If you don’t know my home situation which in turn ties into my financial situation I don’t have a lot of incoming money, and while I have been able to pay off bills most of the time it’s with the help of friends or donations. I’m on a  plan with my energy company to help cut the cost down, however due to an error on their website my payment last month was delayed and as a result I’ve been kicked off the energy plan. While I’ve been on the phone with them since I’ve received the notice, nothing has helped and every state financial assistance program I’ve been to in the city is just legitimately out of assets to help people because of a lack of funding.

I’ve been able to get about $150 bucks so far, and I’ve managed to get the energy company to only want $1015 to put me back on the plan and avoid a shut off of my lights and electricity. Honestly I’m at the end of my rope in regards to this, my sisters have moved out after months of living here and not paying on bills and it’s just a mess. I haven’t eaten in a bit to scrape everything I can toward paying this, and if you can help out in anyway you can or just spread the word I’d be really fucking grateful.

This little girl was abducted from her fathers home in Alberta at 3:30 am today (September 14th) and he was stabbed to death.

Honestly, she’s two. Who could do such a thing to an innocent child!? Her name is Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette and if you see anything suspicious, you’re asked to call 911, not intervene.

Ugh, my heart breaks for that family 💔

URGENT: get the hell off Apache OpenOffice, it's insecure and not worked on any more. LibreOffice is better in literally every way.

you know OpenOffice, right? free substitute for Microsoft Office which is basically just as good, but free.

well, it’s not as good. and is in fact actively dangerous to use.

the security hole: HWP files can be exploited and pwn your PC. obscure minor format, no problem … except that if you get a HWP file with a .DOC extension - say, what appears to be a MS Word file emailed you by anyone - you can get pwned by that.

they’ve known about this since april 2015 and haven’t fixed it. they have distributed over 8 million known-vulnerable copies of AOO since 27 april. (and the 143 million vulnerable before that.)

the fix is, literally, remove one file from the installer. they haven’t got it together to do this in five months.

tell everyone you know. tell your writer friends. tell your family with that old copy.  tell anyone you see running OpenOffice. get LibreOffice, it also originated in OpenOffice but is actually developed and they show the slightest sign of caring about their end users. LO 5.0 is really very nice. much faster to use than 4.4 too.

so what’s going on here:

Sun Microsystems (mild yay) ran OpenOffice from 2000 to 2010. it was imperfect, but it was good enough and free and open-source. it accumulated one heck of a famous brand name. (“we need an office program” “how about that openoffice thing”)

Oracle (boo hiss!) bought Sun in early 2010. OpenOffice development stopped as they reassigned developers.

a bunch of non-Sun/Oracle developers went “bugger this” and forked it (‘cos it was open source) in late 2010. thus, LibreOffice, which immediately became stupidly better.

Oracle had a snit and shoved the corpse of OpenOffice at the Apache Foundation in mid-2011 at the behest of IBM, who wanted to do it their way.

Apache OpenOffice had nothing worth the trouble, but got downloads because of the famous “OpenOffice” brand name.

IBM gave up in late 2013. since then, AOO has literally been sixteen ex-Sun devs squatting the name and doing bugger-all with it. their reasons are unclear.

they insist they still have a product, even though what they’ve actually achieved has been to put over eight million downloads that they knew were vulnerable on people’s PCs. possibly your PC.

instead of fixing it, by removing one file from the installer, they post excuses for not doing stuff.

(if this sounds like a fascinating tale, feel free to check the extensively-cited history sections of the OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice articles on wikipedia, which i mostly researched and wrote.)

Apache OpenOffice’s lack of developers since IBM gave up is extensively documented. many have expressed concerns over the BLATANT SECURITY HOLE. in late august a Red Hat developer posted an open letter urging them to just give up the pretense and redirect the end users (that’s you) to LibreOffice. this had wide impact, and quite a pile of others concurred that they need to stop making life actively worse for the end users. the AOO people posted numerous comments making excuses … but they still distribute their known dangerous software and just won’t lift a finger to fix it.

tl;dr: get the hell off OpenOffice, get everyone you know the hell off OpenOffice. get LibreOffice, it is strictly superior in literally every dimension, and they actually give a damn about you the user and fix the security holes.

St Louis Police Faked Suicide Of a Black Man. He Survived And Told Everything

St. Lois police claimed that Bernard Scott, 44 committed suicide in the jail where he was taken on a minor traffic violation. Actually after detention Scott had abdominal pain and bleeding but police blocked paramedics who were going to take him to the hospital. After Scott lost conciseness with a stiff muscles, cops called another ambulance and told the doctors that Bernard Scott hanged himself. Probably police could get away with it, but Scott survived and recalled everything: “Why would I hang myself? I was in on traffic tickets… the first ambulance driver wanted to take me with him, but the guy wouldn't let me leave.”

It’s hard to say why cops did this cruel and absolutely mad shit. Anyway they should be sentenced for murder attempt!

No Criminal Charges For Deputies Who Killed Natasha McKenna in Jail + Video Released Of Her Being Tortured To Death Naked

Fairfax County’s head prosecutor announced Tuesday that he will not pursue charges in the controversial death of a mentally ill woman who died after being restrained and Tasered at the Fairfax County jail in February, calling it a “tragic accident”.

