hiii, I'm back! could I have a satyrkin-based recipe (I'm thinking easily forageable or homegrown ingredients like mushrooms and root vegetables)? I'm vegetarian and would prefer something that can be made with just one pot or pan. Thanks!! :3

Foreword: Growing up a bit broke we always did a lil something we called a Stir-About! It's a one pan dish, and can be easily adjusted to for whatever you like! We used to do a breakfast themed one for any meal because the ingredients were cheap and it was filling. Here's a more woodsy take on it! I didn't use true measurements because it really is an "as you can find it" and personal taste type dish .
DISCLAIMER: Use extreme caution when foraging and never eat something you can't 100% identify. Only take what you need and nothing more. Make sure you have the permission of private land owners before you forage on their land. A delicious dish is not worth risking your health or getting into legal trouble.
Ingredients:
Mushrooms (whatever you can safely forage! I recommend chanterelles and/or morels depending on your area!)
Burdock root (if you can find it)
Dandelion greens
Potatoes
Garlic (wild or otherwise)
Eggs (optional, but adds a bit of protein)
Salt and Pepper to Taste
Oil (use one with a high smoke point, like vegetable, canola, or avocado oil)
Directions:
Wash your vegetables! Either use water or a water bath with a slight amount of vinegar to clean them. To wash morels if you find them, shake the dirt off, then submerge in a bath of cold salt water and soak to clean.
Slice up all your veggies! You can peel the potatoes or not, it's really up to you!
Put some oil in your pot/pan of choice, although I recommend a deep pan.
Add your potatoes, and gently fry on medium to medium high until soft enough to stick a fork in them. Stir occasionally.
Add your roots next! Cook until soft.
Add your mushrooms and greens; cook until both are soft but the mushrooms aren't rubbery.
Season with salt, pepper, and any other seasonings!
Crack in your eggs! A good rule of thumb is to crack 2 eggs for each person you're serving and 1 for the pot.
Season again! Always season in layers.
I hope you enjoy!

I haven't been sleeping great lately and then today i went ham cleaning and remaking my nest
Thought to myself "huh weird, wonder whats up.." and then i remembered
spring... nesting season.....
the masculine urge to build wings for myself to wear
Any artists here who draws themselves as their kintype differently than what they’d actually look like?
For example, as a light fury, I KNOW that I literally just look like the Light Fury from the movie. However, when I draw myself, I like to personalize how I look more by drawing myself like this instead:
So anyone else make “OC” version of their kintype that has more artistic freedom when drawing yourselves, or do you just stick to what you would actually look like?
being a birdkin musician. first of all, the euphoria. music of all kinds makes me feel so bird, in such a weird way. pigeons don't play musical instruments, and still I feel more like one when I play them. and like. birds were meant to sing. (so were all animals that make Noise, I am a firm believer in that, but it hits harder for me with birds) birds were meant to sing! if the imposter syndrome is real, then you wouldn't have a voice, would you? if you weren't supposed to be making music then why is there a guitar in your hands?
but many pigeons have coos that sound a bit grating to some. we aren't the songbirds that people love. we are harsher sometimes. we bark, we are clumsier, we are stranger. birds are Noise, you don't need to be a songbird to make music, your coos and barks and everything can be just as melodic, just as pleasing and joyful, to the right music. make pigeon music. who is to say that your voice is wrong, if it is not hurting you? if it is the one that comes out of your throat? the one that serves you and who is to say that clumsiness is a sin? I don't know where I am going with this. this is a very half-finished though. :/
otherkin moodboard
I'm just saying that if my wings were not just phantom limbs I would shield all my catkins friends of the rain. I would provide shade in the hot summer for those who are more of a nocturnal type. I would keep my call blooded folks warm. And to all my human friends I would do the same if you ever need it. To all that are learning to fly I would give tips and to those too afraid of the open sky I would take time to tell you stories about the clouds because I once was scared to fly too.
But to everyone regardless of kin or type or experience I you all a great day!
look it's me! Emoji made by @sleepingcatemojis so all credit goes to them ☆

i wanna fly. so bad. i want to soar through clouds, weave between mountain peaks, feel the sun on my wings, dive into the sea, fly under the stars, perch somewhere high and watch the sun rise.

