It seems like a lot of your characters have pointed ears/"unnatural" hair colors-- I'm assuming they're something not-quite-human, so can you explain what exactly they are/what's the deal with their race/their culture? Does your storyworld(/storyworlds) have other common races? What's up with them?
oho, two questions! All my pointy ears characters are elves from the same story of which Errikan is the main character... I've been working on a website to provide at least a bit of overview and context for them. So its a fantasy world with several races but most of my characters are elves, and they are really only elves and not human because I love drawing big pointy ears, created them way back when I discovered legend of zelda and elfquest comics about age 14. :p It was kind of a blow to learn that most elves in fantasy aren't actually as cool as those so heh, I just had to make sure mine lived up to my expectations.
The fantasy takes place on a continent called Rethamnel, the elves are the majority humanoid race, but there are also dwarves, merpeople, orcs, trolls, giants, and centaurs. I won't lie, they are mainly there because it is fun to design your own versions of fantasy races, but its not a huge aspect of plot or anything, since by the time I decided to have lots of non-elf races my main characters were already established. I worked that into my history by making them the majority, conquering, culturally imperialist race with the dominant religion, so it fits :p heh
Its Friday the Thirteenth and also my birthday and also I'm thirty. Whaaaat
dyyyyying to make this uuuuuuuugh i need a new sewing machine
I use HDR Camera+ app to tweak exposure/saturation/etc. I do actually own a real camera but lol who uses those anymore :p it kinda makes me want a camera phone with real HDR and the fancy cases that let you attach real camera lenses geez. I don’t have room to take an actual camera with me when I’m out on bsns, despite some sweet photo ops out in The Nature. To think I used to view camera phones as the silliest thing ever (I still find them silly, but let’s be honest, the thing smartphones are worst at now is actually being a phone).
Why are you not working in an art related capacity?!?!?!
I think I got this note a million years ago, but I'm gonna answer it NOW~
multiple reasons-
a- I may be slightly awesome at art but I am a hot mess in every other possible way
b- ways that affect my ability to properly network and manipulate the necessary channels to get real, regular work as an artist
c- this isn't true much but has been occassionally in the past and is currently true: I have a job where I make more money than I would drawing. And I like money. A lot. Money is awesome.
Prof. shaggyAndre LeClare, physicist. Scruff. Cowboy boots. Cajun accent. Tweaked to be a Designated Love Interest, obviously. He invented a supersciency energy conversion device that was stolen to be used for evil and Monica intercepted it and was vaporized (she got better though) BUT as you know superscience accidents totally cause superpowers.
Not honestly satisfied with this, but I go... months without drawing sometimes :c Skill plateau is depressing sometimes UM anyway. Long art backlog is long. I am happy to be able to color again, and even happier to be able to do so in the laziest way possible geez I've gotten comfortable enough drawin on this thing I haven't felt the need to plug in my tablet or nothin. So NO I didn't get off the damn couch all damn weekend.
cutting, unraveling, gluing, and brushing out yarn to make fur takes FOREVER whodathunkit.
Doodle from tiny sketchbook I keep with me at work. Still figuring out designs for supporting AEM characters... In the past I'd get a little agitated after short doodling sessions because I always immediately wanted to figure out colors but HAVEN'T THE MEANS. Problem solved! Sketchbook Mobile app is great for anytime anywhere color studyin'

Oh geez. Actual storytelling I guess. Plot? Does that count? I do ok with character motivation cos I find that fun as all get out. But when it comes to creating Interesting Times and Mysteries™ and Shocking! Plot! Twists! I get a bit frustrated. All that writer advice to write the story you want to read? Well I'm PICKY. I'm very insecure about my writing even tho 99.9% of my drawing motivation comes from it. The majority of my ideas come to me as scenes with characters interacting, and then I struggle to piece that shit together into something coherent with a minimum of plot holes and not-boring. So hard.
Hmm ok something more specific to worldbuilding is when I'm trying to do something with alternate history and I do TONS of research but can't tell at all if I've done enough. Or what details might be higher priority or more relevant? I guess I can manage to avoid some rookie mistakes, but I personally loathe Did Not Do The Research and really really, really don't want to fall into that trap myself. Then there is the tricky issue of cultural appropriation when you're working on something that's not based on your own cultural experiences. So hard.
GET IN ON THIS, IM MAKING A POSTERRRRR
✦❤✦ THE KICKSTARTER FOR AGENTS OF THE REALM HIT ITS FUNDING GOAL ✦❤✦
Gosh gosh gosh!! Thank you all SO MUCH for your support so far!! Last night the Kickstarter managed to hit it’s initial funding goal of 17K! The kickstarter campaign, however, is still running and will remain running until March 2nd so I’ve got LOTS of stuff planned for the extra funds to go towards!
Are you looking for an easy way to show your Magical Girl pride? If the Kickstarter hits 20K, I’ll be getting 1.5″ Enamel metal pins made so you can let the world know exactly how magical you are!
If the Kickstarter passes that…
Everyone who pledges in the tiers $50 and above will get a chance to upgrade in order to get their hands on limited edition prints made by these wonderful artists! I was lucky enough to get @wscottforbes, @quantumqstar and @mattahan to agree to create absolutely gorgeous artwork in honor of Agents of the Realm. I’ve been getting peaks at the works done so far and let me tell you, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on them!
From there, the funds will be going towards making the book even more shiny and magical than it already is!
Hitting 40K means everyone who pledged in $30 or above gets their softcovers upgraded to be foil embossed!! Talk about a perfectly fitting upgrade.
And the last stretch goal is a Foil Hardcover Upgrade available for everyone who pledged in tiers $50 and above!
The campaign still has 22 days left! Let’s keep this ball rolling!
