Another commision, D&D Tiefling! I was torn between overdoing the fog and... not overdoing it. Did I succeed? Psh I dunno, I like it though.
OLD PROJECT IS NEW AGAIN! A backplate and mounting plate to use for lots of different costume things. It's based on the usual idea of attaching wings to a corset, with hard Sintra mounting plate idea from a project by @paintyourdragon (of twitter, adafruit)! BACKPLATE__ Used an elastic exercise belt that I reinforced with window screen and washers for tear resistance. The belt bolts to my overdesigned pvc board back plate xD its padded with backpack spacer mesh, with pvc pipes as mounting sockets which hopefullyyyy the placement will be useful for multiple things (wings of course, gigantic Beedle backpack, Sashimono samurai flag). The plate is covered in foam, worbla, and cheap lining fabric to smooth it out, and I predrilled a BUNCH of holes marked with small washers in case i want to sew something to it or whatever. Futureproofing I GUESS. MOUNTING PLATE__ I made two of these simultaneously and used my cute and sweet and skilled bestie @maddycatcosplay as build tester, for her Pharah costume, cos I never finish things and she does xD This specific plate design was for bolting Pharah wings to (I spent 2wks building a jig to bend special aluminum brackets, so the wings would be at the proper angle, argh), as well as an easy way to attach gigantic Blizzard shoulder armor :P Another sintra plate was bolted to some bent pvc pipes and just slots in and out, I'm pretty proud of it! End Goal was simply something to wear heavy things on the back without too much strain, though obviously its still great to try and make stuff as light as possible... Hopefully some of these ideas help other people with their projects! It doesn't actually have to be this much work and detail for it to function, I just spend a lot of time and energy trying to make things as durable and comfortable as possible. A Very Important costuming soapbox issue for me, DO NOT risk injury for a costume, thanks for readingggg https://www.instagram.com/p/B-u5yQLjW09/?igshid=zw0kb3t6oi0v
Can you please have an about page somwhere? It's just that I'm nosy and I'd like to know things. For example, how old are you? Do you have a day job? Do you draw a comic or just random art things? (Both are good). I'm only interested because you're art's so pwetty :3, so please take this comment/these questions in the least creepy way possible!
I'm so comfortable under my internet rock! A long time ago I used to be super open about my life but I hate to admit it was cos my life was boring as hell. It hasn't been boring in a looong time... but its not in a fun way that I want to share... Hmm. I'm 26. I don't draw random art things but I don't draw a comic either (though I have a story I am writing to be a comic, the rest of my stories aren't, my ideas for their formats vary). I am... looking for a day job AHAHaha man I am such a starving artist cliche right now.
IS THIS SATISFACTORY cos that's all you're getting :)
This drawing is old! I feel like sharing it cos I still love it and is stupidly still one of my favorite portraits I've ever done, because real people are so firetrucking hard to draw. Hng. Plus Bob and Harry (from the Dresden Files) made the most adorable odd couple on tv (more than the actual original one /blasphemy). I'm a horrible person who actually preferred the tv show to the books, even though I love both, but honestly I think Paul Blackthorne's Harry is so much more likeable and it just took me FOREVER to get over book Harry's long black trenchcoat, being one of the things that makes it really impossible for me to like urban fantasy very much LOL
Plus I mean HELLO Terrence Mann, the tv writers giving Bob an awesome human backstory, making him fussy and English, FTW. Also since I'm already opening myself up for some flames I might as well add that Jim Butcher's potrayal of female characters is kind of... gross. THERE I SAID IT
Oh god I'm really rambling here.
What college did you go to to learn how to be such a fantastic artist? And what was your major?
ahaha I don't know what you're talking about, I was a fantastic artist way before college *snortsnortsnort*
In SLIGHTLY more seriousness, I never finished college and part of the reason was because I felt like I wasn't learning anything (except how to be pretentious), I had professors looking at my work and asking me why I was bothering, and struggling with a severe depression ended up losing my scholarship, the only way I could afford to go to such an expensive school (Carnegie Mellon University).
... Though hindsight is 20/20 and honestly my mistake was majoring in Fine Art, it was a terrible fit. Still dealing with some residual bitterness to this day, for an idea of my Opinions on the matter I recommend the movie Art School Confidential, it mirrors my experience pretty accurately!
