One thing I dislike about the atla fandom is how they portray Suki. Like??? She’s only known for teaching Sokka to chug that respect women juice but that’s all she’s known for?? Teaching a boy to be a decent person and that’s just?????? Not it????? She’s the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors even though she’s a teenager. She’s skilled at martial arts and acrobatics which is shown throughout the series. She is fiercely loyal as she sacrificed her freedom to help save Appa so he could go save the Gaang most likely knowing she wasn’t going to win against Azula (along with Mai and Ty Lee but I remember them running off to go after the other warriors). She’s also a well written “strong female” character with her acknowledging that she can be a girl but she can also be a warrior and that’s okay (“I am a warrior, but I’m a girl too”). She also respects Sokka’s decision when he doesn’t kiss her back and apologizes because he doesn’t want him to feel guilty or to hurt him. Without her, Zuko, Hakoda, and Sokka could most likely not break out of the prison without her getting the warden. Finally, without her, Toph and Sokka would most likely be dead which would idk suck.
Suki is truly an amazing person and I’m so sick of everyone reducing her to “Sokka’s boyfriend” or “This is my boyfriend Sokka and Sokka’s boyfriend Zuko” or even worse excluding her from the Gaang. She is just as strong as the rest of the Gaang and just because she is a side character or a non-bender does not make her less important or allow you guys to reduce her to teaching a man not to be sexist because she is way more than and people don’t seem to know that.

The first pride was a riot, more specifically a riot against police violence. Trans women like Miss Major and other people of colour paved the way for the celebration of pride today. You cannot celebrate your pride this month, or any month if you aren’t also supporting Black Lives Matter and the riots going on against police violence right now. Us white LGBTQ+ need to stand up for our black siblings and their rights, their struggles. We need to amplify their voices and show any support we can.
