whatever feelings you have about pronouns are always okay.

it's probably more common than people talk about too. this is actually how i felt for a long time about my pronouns in german. i definitely didn't want german he/him or she/her, but no german neopronouns or it/its gave me the "right" feeling. i ended up kinda flip-flopping around.

sometimes "this'll do" is the best option.

(there's also always the possibility of not using pronouns or using multiple sets or making up your own neopronouns.)

Hi. I am the proud mother of my beautiful daughter, grace helbet. At two weeks old, my daughter was diagnosed with sickle cell , my daughter almost died due to complications from this disease. She suffered ALOT, but the worst were the THREE strokes to the brain. She had to learn how to do everything over again and of course this required me being off of work. Because of the strokes she now has to have chronic transfusions. I was a teacher with BENEFITS to where if she was sick I could still get paid because I was on salary and had FML. But because she is disabled, the government said I made too much money and that if she was cut off her disability check she would lose her insurance. I wasn’t concerned about the money because I am able to work. But I am not able to pay for her medical expenses out of pocket and I was forced to resign so that my child could get the care she needed. My job had Blue Cross Blue Shield which would have been $200 to add her and it only allowed three hospital visits per year and if you are familiar with sickle cell, they stay in and out of the hospital. So that wouldn’t work. I got evicted because I was unable to work . now over 6 months i don't have job . No groceries. Bills past due and broke has me so down. An assist of any kind is such a blessing. I’m currently struggling with hospital bills and food. Anyway, pretty much what it says on the tin. I haven't felt safe living where I do for Some Time Now, and I have a great opportunity to move somewhere better, but I don't currently have the money for a cross-country move.

As things stand, I'd rather not pay rent on a room I'm not occupying while I save up moving money, but if that's the only option, that's what I'll do, because it's more or less impossible to find rent this good in the Bay Area. It just won't make me any safer in the short term, and not getting medical treatment because I feel unsafe around the medical transportation folks isn't a great long-term strategy.

While I can't offer incentives to donate on the GoFundMe site, I'm happy to offer 3-card tarot readings for every donation of $10 or more, 5-card readings for $15 or more, and bigger and more complicated readings for anything $30 and above, so long as you're not asking for a relationship spread for your 7-person polycule. It's always infuriated me hearing people say that children have it easy. It's only gotten worse as I've gotten older and have been able to reflect on my childhood and see the children around me grow up.

They do not have it easy. They don't get a say in most important things. They're seen is unintelligent, yet expected to understand things that full grown adults struggle with.

They've got a job, which is school, that is actually proven to not be working for a lot of them; myself included. They're expected to sit still and in silence for at least forty minutes at a time, and those with ADHD are treated as though they're immature and lazy because they often physically can't do it.

Far too many of them have abusive parents that lie through their teeth to make people think everything is fine, and of course, who would believe the child over the parent?

Aspects of abuse has been normalised. Parents are sympathised with when children open up about the things they've gone through, especially if they're not physical. They're told that their parents are only doing this because they love them, or that the child needs to start seeing things from their point of view. Meanwhile, adults can freely complain about their children on public forums and to friends and family and get away with it because "it's hard being a parent".

Fuck off and do better.

I think personal labels can be useful for “there’s a word for it”, “I’m not alone”, and “oh neat, I know what to put in a search engine now” reasons, but I also think they can be troublesome.

Plenty of people won’t fit 100% neatly into a label, and when they encounter a rare exception to what is otherwise an accurate label for them, it can feel like an identity crisis.

The labels aren’t literally what you are. They’re words. They’re meant to assist communication and organization, not to control you.

I fucking hate when people say stuff like this. Especially when it's on a generally good post with valuable information. On the one hand I want to share that information because it could genuinely help someone; on the other, I don't want to spread this type of guilt-tripping and shaming and potentially trigger someone else like me. It's a lose-lose situation. No matter what I do, I am going to feel guilty. No matter what I do, I will feel like a terrible person. It sucks and I just wish people would stop doing this. I know it's shocking, but it is actually possible to make an important and useful post without guilting everyone that sees it into sharing.

something i can't stop thinking about is the fact that Percy Jackson started as a comfort story for Rick's son to show him that his adhd and dyslexia doesn't have to be just a bad thing and the fandom then took Percy and Leo and made them into these stupid idiots that don't even know basic math or "big" words and wouldn't be able to even tie their shoelaces without someone else's (someone smarter's) help

don't yall see how fucked up that is? a big part of this fandom has adhd and/or dyslexia and/or other learning disabilities/neurodivergence and find comfort in those characters. they are called lazy and stupid all the time and then yall decided to take characters with those disabilities and ignore their inteligence and made them into something they are not just because their adhd is more "visible" (read more stereotypical looking) (even tho that's not true either because the fandom made them into chaotic gremlins but in reality Percy is more just sarcastic and snarky and even that is more just his internal monologue for his own amusment and to cope and Leo just uses humor as a coping mechanism to hide his depression and other issues but that's a discussion for another time)

Percy is canonically very smart and strategic. no he isn't very good at school. it's what happens when you're neurodivergent and have learning disabilities. that doesn't mean he's stupid. no he doesn't know everything about greek mythology and that doesn't make him stupid either. but when Annabeth tells him the myth he is very good at coming up with strategies and how to win a fight. he's not smart as Annabeth because Annabeth is literally a daughter of the goddess of wisdom so stop fucking comparing them. are you also going to call Annabeth weak and incapable because she can't control water? no you won't because that's fucking stupid. and Leo. fucking Leo. is literally canonically a mathematic genius and also genius when it comes building stuff. they're both smart. they're not fucking stupid. they know and understand words that are longer than 5 letters. no they do not struggle with basic knowledge. they're not fucking stupid.

in conclusion: the way this fandom portrays Percy and Leo is reinforcing the harmful misconception that people with adhd and/or other learning disabilities are stupid and i hate it with a burning passion

call me sensitive all you want i'll gladly accept it i will rather be called sensitive for hating that those characters are being treated this way than follow the fandoms harmful idea about them

Okay hear me out here.

The Percy Jackson movies are good.

Now I do have an explanation for this.

They’re good - ignoring the books. Like, if you take them away from being the stories of the books.

Like how they do Grover! I love Grover in the movies so much. I can’t lie, in the first movie, with the Hydra I think it was, all I could think of was that “OH SHIT! OH SHIT!” meme because that is so something Grover would do.

Now, I’ve just been watching them, I’m just starting Sea of Monsters right now, as I can’t wait for the series and can’t read the books right now, and I needed SOMETHING. I can’t really remember the movie too well, so I’m mainly talking about Lightning Thief in this post.

Just one thing that REALLY annoys me, regardless of the story, is when Percy and Luke are fighting, and Percy is about to be beat, so he uses the water from the water thingies to attack Luke.

That could have KILLED Luke, he was holding the embodiment of fucking lightning. Electrified water is very very dangerous, could have very easily killed Luke. Percy was being extremely reckless.

Also just the things that they miss out, like the Laestrygonians at the start of Sea of Monsters and Clarisse in Lightning Thief, and Tantalus in Sea of Monsters again. All these little things, would make it so much better. I understand that they didn’t have the time as it’s a movie, but at least Tantalus would have added to the movie so much if done well.

(Also random side note, I always imagined Clarisse as rather bulky, not a skinny little thing like in the movies.)

As amazing as the series looks, and it does look amazing, I think they should re-make the movies too. I don’t even care if they aren’t completely book accurate at this point, just make them a little bit better here and there, and they’d be amazing.
