More Terrible, Deeply Triggering News From Chechnya In Russia: Reports Indicate That Gay Men Are Not

Chechnya is holding gay men in concentration camps
Gay men are being held in “camps” in the Chechen Republic where they are subjected to torture and beatings, human rights campaigners have claimed.

More terrible, deeply triggering news from Chechnya in Russia: Reports indicate that gay men are not only being abducted, but held in concentration camps, where they are being tortured and a few have been killed.

The claims follow reports last week that 100 gay men had been rounded up and imprisoned in Chechnya, with at least three people allegedly murdered. The allegations were made by a Russian newspaper and human rights campaigners. “In Chechnya, the command was given for a ‘prophylactic sweep’ and it went as far as real murders,” independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta claimed. […]

Speaking to the MailOnline, Svetlana Zakharova from the Russian LGBT network, said:  “Gay people have been detained and rounded up and we are working to evacuate people from the camps and some have now left the region.

“Those who have escaped said they are detained in the same room and people are kept altogether, around 30 or 40. They are tortured with electric currents and heavily beaten, sometimes to death.”

I don’t have words. Amnesty International is circulating a petition seeking justice. Hold these people in your hearts. Truly, I’m speechless.

okay I know you wrote this a year ago but, Steve DID become captain America because of Bucky. he became cap only when he saved the 107th and the reason he wanted to save the 107th is because he knew Bucky was in there. like I totally agree on not defining Steve or Bucky solely on each other, but facts are facts and Steve picking up the shield of Cap happened because he wanted to save Bucky

Look, you must know how much I adore Bucky if you’ve come at me on anon with this because you probably have seen at least a few *cough* posts on my blog about Bucky, but I’ll never see them in the (usually shippy) light of ‘they only ever do anything because of each other uwu” that a big majority of this fandom is so stuck on. (Whoa, what?? Cairi’s not in lockstep with a fandom??? So shocking.) Steve didn’t even know Bucky needed saving when he went through the serum experiment–he just wanted to join the Army despite Bucky, because it was the right thing to do and because his father died on the front lines. He too wanted to fight on the front lines and not do the little red wagon thing Bucky preferred him to do, both because of his father’s legacy and because he always had a fiesty fighting spirit twelve thousand times stronger than his frail li’l bod and so yeah, he may have been from Brooklyn but he lived in the state of Total Stubborn Denial.

But he finally found a crack in the 4F wall the Army erected in front of him and Steve became Captain America the moment he stepped out of that machine and had to chase after the HYDRA assassin. He became Captain America even before that when he threw himself on the dummy grenade and Bucky wasn’t even there. And when Phillips all but said he’d written the letter saying Bucky was KIA, Steve still wanted to save the rest of the 107th. So *maybe* we can at least agree that the Army didn’t recognize him as a combat-ready Captain America until he saved the 107th (and yay bonus Bucky was alive so he got saved too, because yes, Steve had to make sure, since he was already there rescuing the 107th). But to his own mind, far before that moment, Steve was already combat-ready and fully Captain America in the way that Dr. Erskine and Peggy intended for him to be… a fighting soldier, not just a dancing monkey in tights.

Steve has always been focused on what, to his mind, is the right thing to do… sometimes that involves Bucky and sometimes it doesn’t.

On Sharon Carter

First of all, ugh. Second, whyyyyyyy?

I am a huge fan of strong women being portrayed strong and independent in movies. Seriously, we need more of those women. What I absolutely hate is people believing a woman has to be a perfect know-it-all in order to be strong. Just, no. In writing, mainly fanfiction, this is called a “Mary Sue”. For those who don’t know, a Mary Sue is a character that is perfect. She knows everything, can do everything, is super brave and loved and wanted by literally everyone.

Now, the reason I’m putting this first is that so far I feel like Sharon Carter is going to be a Mary Sue. Not in the actual sense of course, because in fanfiction a Mary Sue is most of the time the author in a much more perfected version, but in a larger, a little modified sense.

