A lot of people are sympathetic to the concept of PTSD but not the reality of it.
They expect you to stare off into space or be sad, and they aren’t sympathetic to the angry moments, to strong reactions to triggers, to the paranoia and fear of abandonment, they aren’t sympathetic to the disorders that are often co-morbid like personality disorders, dissociative disorders, or psychotic disorder. There’s more to PTSD than just “being shy” or scared.
You can only reblog this today.
hate to be that guy who reposts twitter screenshots but im obsessed with this answer. he is so fucking correct

we need to keep calling chris pratt a homophobe because if we do it enough he will inevitably get himself cast in a movie where he acts a gay character to try prove he's not homophobic, and then during the press tour he'll get asked if it was hard to play a gay character and he'll fuck up and say something like "yeah it was a huge challenge for me because I actually hate gay people" and it'll be a fuckin field day on tumblr
i miss when ppl straight up lied on here. i’m gonna start doing it again. okay so yesterday i saw hannibal lecter in the target bathroom
Text: I want you to know about… Autistic Shutdown
Autistic shutdown is like an internalized meltdown. While the person is experiencing a lot of emotions, they can’t express them outwardly.
It may look like this:
Zoning out
Exhaustion/falling asleep
Hiding/defensive position
How can allistic (non-autistic) folks help?
Safety first! Help them to a quiet space w minimal simuli
Be sensory sensible! Have a kit tailored to their need (eg ear defenders, stuffie or squishy and blanket)
Eliminate all expectations/demands. They are currently overloaded.
Reduce interaction, giving them time and space (shh..)
Remember:
Autistic shut-down is NOT stubborness, laziness or disrespect
Autistic shut-down IS involuntary, painful, exhausting Please be patient and compassionate.
