you are an average 25 year old… or at least you’re sure you are. By now, it would be very embarrassing to continue making being an orphan your entire personality; even though your parents did disappear when you were 12. That’s basically old news though, you’re still working on the residual trauma with your therapist.

There’s just one thing though, ever since then, you’ve gained strange… abilities. You’ve always thought they were quite unhelpful. You can never activate them consistently, even now. They only seem to appear when your emotions are quite strong.

It gets worse, though. You have a demon attached to you. And you have no idea how to get rid of it. Nothing you’ve tried so far can get rid of it, and it keeps implying that its targeting you on purpose. To what end, you’re scared to think about that. Even though you have a good guess. Surely now, it would be good to mention your stalker, too. It’s seriously only wednesday…

You may not like calling on them for help but you need everyone you can get in this fight.

A semblance of normalcy in your otherwise hectic life— with a soap opera addiction and cookie obsession— they’ve been one of the only bright spots you’ve able to look forward to. Especially since they seem to have no idea of who you used to be; small blessings, you suppose. Their horrible puns, sarcastic retorts, and caffeine fueled rants, are something that you’ve cherished greatly.

The voice you’ve been hearing within your head for the last two years. You don’t know where it’s from— or why it appeared— but you get the feeling that there is more to it than you simply hearing things. Visions— or nightmares— coming to you while you sleep adding to that conclusion; a gentle touch turning fiery as you awaken with a gasp. You just don’t know what to do with the burning sensation they awaken within you.

Content Warning: The game and this blog are rated 17+. Specific CWs will be updated as the game progresses, but Zorlok will contain swearing, alcohol and drug use, sexually suggestive content, violence, religious themes, and death.

You were a terrifying demon who wielded hellfire, fought angels, and corrupted souls (or some other shit like that), but that version of you vanished the night you made your deal with Tommy, a nerdy high schooler who was willing to sell his soul if you helped him become "cool."

That should have been easy. Right? Just pop him in front of a box fan for a few minutes, take his soul, and be on your merry way in under half an hour. But, no! That little shit had the nerve to tell you to forget your past and adopt the name Zorlok - the name of the demon his D&D character made a pact with.

So, now you're "Zorlok" and you have no idea who or what the Hell you really are. You know you're a demon, but that's it. You don't know how or why you became a demon, how to use your infernal powers, you aren't even sure how these deals are supposed to work. You tried the fan thing and nothing happened, but maybe there's some trick to stealing souls you haven't figured out yet. Until then, you're gonna have to do this the hard way.

And as if that wasn't enough, since Tommy realized monsters and magic are real too, he somehow got you involved with a mosnter hunter connected to the local Fay Council. Now you're on a team with two random humans protecting the city from feral beasts, investigating strange deaths, and fighting some "great evil." Whatever. It's better than doing Tommy's math homework.

Tommy Osorio

Tommy is the 15 year-old who trapped you in this pact and then forced you to forget your past. You will get his soul if you help him become the coolest kid at his high school, but your starting to wonder if that's an impossible task. Tommy seems to think that becoming popular will make his former best friend, Jin, less embarrassed to hang out with him. It seems like he's just a kid looking for a friend, but that can't be it. The Tommy you see wouldn't have the sense to take away your identity. Either he's putting up a damn good façade or someone else told him what to do.

Tommy is a cisgender male. Your relationship with Tommy can go in several directions including remaining perfectly neutral, caring for and protecting him like a sibling, or seething with hatred and messing with him as much as you can.

Dev (RO)

The de facto leader of your monster hunting trio, Dev's a career criminal who's been entrenched in the supernatural world since xe got involved with a pixie mob over 10 years ago. You've heard that Dev became a member of the LAFC (the Los Angeles Fay Court) but don't know why xe would abandon that life and return to the small town xe grew up in. Maybe it has something to do with the magic eye xe keeps hidden under that eye patch?

Dev is gender selectable and can be cisgender nonbinary (xe/xem), cisgender male (he/him), or cisgender female (she/her). Dev is bisexual, grayromantic, and polyamorous.

E.J. (RO)

Dev's childhood friend, your new roommate, and a reluctant member of your monster hunting team. EJ is a human who was living a completely ordinary life unaware of magic's existence until you showed up at their door. However, strange, unexplained phenomena have plagued EJ for decades and their uncontrolled arcane powers have only grown more volatile since you moved in.

