Summary:
May understood that Skye wasn’t her daughter. Kind of.
Series: sunglasses, leather jackets, and laptops

May wasn’t the type to get jealous. She really wasn’t. She was the type to know her worth and her place and her standing in things. She didn’t get jealous.
But.
She’d taken care of Skye for almost seven years now. That’s got to count for something, right? Not that anything was transactional, but May had earned the right to call herself Skye’s mother. Right? Skye asked for it. She’d made that dinner, had that talk, asked that question. She wanted to call May ‘Mom’. May had said yes. She had been apprehensive, but she’d said yes.
So she was allowed to be jealous. Which she wasn’t. May wasn’t jealous that Jiaying could just waltz back into Skye’s life and just be her mother. She wasn’t jealous that Skye could just call her ‘Mom’, just like that. May knew that what Skye and Jiaying had was blood, understood that her and Skye’s bond never stood a chance against what the girl had been searching for her entire life.
She wasn’t jealous.
Except, she kind of was.
This is something more important than yourself, May reminded herself. This isn’t some petty grudge you have against some old rival. This is Skye. She deserves the best you can give. If Jiaying is what she wants, you’re going to let her go peacefully, dammit. Don’t make things harder than they already are.
May calmed herself down. This was worth the fuss, but she couldn’t be difficult. She had to be the bigger person and be good and be diplomatic, if not for anything or anyone then for Skye.
So, she said, “I hope your mother is everything you wanted her to be.”
So, she gave Skye a hug, hoping to convey everything that she couldn’t put to words.
So, she let Skye go.
Nat is injuried while she and Bruce are taking a trip. Nat sinks into a coma from her intensive injuries, and Bruce finds out that the attackers only attacked her because they couldn't hurt him.
So he's in the Waiting Room, contemplating something, when a doctor comes out and tells Bruce about Nat's condition. At the end, the doctor asks Bruce, "Should we be expecting you?"
Bruce: "What do you mean?"
And the doctor smiles sadly, "You're an Avenger. It's in the name. Besides, I have the feeling she's someone you love and when someone you love gets injured like that..." and the two of them fall silent.
So Bruce finds Yelena, tells her about Nat, and she agrees to help him. Two weeks later, no change in Nat but Bruce looks like a new man.
He systematically finds and takes down the people that attacked them, and then the organization that sent them. He left a trail behind him but he didn't really care.
The criminal underworld called him a psychopath. Others called him a vigilante. Even others just didn't say anything at all, fearing he'd hear.
In the end, when the organization was gone and they were buried, Bruce came back. Nat was awake, he had been told, and had been asking for him. He returns and she asks him, "What have you been doing?"
And Bruce just breaks. His armour, the one that had shielded him from the actuality of killing had broken and he just poured it out. Every hunt, every chase, every conclusion.
He doesn't know if she'd forgive him , or if she was angry, if she felt anything at all.
And then he feels her running her fingers through his hair and her, just her, right beside him, and he knows.
This can't ever be the same. They can't ever go back to the way it was before. He has made a name for himself, and others will come for him. It was a decision he made, he knew the price, and he was willing to pay it.
When Nat falls alseep, he writes her a note: I love you’s and I'm sorry's peppered the page until he signed his name. He places it on the bedstand, kisses her forehead and smiles, meloncholy in the lamplight.
And then he leaves.
He runs, and he runs without her.
"It is for the best.”
He says that, repeats it every time he doubts.
It is not. But it is done.

Haikyuu boy headcanons: mental health edition because it’s late and I can’t sleep
Tame ones here, TW worthy ones under the cut
Hinata— his quiet moments are always a bit off. He always wonders if he’s enough, if he can really do what he promised Kageyama. Sometimes, money’s tight. Sometimes, he doesn’t see his mom for weeks. He’s tired, but volleyball helps. And his friends.
Daichi— went through his own fair share of self esteem issues, but had good support and now dishes out wisdom like an old man and inspirational Pinterest combined.
Kageyama— pretty lonely as a kid, even with Miwa and his grandpa. Got even worse in junior high. Has his quiet moments but generally is okay when things are happening.
Iwaizumi— ignores his own health in favour of taking care of Oikawa, and learns the hard way to scale back. Hates scaling back so much that he dips back into ignoring his own mind until Oikawa becomes the one taking care of him, and then Iwa’s too scared to let himself go that far again.
Ushijima— self worth issues. Somehow both scared of failure and assured of his own victory at the same time. Enjoys self care as a routine and hates himself when he runs out of spoons to continue those routines. Doesn’t understand why he feels this way. Thinks it’s irrational.
Tendou— tries to take the “guess monster” moniker in stride and plays into it, but it still affects him. Wonders sometimes if his pride and reputation is worth it if he could just be himself with someone, truly and unabashedly. Finds comfort in being friends with Ushijima.
Semi— writes songs to process his feelings and has more often than not realized some things about himself as he writes. Performance anxiety, a bit of anger issues, mood swings.
Kita— king of self care. His routine is his all and he adjusts them when he thinks it needs changing, like how he adjusts his serving portions as he grows. Sometimes runs out of spoons but has a routine for low spoon days too.
Suga— has thought about suicide more than once, but never goes through with it. Doesn’t like the implications and doesn’t think it’s worth it. Plus, he still sort of believes in the “but you have so much to live for!” argument and also promised himself that it wouldn’t go too far.
Oikawa— once the concept of self harm was exposed to him, he’s wanted to try it. He’s a bit morbid with it. Doesn’t try anything with knives and skin but presses on his collection of never ending bruises. Hurts himself with overworking instead. Forgets to eat until Iwa reminds him.
