from an out of universe perspective obviously the reason Palpatine refers to Luke as 'the offspring of Anakin Skywalker' is bcos the surprise needs to be preserved for the audience. but from an in-universe perspective it's indicative of the fact that he genuinely believes Anakin is dead. he straight up expects Darth Vader not to consider Luke to be his own son - which as we see later in the film is emphatically not the case lmao

If Obi-Wan had actually stayed on Mandalore with Satine after the Civil War and left the Jedi Order, it would've made The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones peak comedy.

Like, Qui-Gon would still be sent to Naboo and end up on Tatooine, he'd still meet Anakin and take him back to the Temple. But, in this AU, he survives the battle on Theed and takes Anakin as his padawan. And the entire Order would be making jokes:

"Congrats on the new padawan! Hope he sticks around longer than the last one!" "We'll keep this one off the bodyguard missions, eh Qui-Gon?"

So one day little Anakin’s like "hey master, what happened to your last padawan?" And Qui-Gon's like "oh he ran off with a girl, yeah he's royalty in the Outer Rim now".

And it's all fine and dandy until Anakin’s nineteen and they get assigned to protect Padmé, and Qui-Gon takes one look at this kid's face and thinks "You've got to be fucking kidding me, this shit again??"

gotta love Luke & Lando's first meeting. they just have 0 context for each other

Lando knows Luke is the guy Vader was hunting down in an insanely intense way and has probably figured that he's a really big deal in the rebellion but otherwise knows nothing about him? and then when they actually cross paths Luke is clutching onto the underside of Cloud City for dear life in a place where it makes NO sense for a person to be. & then he's just like the world's most beat up kid visibly teetering on the brink of mental collapse??

meanwhile from Luke's perspective he's just hanging on for dear life, probably not sure that Leia even heard his call for help, and then this handsome stranger comes to rescue him? and he's gotta be like hey. who are you and what the fuck have you done with Han.

anyway then both of them are like 'yeah this might as well happen.'

u know i think ppl in the star wars fandom are guilty of conflating events together sometimes. let's not forget that not only did Darth Vader not blow up Alderaan (that was Tarkin) it's pretty clear that he didn't approve of blowing up Alderaan.

I think it would be reasonable for Luke to hold Darth Vader responsible for Owen and Beru's deaths. Like iirc the stormtroopers were acting on his orders?

Anyway I'm imagining Luke throwing 'you killed my Aunt and Uncle' at Vader pre ESB and Vader being like '....I killed WHO? What? Did I kill one of Padme's sisters and forget about it? What??'

My favorite thing about The Mandalorian is the implication that Yoda spent like a century toddling about in the Temple, squealing delightedly at everything while Masters ran after to him to keep him from eating spiders and bugs from the gardens. 

(At some point everyone probably forgot he was supposed to grow up one day and he was just the Order’s baby for a hundred years or so.)

The biggest break-up in Star Wars was between R2-D2 and Anakin. Like full on we are never, ever, ever getting back together level break-up.

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT LEIA’S STORY IN VADER DOWN AND THE STRUGGLE SHE FACES HERE. That she hates Vader so much she’s willing to die to take him out.  She is so full of fury and rage at him that she was ready to leave Luke to die because this was her chance to take Vader out.  She was absolutely willing to sacrifice herself to kill him.  But, when the moment came, Han begging her not to choose Vader over them, she chose to save her friends. I love this so much because it’s such a complicated thing.  Ultimately, she made the right choice, because we know the narrative needs these characters to defeat the ultimate evil of Sidious, but there’s a lot to be said for Leia’s feelings here–if they had been able to take Vader out in this moment, well, we the audience know that he’s the one who will kill Sidious, we the audience know that it’s Luke’s struggle and finally his victory at throwing away his anger and his weapon that inspires Anakin to come back, but Leia has no way of knowing that. Her rage at Vader clouds her vision, she becomes willing to make sacrifices that go against the whole entire reason they’re fighting, but, if you changed the circumstances slightly, would she have been right?  If this could have turned the tide of the war, if this could have stopped Vader, would she have been right? The problem is that she wasn’t just doing it because it was the right thing to do, because she wanted to help other people–but because she hated him.  Because he stood there while Alderaan was destroyed and that’s just one of his terrible crimes, crimes he could well go on to do more of–and clearly would, like on Bespin–and she wanted him dead, far beyond justice for what he’d done, she wanted him fucking dead. One of the best things the comics are doing is, despite that they don’t interact much in the movies, there’s still room for Leia and Vader to have a relationship at a distance, that she uses him as a motivation to keep getting up, to refuse to die on Hoth when she’s out exploring and gets trapped under an avalanche (in the Forces of Destiny comic), how she furiously wants Han to use the walker to stomp on Vader on Cymoon 1, how she’s willing to die in Vader Down to take him out. Her relationship with Vader is not the same as Luke’s relationship with him, hers burns so much more furiously and it is painful to watch at times.  AND I LOVE THAT SO MUCH because women being complicated and messy and burning with their fury, to the point it’s poisoning them, and yet their story is still worth telling, that they are engaging for this, is so good.  In the end, she makes the choice to save her friends over taking Vader out (whatever that means for the future people he’ll continue to hurt) and it’s the right choice, but it burns and it’s a hell of a struggle and nothing about her rage has been put to rest. GIVE ME ALL OF LEIA ORGANA’S RELATIONSHIP WITH VADER AND HER STORY ABOUT WHAT SHE DOES WITH IT.

There's a lot of good and bad that came out of Disney taking charge of Star Wars but their complete deletion of Mara Jade Skywalker from canon is something I can never forgive. Emperors indentured assassin-cum-Jedi Master and wife and equal to Luke, all while rocking a purple lightsaber and shiny threads - whats not to love 💜