Natasha McKenna, 37, resisted a team of deputies trying to remove her from her cell for a transfer. The deputies placed her in handcuffs, leg restraints and a mask before Tasering her four times. McKenna stopped breathing a short time later and died days later at a hospital.

As Ms. McKenna lay on life support in a hospital before dying, her mother took photos of her battered body — two black eyes, a missing or amputated finger, severe bruises running the length of her left arm.

Two days after the announcement to let the murderer cops go free, Fairfax County Sheriff Stacey Kincaid released the 45-min video that shows a prolonged struggle between a naked, mentally ill Natasha McKenna and five deputies in biohazard suits. In the video (which contains disturbing content) McKenna fights deputies for more than 17 minutes while they torture and tase her repeatedly while naked. About 38 minutes into the recording, she loses consciousness.

“There is no better way for me to share what actually occurred than to make this video available to view for the community in its entirety,” Kincaid said at the start of the 48-minute video.

At the start of the encounter, a deputy says, “Natasha, we’re here to take you out,” and then McKenny utters her last words:

“You promised me you wouldn’t kill me. I didn’t do anything,” McKenna says.

Neither Morrogh nor McKenna’s family attorney, Harvey Volzer, could be immediately reached for comment.

This jackass district attorney has put the lives of a lot of teens in danger by revealing these apps to parents. Now parents everywhere are going through their kids’ phones, looking for trouble(which they’ll likely find). 

Closeted teens everywhere are likely in a lot of danger right now. If you use a hider app to hide resources or a diary or anything else, it’s very possible your family might find it. 

Please please help yourself and remove these apps immediately! Switch your SD card if you need to!  I’m not even trying to scare people but I know that when I was a teen, had mom found my hider app I would have been in for a world of hurt. Please be safe!

– raising minimum wage to a living wage $15 , anyone with kids or in general should be able to see their families & friends instead of working 2 jobs to barely live

– by raising minimum wage we will be lowering poverty rates in america , & we do happen to have the highest poverty rates.

– Free or almost free education in all public schools, plans to substantially lower student loan payments for everyone & plans to make all public colleges free , giving everyone the right to education that they are able to obtain

– free or very cheap access to internet for everyone, for research , school , etc. without hidden rates etc.

– gender equality in the workplace, consisting of equal wages & making it illegal to deny someone work for their gender identity or sexual orientation.

– for the legalization of marijuana for medical & recreational usages , & adding taxes to it. letting everyone in jail for marijuana related charges out.

can we just like, all agree to boycott tumblr for 24 hours to show the staff that we’re pissed about the update? because they have to track usage and stuff like that, and I feel like it would send a pretty big message if enough people did it. like nothing fancy, just don’t use tumblr from 12:00am to 11:59pm, one whole day of nothing, not even mobile blogging. maybe set up one queue’d post explaining why you’re boycotting (so anyone that doesn’t get the memo would know what’s up) but other than that maybe even stop queues (just for the day) to help send the message.

I’d propose Wednesday, September 9th as the day. That’s one week after the update, one week to give it a try, one week to show the staff that we’re not just overreacting to change (the way people are apt to do on the internet) but are serious about not liking the way they’ve changed our blogging experience. That also gives us a week to get this post around the site: long enough to spread it around, but not so long that people forget that we’re going to do this. Maybe set a reminder on your phone or computer so that you don’t forget. I’ll be posting in the tag #updateboycott throughout the week for general reminders and to answer any questions/suggestions.

And please, reblog this. The only way this will work is if enough people see this post and participate to make a difference.

I made a post about a week ago about 4 cats who need a home, one of the cats is staying with her original owner. So these three boys are left.

Chub Chub is a long haired orange/white cat. He has a lot of mats that I couldn’t brush out. 

He’s very vocal and very friendly

He doesn’t like to use the litterbox though, he also lives with 5 other cats right now and they all share one litter box. I don’t know if this is a medical issue or a temperment issue.

I’ve had very limited contact with him along with all the other cats.

2nd Photo:

This is Henry, he’s very shy and likes to hide under furniture. He has no problems using a litterbox and is very sweet but extremly timid.

Oreo, he’s one of the Maine Coons I mentioned, he has long dark fur and is almost completly matted. I’ve told my friend he needs to see a professional groomer to remove the mats. Like Chub Chub, he doesn’t like to use the litterbox. 

Note: Chub Chub and Oreo do use a litterbox but only if it’s completely clean

They have been editing not only actual screenshots of the characters, but people’s own fanart and gemsonas as well. What they do is make them all thinner, change the skin color to white, ect. Then they say it “looks better this way”, or “is more realistic”

They have also posted a very racist edit of steven several times that lies right up there with those two awful drawings that hotdiggetydemon did, if you remember. (CW: Antisemitism, Racism, Slurs)

They are obviously just trying to piss people off and rile everyone up, you can see this just by reading the blog description

I don’t know if they think this is just a funny prank or if they think it’ll be funny to see people freak out or what, but a ton of pissed off people coming after them in their inbox is most likely exactly what they want, and honestly you could do more damage by reporting them and hopefully getting them deleted. Send a message to them if you want, but from what I’ve read through it won’t fix anything. They’ll just have a shitty response and continue with what they’re doing.
