Detentionaire is a better mystery that gravity falls in that it actually surprises you.

Gravity falls made it pretty clear from the start weird shit was gonna happen and all the rules were out the window when the kids fucking float in the intro.

Detentionaire? It’s deceptive. You think it’s just some goofy comedy about a kid busting out of detention to prove he didn’t pull a prank he was punished for like ha ha wacky adventures with colorful characters and him always just narrowly missing getting the proof he needs - and that does happen …..for a wHILE

then as he digs deeper the main character lee goes from

“Ha ha high school is so hard my mom is so embarrassing”

To

“THE SODA IS MIND CONTROL POTION, I MIGHT BE A CLONE AND THE ONLY FRIEND I CAN TRUST IS AN ANCIENT LIZARD THAT WILL EAT ME IF IT GETS BORED”
