A nearly complete 1st century BCE carnyx found in 2004 at Tintignac, France (the one in the left picture, with a reconstruction in the right). Fashioned as a snarling boar, the carnyx was a war horn used by the Iron Age Celts between c. 200 BCE and c. 200 CE
I need mental intervention bc I’ve had this fake arctic monkeys song stuck in my head for like five days now
you’re hearing it more and more
the most obnoxious part of the holiday season is commercials that try to sound like ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas and have a dinky xylophone playing in the background while the narrator tells you in rhyme to buy a Ford
i’m reading the poppy war right now
"Why are there so many female archers in fiction?"
Please forgive the clickbait-y title! This is a super complex and interesting topic that I barely scratch the surface of here, but I hopefully will be able to do more justice to things like this in the future!
Also, it's not the point of the video, but I had fun with the outfits in this- do you have any faves?
As always, please consider supporting me on Patreon if you can, or watching on youtube if not!

For alyrimba and anyone else who needs this: if you have an iPhone (don’t know about other devices, sorry) AO3 will allow you to download fics to the Books app. Hit Download and then I believe the file type is EPUB. You can open it right from the browser’s downloads into the Books app so then you can read offline!
Good to know!
Finally, thank you! There’s also the fact that she looks almost EXACTLY LIKE AANG!! She has the same round face shape and big grey eyes. It’s always weird to me how you don’t see more people making that comparison, because they look exactly like each other.
What's your opinion on the hc that says Ty Lee descends from airbenders ? (her style of fighting is interestingly close to airbending)
it makes sense, and i understand the theory, but i think this is still kinda surface-level analysis when it comes to unpacking ty lee’s inner complexity. assuming ty lee is descended from airbenders adds a dimension to her character because it means that she is serving a direct descendant of the man who wiped out her people and intends to complete that mission, which would give her reason to resent azula even more than she already does. but since I already believe that she resents azula plenty, I feel like there are better reasons in the text that point to understanding why that is. like, i’m definitely not averse to this idea, she does look far more like aang than she does any of the fire nation nobility, and she definitely has some airbender moves, but I don’t know how much this enriches her character since we don’t have that much context about her family. I wish we did tho; I feel like even the little we do know of her background is enlightening.
I keep The Amazing Devil's Bandcamp page open on a browser tab (sometimes I just wanna roll around in their lyrics even though their words are already burned into my brain, okay, don't look at me). And today I scrolled all the way down to the bottom of Love Run's page and I noticed something I just never paid attention to before:
The antifolk tag (which is also in their other albums) intrigued me so I looked it up and found this website and this description:
Antifolk (sometimes incorrectly spelled as anti-folk) is a musical genre that promotes song-writing over technique and personality over polish. Some see it as the evolution of folk, others as a combination on punk and folk. Others believe the musical genre is so loose and difficult to define that in reality it is more of a scene.
Emphasis mine. Isn't this what we've all been yelling about in so many posts, tags, and conversations? Validation, fuck yeah!
Anyway, I think it's neat to have an answer (even if it's a nebulous one) for the ever-confounding question of what TAD music is like, a term that captures their storytelling flair and raw emotional power. Not that I believe any of us can ever limit ourselves to a single-word response when asked to describe TAD, lol.
Just to be absolutely clear, I don’t agree with real person shipping, especially in public spaces like social media. Objectifying other people’s relationships is not cool and can do real damage to real people.
As a fan it can be easy to view celebrities and influencers as an abstract concept and feel that the things we do in fan spaces don’t affect them, but that’s really the farthest thing from the truth. Shipping real people can negatively affect people with millions of fans, let alone when people ship those in their more direct social circles like friends or teachers.
It’s just really not a good idea, and I want rpf shippers to know that I don’t hate them and it’s really not personal, but I just think that shipping real people is very very different from shipping fictional characters as the former can actively hurt the real lives of others in so many ways. I think it’s just best to refrain from real person shipping, period.