Sharon’s been bugging me since her very first appearance in Return Of The First Avenger which is fascinating since she has really little screentime. So allow me to explain myself a little further.

As of now what we’ve seen of Sharon is:

her being super nice

apparently Nat approving of her since when on the Lemurian Star she asks Steve if maybe he wants to ask out the nurse who lives across the hall from him and at the end of the movie she asks Steve to call her because “she’s nice” (and honestly Nat is not exactly the person to approve of people easily)

her being super brave since she speaks up against Sitwell and demands to know why S.H.I.E.L.D. should be hunting Steve and later on she stands up against Brock Rumlow to stop the launch of the Helicarriers

her being a perfect shot when she practices shooting at the CIA shooting range

I know she didn’t have much screentime yet but everything we’ve seen so far puts her into a pretty perfect light. I’m also taking the one short moment from Civil War we’ve already seen into consideration where she apparently goes up against Bucky which is something no person in their right mind would do because HIGHLY TRAINED AND PROFESSIONAL KILLER.

This is a no-no in my eyes. It couldn’t have been that hard to just have her keep her mouth shut when Sitwell demands S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to hunt Captain America. It also wouldn’t have killed anyone to have her miss a few shots on that shooting range, she’s no Hawkeye after all.

As of now, she just seems too perfect in my eyes. I am of course always up for being proven wrong but everything just looks a little to peachy at the moment. A character with flaws who actually can’t do whatever he wants and get it right at the first try is much more interesting.

Something I’m also having a problem with: they seem to try to turn her into another Black Widow. Outfit-wise. When I looked at those new promo pictures I had to take a second look to realises I wasn’t looking at two Black Widows but in fact Natasha and Sharon. It looks a little like they took Nat’s outfit and photoshopped Sharon’s head on it. No. Just no. That’s not how we do it. If you want Sharon to be a super badass and respectable character make her a unique on and don’t copy something that’s already there.

But major difference character-wise: Nat has flaws. She struggles. Things go wrong for her. She has a heart-wrenching past, that thing with Bruce didn’t work out entirely as planned. She’s stubborn. She makes mistake. As far as we know Sharon is pretty perfect overall. Badass fighter, brave woman, she gets Captain America (come on, we can still turn this around and pretend it won’t and never will be a thing… please). Seems pretty great to me. But this is a character I don’t want to see. I want and need characters I can identify with, not a perfect Miss Plastic.

One more thing about this matter and then I shut up: Steve doesn’t need a love interest. Honestly. In my eyes it would be amazing to let a character like Steve Rogers stay single. For one because he doesn’t need it. Second, it would be amazingly representative. There are so many young people out there who still believe they need to be in a relationship to be happy or have some kind of worth. Seeing a man like Captain freaking America not be in a relationship would be incredibly reassuring and soothing.

I mean, just think about it. That man looks like a god and has a great personality (though even Captain America has his flaws). Everyone would expect him to be in a relationship. So take the chance, surprise everyone and let him stay single. Because yes, he’s basically perfect but that doesn’t mean everyone will immediately fall into his arms.

Okay, I think I’m done now. I’ll make an additional post if more comes to mind.

STOP Slandering Steve Rogers

#1: He was NEVER “willing to burn the world down/ let the world burn for Bucky Barnes.”

Show me one place when that was ever canon.

In CA:TFA - he wanted to wipe out Hydra after Bucky fell from the train. Sure, good for him, Hydra was unspeakably evil organization. What good person didn’t want to wipe out Hydra??

In CA:TWS Steve was prepared to do whatever it took to stop the launch of those helicarriers - up to and including BREAKING Bucky’s arm. He didn’t stop fighting Bucky until everyone but him (Steve) was safe.

In CA:CW he objected to and refused to sign the Accords BEFORE Bucky was even mentioned. It had NOTHING to do with Bucky. Steve was going to bring Bucky in when he thought he might have had something to do with the bombing. He refused to sign the Accords even when Bucky’s welfare was dangled in front of him. Steve only ran off with Bucky when it became clear there was no getting a fair shake from Ross et al. He gave up the shield for himself - okay, his motive may be open to interpretation but it’s certainly not equivalent to letting the rest of the world burn.