EJ is gender selectable and can be transgender nonbinary (they/them), cisgender male (he/him), or cisgender female (she/her). EJ is bisexual, biromantic, and monoamorous.

Adam / Eve Park (RO)

A talented, young detective who's dedicated to protecting the people of Casper from harm. Like most citizens, Park isn't aware of magic's existence, but they have their suspicions and realize that more's going on here than meets the eye. They also firmly - and somewhat correctly - believe that their former friend turned bitter rival, Dev, is somehow involved with the strange phenomena plaguing the city.

Detective Park is gender selectable and can either be Adam, a transgender man (he/him), or Eve, a transgender woman (she/her). They're demisexual, panromantic, and polyamorous.

Ainsley

The leader of a rival monster hunting team, Ainsley is incredibly well-trained. Like, if you had to guess - which you don't but, you're bored - you'd guess she's ex-military. She also seems very warm and caring and based on the way she looks at you and Ciel, she doesn't seem to hold much prejudice against monstrous beings. All in all, she seems really nice. You're not sure how that makes you feel.

Ainsley is not gender selectable, she is a cisgender female who uses she/her pronouns. She is not romanceable.

Lucía (RO)

A member of the rival monster hunting team, you haven't had much of a chance to interact with Lucía. From what you've heard, you think she's some kind of park ranger, which is impressive considering that the state park which borders Casper is "infested" with monsters. You wonder what kind of things she's seen out there and what keeps bringing her back to the forest.

Lucía is not gender selectable, she is a cisgender female who uses she/her or they/them pronouns. Lucía is homosexual, homoromantic, and monoamorous. She identifies as a lesbian and can only be romanced by female or nonbinary characters.

Ciel (RO)

The final member of the rival monster hunting team, Ciel is an enigma to you - an acerbic, reticent, goth enigma to be exact. At first glance Ciel appears human but when you really look at them you notice their pointed ears, yellow eyes, and short fangs. You aren't sure exactly what Ciel is, but you're 96% sure they're not human.

Ciel's gender can be customized. They are always cisgender nonbinary but can go by she/they or he/they pronouns and be either feminine or masculine in appearance. They're asexual (sex-positive), panromantic, and polyamorous.

There are several other main characters - including three more ROs ("The Celestial", Danny, and Rose) - who I won't discuss in detail at this time due to spoilers.

"The Celestial" is omnigender (ey/em). Ey is aromantic, pansexual, and polyamorous (and had some kind of relationship with Zorlok back when they were The Demon).

Danny is gender selectable - either transgender nonbinary (any but she/he), cisgender male (he/him), or cisgender female (she/her). They are demiromantic, demisexual, and polyamorous.

Rose is a cisgender male (he/him). Rose is homosexual, homoromantic, and monoamorous. He is only romanceable by male or nonbinary characters

Those were the names that were given to you through the ages; mortals laying claim to something that would long outlive them.

The stories, myths, and legends hanging over you like an ever-present cloud— whether they were based on fact or not didn’t matter— as the centuries passed you by. Empires rising and falling like the evening tide before your eyes.

You don’t know the exact event that caused your long rest— you didn’t truly need to— but the boredom that the mortal world brought weighed on your shoulders like the heaviest of objects.

So, you closed your eyes and drifted away; allowing your body to lull itself into a false sense of serenity.

You just weren’t expecting the next time you opened them that you’d be in an entirely foreign place; new smells assaulting your senses that you’ve never encountered before.

All but one that is…

Blood.

However, when you went to investigate— trying to ignore the strangeness of your surroundings— you’re assaulted by a scene you weren’t expecting; a mutilated corpse lay mere feet from you, that didn’t truly phase you, but the odd object pointed directly at your chest and the shout of ‘police’ was certainly quite peculiar.

They remind you of a turtle with how quickly they retreat back into their shell.

With a cheerful disposition, horrible puns, and an all around helpful attitude, you knew that you’d be seeing a lot more of them. Maybe it’ll turn into something more?

Damon/Diana Walker - The Old Friend

Someone you haven’t seen in quite some time. Who’s seemed to finally come into their own; from someone who used to trip over their words to a flirtatious heartbreaker. You can’t help but notice, however, whenever you get near they seem to stumble back into their old role. Their words coming out with less suaveness and more quite nerves; you haven’t the slightest inclination why but maybe you’ll figure it out as you get to know them once more.