Don’t have time to draw currently :C so here’s something old I GUESS. Errikan’s life story gets peppered in through lots of flashbacks… I wrote it all out I may share if there’s interest (I… I’m shy though). I felt like I should have drawn him at further ages but I don’t actually know what he’d look like?? A happily ever after Errikan would look rather different from an Continuing Adventures-then-later-dies-in-a-barfight-related-freak-accident Errikan. … … I do know he keeps trying SO HARD to grow a beard and succeeds… eventually. Very eventually. Elvish men have it so hard.
No pressure but if you like my huge posters your chance to own one is HEEEEERE. Plus you get an awesome comic book too I guess. :P And a bunch of other prints. And digital swag. And postcards. And just go check out the campaign already lol
The second stretch goal for the kickstarter has just been unlocked! That means everyone who’s pledged in tiers $50 and above will be getting an additional print in their package - a special limited edition 8 x 10 print illustrated by @wscottforbes!
The next stretch goal is very special! Once the kickstarter hits 30K, everyone who has pledged in tiers $50 and above will get a chance to upgrade their package to include an EXTRA LARGE Poster illustrated by @quantumqstar!
I’ve been getting previews of it, y’all and trust me - you’ll want in on it! Take some time to check out the kickstarter here!
I noticed that this raised some questions, lol. I did waffle on it for a while but yeah there was some reasoning behind it (no really)
a. rubber bullets.
b. she is a cop (detective NOPD anti-gang, coast guard reservist instead of full time) and feels naked without it /stereotype
c. she has great aim with firearms, not so much with powers.
d. edited her abilities so she has to switch her entire mass to energy form to use her power, no laser hand-blasts.
e. this version of Monica is when she is very new and doesn't have precise control over her ability, her resting energy state is basically a glowy white-light energy being that is diffused over a fairly wide area so she doesnt risk incinerating everything/one around her. When she concentrates it she can tap into the cosmic background radiation to boost her intensity but its like opening power floodgates. This is great for battle against superbeings and giant monsters, not so much against humans. She CAN manifest at more midrange intensities but no matter what area of the spectrum she's at this would be either very annoying to downright dangerous (disrupting radio communications, internet and wifi, being too blindingly bright. Or uh giving everyone around her radiation poisoning/cancer... not really an acceptable form of collateral damage. Everyone tends to draw the line at weaponized throwing cars)
f. IN CONCLUSION, her two current settings are essentially "light show" and "atom bomb".
/nerd
PS- later on she learns to reign it in enough to work as an Active Denial System though :p but takes a level of precision she doesn't initially have and would just microwave everything.
Portrait commission, tried to move out of my comfort zone a little and do more dramatic light/shadow.
GET IN ON THIS, IM MAKING A POSTERRRRR
✦❤✦ THE KICKSTARTER FOR AGENTS OF THE REALM HIT ITS FUNDING GOAL ✦❤✦
Gosh gosh gosh!! Thank you all SO MUCH for your support so far!! Last night the Kickstarter managed to hit it’s initial funding goal of 17K! The kickstarter campaign, however, is still running and will remain running until March 2nd so I’ve got LOTS of stuff planned for the extra funds to go towards!
Are you looking for an easy way to show your Magical Girl pride? If the Kickstarter hits 20K, I’ll be getting 1.5″ Enamel metal pins made so you can let the world know exactly how magical you are!
If the Kickstarter passes that…
Everyone who pledges in the tiers $50 and above will get a chance to upgrade in order to get their hands on limited edition prints made by these wonderful artists! I was lucky enough to get @wscottforbes, @quantumqstar and @mattahan to agree to create absolutely gorgeous artwork in honor of Agents of the Realm. I’ve been getting peaks at the works done so far and let me tell you, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on them!
From there, the funds will be going towards making the book even more shiny and magical than it already is!
Hitting 40K means everyone who pledged in $30 or above gets their softcovers upgraded to be foil embossed!! Talk about a perfectly fitting upgrade.
And the last stretch goal is a Foil Hardcover Upgrade available for everyone who pledged in tiers $50 and above!
The campaign still has 22 days left! Let’s keep this ball rolling!
questionstar.org & questionstar@deviantart. I like to make art, friends, costumes, trouble, and history this is an art/creativity/rambling blog where I complain about art more often than I actually post it!