In the Prelude to Infinity War comics, while Bucky’s healing in Wakanda Steve and Sam and Nat are busy hunting down rogue Chitauri weapons - sure seems like he’s not willing to let the world burn down if he can help it.

#2: Someone who would be “willing to let the would burn” for their loved one is not a hero, they’re not even a good person; that is supervillain territory. That is Kingpin/Wilson Fisk or Darth Vader - not Captain America.

And lastly thinking that being willing to sacrifice everything in the world is a sign of love is seriously effed up. Really - if you think that would be somehow romantic or admirable - get help.

It’s such a simple letter I’m amazed at the lack of comprehension from people. But really. Some think that it’s very selfish letter (whatever that means), some think that he blames Tony for everything in this letter or trying to make him feel guilty (???) and some even think that “Steve begs Tony to take him back” (wtf?). I have actually seen all those versions on tumblr and ao3.

STEVE ROGERS’ LETTER TO TONY STARK WAS IN NO WAY SELF SERVING.

At this point I don’t think Steven needs an introduction — or wouldn’t, were it not for the fact that he’s now Doctor Steven Attewell, and we all know how that title can change a man. — SEK A while ago, I came across an argument on Tumblr over whether “modern approaches to writing steve …

Some time ago I quite unexpectedly became fond of this superhero. I started researching and this post was one of the first things I’ve read about Steve. He is one of those people (real and fictional) who inspired me to try to change things around me and be more outspoken.

And this analysis is such a good introduction to nuances of Cap’s cbs historical context. Especially for us foreigners

I agree. That’s exactly right. You can’t dismiss some character’s pain and trauma to ennoble your favorite. IMO its disgusting. But come on, Tony’s fans do it all the time! If it angers you all so much then stop doing it to other characters. Many times I’ve seen these completely dismissive posts about Steve, Natasha, Wanda, Bruce, etc and for some reason nobody reminded authors about human decency. I think it should be applied to every character not only Tony

I don't get why you baby Stark so much. So his father neglected him? He was too busy to tuck him in or hug him? Yeah that's shitty as fuck but Howard loved him in his own way. Clint Barton, abused by his own parents and then abused in the circus before left for dead. Steve Rogers, bullied and beaten his entire life pre serum, sick constantly and only family his best friend who he LOST. Natasha, I don't think I need to elaborate on her past.. Wanda&Pietro, fuck of their story isn't awful.

Wow.

So by your line of reasoning, only the Avenger who had the worst childhood is worthy of love and/or respect. I guess that means Bucky isn’t worthy, since his childhood was the best out of all of everyone. But no - in your eyes, Tony is the only one whose abuse can be excused.

Well let me tell you something, anon. I am fucking appalled by the fact that you are literally excusing child abuse by saying that “his father loved him in his own way,“. As if that makes it okay. There is no excuse for child abuse. Ever. Period. It doesn’t matter if it’s emotional neglect or physical abuse or whatever, there. is. no. excuse.

In addition, abuse, especially child abuse, is not a competition and I can’t even put into words how upset it makes me that you’re implying that Tony is not worthy of being “babied” just because you think his abuse wasn’t as bad as the rest of the team. As though there is some sort of ruler by which we measure abuse, and Tony isn’t making the cut.

Finally, I’m gonna let you in on a secret. Fandom is a place where everyone gets to like whoever they want to like. I will “baby” Tony as much as I damn well want to, and you can fuck right off.

i want that hug in mcu. No. I desperately need it

mcu: if we make steve and tony hug or even touch, don’t you think it will, idk, distract from their massive masculinity and testosterone-fueled feud that we pulled out of our asses???? let’s not get crazy here

aa: OK SO STEVE IS LITERALLY GOING TO SWEEP TONY INTO HIS ARMS, INHALE THE SWEET SCENT OF HIM, AND TWIRL HIM AROUND WITH A SMILE THAT COULD ELIMINATE ALL VILLAINOUS FORCES ON BATTLEWORLD
