- or Most-Stuf Oreos (don’t skimp on these; you need the filling)
Regular Oreos or Oreo Thins
Marshmallows (mini melt faster)
Heavy cream
Oreo pie crust (chocolate will do in a pinch)
Separate Mega/Most-Stuf cream from the cookies into a saucepan. Set the cookies aside in a large Ziploc
Dump marshmallows and cream into the saucepan. LESS IS MORE with the cream. You can always add as needed. Too little, however, and the pie will turn into tar.
Turn the heat on low and stir, stir, stir until all the marshmallows are melted. Don’t stop stirring or the mixture will burn.
Let the filling set in the fridge for a few hours. If you’re pressed for time you can let it set in the freezer BUT watch carefully to make sure it doesn't freeze.
When the filling is set, crush the leftover Oreo cookies in the bag and add them to the mix. Don't be shy. Aim for the filling to be gray rather than black and white. Break a few regular Oreos into quarters and throw in for extra crunch.
OPTIONAL: Depending on what texture you want, whip a cup of heavy cream and add to the filling. This makes it lighter, but you can leave it out if you want a denser filling.
Pour into Oreo pie crust and garnish with whipped cream and yet more Oreos. Or just serve it out of the bowl. I call this iteration "Thundercloud Pudding."
This will keep in the fridge for weeks since there's nothing organic in it to spoil, but the cookies lose their crunch after a couple of days.
Note: Gluten-free friends rejoice as you can make this with GF Oreos. You will need A LOT OF THEM as even the Double-Stuf GF do not have as much cream as regular Double-Stuf.
@chaotic-pulsar
@rainintheevening @novelmonger @sergeanttomycaptain @mrtobenamedlater you may now sing my praises
In response to this dreadful break, I would like to submit reasonable explanations for eyepatch!Brainy's eyepatch. (Aside from, of course, the generic "injury in battle.")
The result of accepting a dare from Alex in a drunken Superfriends game of Truth or Dare.
Testing out a couple's Halloween costume idea with Nia
Hiding the results of Winn getting him with the classic eyepiece prank until he could wash it off.
Trying to cheer up Kara with wholehearted participation in "Talk Like a Pirate" day.
Testing out some piece of tech he designed to augment J'onn's abilities.
His way of making clear that he is ignoring whatever poor agent sits beside him at the DEO.
The best part about getting married is that I am not sharing my best self with someone; I am sharing my whole self. So I told him I had diarrhea and I tell him I think my classroom management would go a lot better if I could (playfully, carefully) pick them up by their ankles. I love him fiercely and despise those that don't, and my heart gets all gooey just looking at him. When I'm sad a lifetime of relaxation and coping methods are now useless compared to him just holding me.
Building a relationship of mutual love, trust, reliance, and commitment is dope.
Have you ever thought of writing your own supergirl related fanfics/stories?
Oof, I tried once. Opened a doc and everything.
I psyched myself out, trying to write something as good as the fics I had read, and didn't exactly get very far. I know it isn't reasonable for a first-time fic writer to compare herself to veterans or expect excellence from inexperience, and yet I did.
Thanks for asking!
(If I ever do write something you'll be the first to know)
"I mean I COULD write the fics I’ve been secretly hoping other people would. Maybe I will. You’ll see. One day and then you’ll ALL be sorry.
So will I. We’ll all be sorry." ~ My not only incomplete but not-even-started fic, Nov 11th, 2021.
Peak cinema!
