Introducing an updated illustrated poster featuring all the tigers of the world! While it was once believed that there were nine subspecies of tigers, recent scientific research has shown that there are actually only two: those that live on the continent and those that reside on islands. However, within these two subspecies, there are various populations of tigers that were previously classified as distinct subspecies. Creating this poster was a labor of love that required a significant amount of time and effort. Some of the animals featured on the poster were particularly challenging to illustrate due to their extinction, which meant there was limited photographic evidence available to use as a reference. I am thrilled with the final product and hope that others will appreciate the attention to detail and care that went into each illustration. Przewalski's Horse Equus ferus przewalskii Family: Equidae Genus: Equus Subspecies: 03 Feed: Herbivorous Habitat: Temperate Steppe Status and Conservation: Critically Endangered This is the only remaining species of wild horse. The other two wild horse species have already become extinct. One of them is the Tarpan (which was mentioned in a previous post), and the other is the European Wild Horse, which went extinct during the Pleistocene era. The other horses that roam in the wild are considered feral, which means they were once domesticated horses that have reverted to a wild state.

The Przewalski Horse was also extinct in the wild at one point. However, thanks to various breeding programs and the efforts of different zoos, it has been successfully reintroduced to its natural habitat in Mongolia and China. North American Cougar Puma concolor couguar Family: Felidae Genus: Puma Conservation Status: Least Concern This feline stands out as one of the world's most versatile adaptors, thriving across diverse habitats in the Americas. Originally, multiple subspecies were designated due to this adaptability, but now only two remain valid: the North American and the larger South American variant.

Its fur displays variations based on habitat, becoming denser in colder regions and lighter in deserts or warmer zones. While not classified among the big cat species, it shares the closest kinship with the cheetah.

Snow Leopard Panthera uncia Family: Felidae Genus: Panthera Conservation Status: Vulnerable I really enjoyed drawing this animal and the outcome really surprised me. I think I learned how to draw felines. Is becoming easier, more enjoyable, and with better results. I feel this one looks like a photograph. Phacochoerus – Warthog

I love this ugly! Since I was a child I feel impressed by his horrendous face. Still somehow to me is beautiful. 

There are six subspecies of Warthog until now but it could be more or less depending on further studies of some of this subspecies.

Common Warthog, Nolan Warthog: Mothers they are very aggressive, they can charge at bigger predators for defending their piglets. it is very a important element of the food chain since has many predators such as humans, crocodiles, hyenas, lions, leopards and even some birds of prey.

Southern Warthog: It can be found in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe

Central African Warthog: It can be found in Kenya and Tanzania

Desert Warthog, Somali warthog: Morphological differences between Desert Warthogs and Common Warthog have been overlooked until recently, that now they can be distinguished in the wild. Desert Warthog has drooping genal warts, tips of ears that bend backwards, swollen suborbital pouches round the eyes, and a shorter basi-occipital region that makes the head look “egg-shaped”.

Cape warthog: It used to be seen in the South African region but became extinct in 1865. I couldn’t find the reasons or a better image to take as a reference.

Eritrean warthog: Can be found in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia.

The next species is the last one from this huge family and and one of the most estrange from the suidae family: The Babirusa.

Working on this one took me forever. I’m very happy with the result though because I wanted a pose that portrays the animal with majesty and power.

Bengal Tiger

If you ever saw a tiger, 90% of the chances are that you saw a Bengal Tiger. It is the most famous and probably the one that has inspired us the most. The versatility that the tiger has to propel the imagination of humans is unmeasurable. From a cruel villain to a magnificent god, its charisma and beauty have made us dream for centuries, and are now just part of the whole human culture, regardless of nationality.

It is also the popular white tiger which is nothing but a lack of melanin, the pigment in charge of giving us color. Less popular but equally magnificent and extremely rare is the golden tiger which can be seen just in captivity. A problem! if you ask me because this means that has been humanly altered genetically to get the color. There is also the black tiger, which is not completely black. Its black stripes are thicker making the orange color less visible. However, there are some reports stating that completely black tigers have been spotted in the wild. No photographs have been taken though.

Yellow-Striped Chevrotain

Not much is to say about this animal since is recognize as a species since 2005. It was thought to be the same as the Indian Chevrotain and the Sri Lankan Chevrotain. However, starting from its distinctive yellowish coloration, clued that is we were looking at a whole different species.

It is the smallest of the three species (The Indian and the Sri Lankan Chevrotains) and because it was identified as a new species very recently, little is known about it.

Nocturnal as its closest relatives, Excellent swimmers even underwater and relatively common, it seems that its existence is secure for the next few decades. Nonetheless, a small decline in their numbers has been noticed in recent years. *Photo Reference Credits: Klaus Rudloff

Rice's Whale I can proudly say this is one of the few illustrations done of this new species, the Rice's Whale. Named in 2021, It was previously thought to be a subpopulation of the Bryde's Whale until further studies proved the opposite.

The sad news is that is critically endangered and along with the vaquita, those are two of the most scarce cetaceans in the world which happened to inhabit the same environment. The causes of its decline are still unclear but are believed to be because of the industrialization of the Gulf of Mexico.

The oil spill disaster in 2010 killed nearly 20% of its population.
