its such an undertaking, plus there like no canonical info to go off of. legit alot of what i know is from one-off lines about "it took 3 days to get to futuria cavern!" and such, how often the gang goes somewhere, and other bits of inferenced info. the most pressing problem, though, is sluterra's geography.
some cavers are UNDERNEATH others. this is the underground. It's hard to decide whether a cavern is next to another, or under/over it.
theres CONFLICTING INFO. the mobile games have a few maps, and from what little map graphs we get from the show, those ALSO don't line up. it seems like going from scratch and deciding geography based on what the characters/plot tells us of the caverns is our best bet, and from there, we decide which mapping is most accurate.
so much work. I'll do it...after i finish shanes get hurt on ao3 tho, everyones been waiting for that lol
memes are fun and relatable and all that, but don't let them discourage you. all of that stuff that doesn't make it into the final product is part of how the final product gets made
[Trixie puts her wedding ring on Junjie’s finger]
Junjie: Wait, does that mean I’m married to Eli?
Eli: Yeah.
Trixie: Sisterhusbands!
Junjie: Sisterwives.
Eli: Okay, I can get down with that.
What are your thoughts about the southern and northern caverns if the show had kept on going? And what would you think they would look like in your perspective?
aye, thanks for the question!
the north and southern caverns....if u mean like as new realms entirely, imma be so real for a second, im not too big on headcanoning other worlds (and oc's either) for slugterra. like i love the creativity, but theres so much in canon to draw from and expand that i feel very, very aimless and antithetical against the show for really giving the idea much thought. the west and the east cover all the caverns of the world for me, and theres already SO MUCH space for headcanon-ing different cultures and characters there, especially in the eastern caverns! not to mention the burning world, which can kinda be as close to real life as we want it to be.
the northern and southern caverns do exist tho - they are the northern and southern caverns of the 2 worlds we know of in the show in my head, and the wikis dont say much about them. They are more barren than the more central caverns due to the extreme temperatures and historically being less of a place to live, and more as a place for researchers (and capitalists?) to explore and study. Tis could also be a hub for the explorer types like Andre from a distant shore, and hunting big creature types (because im sure the less populous creatures we see in the show live in those outskirts, hence why we only see a cyclops in a city center once in the west). I also like the idea of slugterran history from long ago happening there, and it being a bit of a taboo to explore (except for the explorers themselves, who can point to this taboo danger to explain how cool they are and ask for funding) - in my fic We Can Be Saved (WHICH I WILL FINISH) i go into a northern cavern mentioned in one of the mobile games and it was really fun adding slugterra history to Bonny Cavern, webbing the history of boon docs with the shadow clan, the shanes, cave trolls, and humans desperate for a healer.
I havent thought as much about the southern caverns, but I imagine large sentient bugs being more popular there (like the spiders from slug-fu showdown, the cave of which i hc to be in the south), and it being so dangerous that only experienced hunters go there for game. I especially like the detail in slugterra that all the caverns implied to be more southern dont have alot of life and flora - and most notably, a water source. living beings like not traveling for water! and apparently Mr. Saturday is from there, and considering his accent, using a staff, and face paint, maybe there is a secluded cavern of humans down there who live pretty differently! we know the cave trolls and moles have some different clans, i can see a slugterra where most humans banded together, but one or 2 caverns stayed pretty tight-knit and away from broad society, mainly the ones on the frays near the end of the world/shadow clan territory (that dont provide mining/exploration oppurtunnity for the main culture, of course, like the king of sling's cavern). I also like the idea of there being less roads in the north and south, due to the cave trolls knowing less about the inhabitants there and not making deals to pave their caverns, so naturally the average slugterran citizen won't off-road to these places without very good reason.
and mostly, i think there'd be more shane and shadow clan secrets, especially in the northeast edge of the map. theres a reason the king of sling and the town there is sparse, but very much alive. i can totally see there being a shane hideout nearby.
also? none of any of this applies to the eastern north and south caverns. from what little we saw, the eastern shadow clan actually is okay with other species's, and the groups are more integrated, which means that the cultures on the fringes of their map may be anything from spiritually relevant caverns to just regular cities with roads and relations to the rest of their world. no matter what hc's i'd go with, i'd want to keep this contrast, as i think this really highlights what slugterra is good at - implicitely making the shanes and their world an incredibly sketcky topic if you think and compare it to other places for too long.
So, if yall pay attention (not that I expect anyone to)
I like to do a whimsy tag:
I want to explain it a bit because asks are still disabled and i don't have enough spoons to turn it back on.
The whole point of being a writer/part of fandom in general is COMMUNITY.
Like we're all part of a larger community and that means showing up for people even if its not your thing, even if its not your ship/fandom but someone you follow/are friends with made with care and love.
Share their art, share their fics, share their shit.
If we want to see the change in the community we got to start somewhere.
There are variations to this that I do use:
Its whimsy.
Add your own to posts but please just start sharing others works. Because the only way we keep community alive is start participating in it again.
Fuck feel free to use and adapt mine idc, I just started doing it to start helping my friends works because as an artist it's disheartening to see so many quit because the lack of engagement.
You're on the engagement website start doing your part.
more proof
HC: certified doctors in Slugterra have to pass an upper body physical test purely because in order to treat cave trolls they must be able to treat them without need of helpers - without being hindered by lack of arm strength.
You think different species like cave trolls and humans need different means of cpr? Pronto hears thru his nose and has his heart in his butt so I assume that's def different, humans are smaller than cave trolls so do cave trolls only use one hand for adults like how humans do for human childern cause of their pure strength? The list goes on
I would think so!
