This Is A Harvest Mouse Appreciation Post

The simple fact is that in retrospect whatever we do WILL have been either an under- or an overreaction. Either we don’t do enough and it becomes an absolute disaster, or we do just enough, it doesn’t become an absolute disaster, and everyone goes “haha why was everyone panicking? Why did I have to stay at home?” It’s like the Y2K bug, after nothing bad happened it was seen as an absolute joke, but the only reason why nothing happened is that a lot of smart people spent a lot of time and money fixing it. If we social-distance and self-isolate properly and make this go away, it WILL be seen as a joke and an overreaction in the future. That’s fine, that’s the best possible outcome.

Generally, I’m not the person to talk about politics but today something happened in my country. There’re mass protests all over Russia, all because of our president having a fucking palace thanks to stolen money and arresting the person who found it out and shared with people (Aleksey Navalny) who happens to be the leader of opposition and who was almost killed with chemical weapon a few months ago.

The police have arrested more than 1000 people today including a 10 year old child. We have no one to rely on, no one to ask for help. Putin has been on the throne for about 20 years and now he has a possibility to continue ruling Russia due to constitutional amendments that were approved in 2020.

I can do nothing but ask you to spread this information, so that people know we need help. We don’t want the dictator to rule our country anymore, we’re sick and tired.

I think one of the best names of a real-world geographical location is “the Inaccessible Pinnacle of Sgùrr Dearg"

I do! I'm imagining the inner face of an invisible sheep, which has a rippling pattern on its underbelly that appears and vanishes as it moves about its circuit.

Star systems follow a standard blueprint that keeps their orbits stable.  They are organized in a hierarchical setup. What that means is that each set of orbits is on a different size scale.  The sizes of stars’ orbits do not go 1-2-3, they go 1-10-100. Any one star is only really close to one other star.  After that, other stars are much farther away.

This system is hierarchical because each close pair of stars (stars a and b, b and c, etc) is much closer to each other than any other stars (or pairs of stars).  The separation between stars a and b is much smaller than the separation between stars a+b and c+d, which is much smaller than the separation between stars a+b+c+d and e+f+g+h.  Let’s say that the separation between the closest binaries is 0.1 Astronomical Units, the separation between each pair of close binaries is 1 Astronomical Unit, and the separation between clumps of 4 stars is 10 Astronomical Units.