Okay my life got unexpectedly busy so I dont have art for this, but:
10 concepts for architecture, furniture, and minor lifestyle details when writing societies of winged people (any wing type)
1. Since people fly all the time, most of the buildings are probably up higher, with walkways between them. Winged people would invent amazing suspension bridges long before they invented a wheel (see also: the mountainous regions of central and south america, where wheels are not very useful, but bridges are extremely important)
2. Doorways would probably be wider and taller to better accommodate wings, no matter how they're held at rest (ex: if you want fairies with dragonfly wings, their rest position is out to the sides. So wide doorways would be important.) And doors would more likely be sliding doors rather than hinged doors (so you don't have to worry about stepping back and aside for the door, you can just walk through and not risk having your wings bump stuff)
3. Speaking of wings bumping things! Tall ceilings, wide hallways, and absolutely zero breakable objects at potential wing bumping height. The walls are basically bare from shoulder height on down.
4. Hammocks and nests instead of beds. Any form of sleep furniture must be built to let people comfortably sleep on their stomachs, possibly curled up into a fetal position with their knees beneath them. Lots of pillow piles. In the same vein, any lounging furniture would be built with either no back or a very low back. Maybe things like couches and chairs that just have a single armrest to lean against, but no back. Lots of sideways lounging. Any tables would have stools rather than full backed chairs.
5. Wing care is important. This will vary based on the style of wing you're using. Feathery wings will more likely lead to a culture of social grooming and feager combs. Maybe every bedroom has a wall with a feather comb to rub up against. Chairs that seat two so they can help each other groom their feathers. Bat wings would need regular bathing routines, probably some very nice large tubs in their homes for a proper washing, also a social grooming culture around that. Insect wings, I'm not sure exactly. They don't need cleaning the same way. But they are easier to damage. And we know from real life that they can be repaired and replaced! So perhaps a society of people with insect wings would get very very good at prosthetics and wing modification.
6. Wing flapping creates wind. So maybe people would hang up windchimes to hear when people come and go. Theres a lot of wing flapping involved in the landing process, so wind chimes would be an effective way to notice when someone has just landed at your doorstep.
7. Big windows, easily opened. Sometimes you just dont want to use a door. The door is the formal entrance, but windows and skylights are the causal entrances and exits.
8. Consider nomadic winged people who migrate seasonally: they would probably develop a lot of lightweight gear to help them migrate with all their belongings. Hammocks, communal huddling, possibly advanced cartography skills, special devices to distribute weight between multiple fliers carrying a large object together. Special carrying devices to hold children, elders, and the injured.
9. The outsides of every building would have many perches, especially social buildings. Rooftops are just another social space. Ladders are commonly used by anyone who cant fly for any reason.
10. Pretty much anything they make is going to be lightweight but hard to break. More carved wood dishes than ceramic ones, archery more than swords, very light clothing with open backs. But paper maybe not so much. It blows around too easily. Maybe they invent voice and image recording devices sooner than other people so they can more reliably record information in flight.
And that's 10 ideas for world building with winged people! @wolfeyedwitch I hope this is helpful to you! And to anyone else who may have been having trouble thinking up little details for their own winged folks.
Wing ref I posted as between-chapter art a while ago. Did I reference a raw chicken wing for the musculature? Yes, I did.
Aviankin culture is making a nest on your bed with pillows, and dragging friends up for snuggles <3

Dermatillomania is a condition that is for those of us that were meant to have wings to preen.
Humanoids with wings: feather edition
(Description: a digital painting of my own character morianten. He is a young man with warm tan skin and large feathery wings plus a matching tail, sitting on a rock. His wings and tail are light blue on the inside and dark green on the outside, with black and beige stripes respectively. He also has two longer feathers on his tail, soft fold feathers on his back, and more feathers all over his body, arms, and face, including feather-like hair pulled into a ponytail.)
This is just a brief introduction post because oh man I have a lot of thoughts on this subject and it is taking a while to organize them concisely.
I love drawing wings on people but the anatomy sure can be frustrating. Where do the arms go so they're not in the way of the wings? Where is the best placement for the wings? How would that skeleton and musculature look? Maybe not necessarily questions everyone asks, but I sure do. Winged people often eend up looking a bit photoshopped, because it's easier to draw a person and then draw wings and not worry too much about how they connect.
But if you want to go into more detail with a realistic appearance, my next series of posts should help. I will discuss how I've modified the skeleton and muscles, as well as some basic explanations on feather structure.
And here are all the posts in this series:

can I get an "ooh... yeah..." from my fellow phantom winged folk who have back problems from carrying them around
Do you think captive hatched birds fear the open sky?
Do they have a concept of being lost, of straying too far from home and not knowing how to get back?
The inside of a house to them is like a home city to us, compared to the vastness of the entire planet.
To fly must also be to fear. Fear of falling, of bad weather, of collisions, of becoming lost.
Moving so quickly, so high in the air, held aloft by only your wings. Knowing hundreds of meters of air stretch between yourself and the earth’s surface.
I recall one time I swam in a lake, keeping myself a few feet above the ground through buoyancy and the movement of my forelimbs, somewhat like flight. Tired, I reached down with my feet to touch the ground, stand up and rest. I found nothing but cold empty water below me. I had unknowingly swum out past the 5ft mark.
The water couldn’t have been more than 7ft deep but it felt like an ocean for that moment. Like an open sky. Like a bird so far out with nowhere to land.
If I could fly in my human body, I would keep to a few meters above the treetops and power lines to get to work, home or the woods. I wouldn’t stray far from civilization, always keeping roads in sight and a phone or gps on hand.
The world seems so large when you can move that high and fast.
I would still love to fly if I could. Soaring over grassy fields and waterlogged marshes, over sprawling cities with a destination in mind. Seeing the glory of the world from above.