Humans already need different CPR. Till age 8, you perform CPR ment for kids on children, and after 8, you perform adult CPR.
Child CPR has you delivering 5 hard open palm blows to the back, followed by a two finger chest compreshion, while they are angled downward at like 45°, you already have to use one hand on a kid.
For adults (8 and above-weird, i know, but that's what I was taught-) you do regular CPR, and if needed/available, you bust out the AED
The AED will periodically shock the system to stimulate the body and tell whether or not the heart has started again. It will guide you through the motions and even has a button to switch to child mode to give instructions on providing CPR to a child.
There is also the fact other devices, like a oxygen mask might be in play as well depending on the situation.
With that in mind, and the fact that different species have different overall biology, it would make sense that there are different protocols when giving CPR to different residents of the Caverns.
Humans are straightforward, but for a Cave Troll to give a human CPR they would have to dile back their strength, CPR already risks the braking of ribs as is. Same when it comes to Elf's, they are humanoid, and Moleinoids, and their weird ass biology.
Whoever a Cave Troll must tend to medically that isn't another Cave Troll, they would have to be very mindful of their strength. So yeah, I would agree/assume they only use one hand when dealing with someone that isn't their own kind
As for a Human, Elf or Moleinoids preforming CPR on a Cave Troll, they would have to use as much strength and they could, or find another Cave Troll.
I would bet there are different AED devices made for the different types of residents of the Caverns, the Cave Troll one delivering more of a shock than the one for Humans, Elf's and Moleinoids.
And you know what? Let's take it up a notch and include slugs. Hypothetically speaking, if a slug here to need CPR, i would think it would follow the child rules, two finger chest compreshions and a blow to the back. Probably with not as much power, since they are so small.
HOLY SHIT WE FOUND IT GO SEE THE POST LADS THEY FOUND OMFG OMFG OMFG-
THE GREATEST ARCHEOLOGIST OF OUR TIME!!!!
I'm a tad apologist. I love the HELL out of Tad being Blakk's kid because a)it adds some damn horrifying context to will Shane and Blakk's history (how he know about the surface, was he up there???) and b) It thematically makes the blakk family feel like a threat to the Shane LEGACY, not just to two Shane's of 2 eras. let's be so honest - Tad just needed more time. Like, imaging if the show ended after ghoul from beyond? We'd all have much of the same complaints about Junjie and the eastern caverns, knowing little about them as they effect everything of the lore we've learned up till that point. But then they spend some wonderful 30+ eps on the topic and hey, Junjie is now everyone's wife. So...
yeah I think if they had more time, we would've gotten so much of the surface talk, and it would have pushed Eli's character by miles.
It’s so strange to think that like…on an inherent level Tad and Eli would understand each other better than anyone else in slugterra regardless of their surface experiences or whether they like each other. I know they’re probably from the same area, but even in the off chance/AU where they aren’t, large cultural phenomena are going to be shared (e.g. memes, movies, tv shows, music, pop culture in general) as well as general information (I kinda headcannon that things like the age of the earth are unknown/miscalculated just because they don’t have rocks from 4 billion years ago to date, they don’t have fossils from the Cambrian explosion etc. You can know everything about gravity and light and physics but know nothing about biology just because it’s more physical evidence based than mathematical recreation) and finally shared experiences (similar school systems, being allowed to do x at y age etc).
I know a lot of the fandom don’t like tad for various reasons, but there’s so much to work with in terms of Eli finally having someone he can just say shit like “do you think the king of sling would like Elvis music?” And just be UNDERSTOOD. Being understood would probably heal something in Eli’s soul because he just hasn’t had that in YEARS. The gang are nice and well meaning, but the whole slugmas episode made it really clear they don’t share the same culture or experiences as Eli, on some level, they genuinely can’t understand or relate to him because of that. They’re his friends, they’re his family, but they’re not the same.
Idk man, something about the one person who could truly know you on a level others can’t just does something to me
I don't think it's strange at all. In fact, it adds a strange, yet sad, i wana say charm? When you go back as re-watch the show with this kind of context and mindset.
Eli, to us, acts rather normal and makes references to things we get on occasion, but compared to everyone else in cannon, it's weird and doesn't make sense.
There has been more than one occasion in the early episodes when Eli says something the others give him an odd look. For instance, Eli mentioned Halloween in DeadWeed, and because Slugterra doesn't have a Halloween/anything equal to it, it's a weird thing to say, and Eli has to lie about it.
For an entire year, even after telling the Gang about the Surface, Eli Shane basically has to keep a part of himself locked away. Sure he can talk to the rest of the team about his home up top, but it's not the same as actually talking to someone about something familiar.
Slugterra may be his home now, but it will never change the fact he used to belong topside, and that try as he might, there are going to be things he misses.
So when Tad comes along, it's not just a new friend, or member, it's a connection to a world he cut himself off from. And Eli is so excited by notion of having someone to talk to, that he can relate to on a more personal level. Talk about holidays, sports, video games ect-
But a sad fact to that is that Eli has been gone a year, which means Tad is going to bring up things he had no idea even happen in the year he's been in Slugterra.
So, while it's awesome to talk to someone who can truly understand you, it doesn't change the fact that there is a disparage in common information or even interests, for that matter!
A lot can happen in 12 months. And while people can live on the same block, they experience things differently.
It doesn't change the fact that Eli is genuinely happy to have Tad around and a part of the gang because he gets to talk to someone like him and share his experiences. Form a different kind of bond.
This is why it probably hurts even more when Tad betrayed the Shane Gang when compared to Twist.
