Okay Guys This Is Kinda Important. GQ Just Came In The Mail And For The First Time In A Long While It

Okay guys this is kinda important. GQ just came in the mail and for the first time in a long while it had a really important article…

I just sat here for like the last half hour reading this and I’m incredibly appalled at our justice system in regards to the military. The article interviews about 23 men who have all been sexually assaulted in some branch of the military. The PTSD from sexual assault in the military is more prevalent than PTSD from combat…

If you have a chance I suggest reading this article…and the title is a quote that one of the victims Doctor told him…

It wouldn’t be a very big difference, but it would be a difference.

Attacking someone for not dating you is saying that it is your right to control their actions.

Attacking someone you are dating depends on the circumstance. From the list above, it seems like the biggest reason is infidelity, which is saying that your right to faithfulness is greater than someone’s right to life. It’s also more centered around forcing someone into not doing something than forcing someone into doing something.

Attacking your ex again depends on the circumstances. Infidelity would be basically the same, but attacking someone for breaking up with you is probably more like the first case.

There’s also the fact that there tends to be a greater connection between partners than between one person asking the other out.

Again, these things are similar, and I’m not saying they’re not. I’m just saying that there is a distinction, though the distinction is not the most important part of this post.

Yes, it is true that many of them involved relationships. However, there is a subtle difference between attacking someone for not dating you, attacking someone who is dating you, and attacking your ex.

Nevertheless, you’re absolutely right that all of these are terrible and that stereotyping women as less violent than men only makes things worse.

This is fascinating. I kind of wonder why these don’t tend to get as much coverage as murders by men. My first instinct is gender stereotyping, but I’m not sure if the answer is that simple.

I will note that most of these are not related to rejecting romantic advances, which was the point made by the original poster; nevertheless, that doesn’t mean they aren’t a problem.

621. There was once a muggleborn witch who never knew that she wasn’t alone in the world. She taught herself how to control the power that sparked at her fingertips, how to bend it to her will and rearrange her life. After months, years of experimenting, she could brew luck, bottle death, conjure dreams, and conquer fear. When someone finally brought her into the fold, she became heralded as the most brilliant witch in wizarding history; Rowena Ravenclaw.

Roller Derby is the most amazing sport I have ever been a part of.

New players are enthusiastically welcomed and made to feel a part of the community.

The community is incredibly accepting of LGBTQIA+ people.

Everyone actually uses your pronouns for you.

If you have to correct someone on your pronouns, they’ll start using correct ones.

Derby is the first place where I met openly LGBTQIA+ people my own age.

The local adult league has an all-gender restroom at all of their bouts.

It’s also full of feminists.

It basically includes everyone.

If you don’t want to play contact, you don’t have to! Everyone gets to learn at their own pace.

Basically it’s an incredibly inclusive and welcoming environment.

Roller Derby

Okay, story time, folks.

So I’m in a junior roller derby league (to young to be in the full on ones), been playing for six years, non skating official one year. And holy crap, I can’t even express the love.

Today, during half time, the part of the league that wasn’t drinking water was discussing gender, BDSM and how horrible 50 shades was and how it wasn’t BDSM, it was rape. We talked about abusive relationships, and the people who were less educated on anything just asked questions. RESPECTFULLY.

Everyone tries their hardest to understand everyone. All of the games for our states big league is translated into sign language (explaining the rules and such) so deaf individuals can understand the commentary.

The policies for the game are made to particularly protect women, people with special needs (sensory issues, hearing, processing, so on) and trans people. There’s a huge, and I do mean HUGE LGBT presence in derby. Heck, two of my trainers (I’m only a stand in coach, but I guess I would count as the third?) are Genderless, most all of my teammates are bi, pan, trans, gay, or questioning.

The newer people are always cheered for and aren’t ever belittled, and are set to learn at their own pace.

Religion isn’t ever a big deal.

One of the whole things about derby is to stop slut shaming and sex shaming so it’s always really open, but in a okay manner I guess (hard to explain?!), so it doesn’t feel violating, just open and happy. But slut shaming is never a thing.

Every person has a story behind their derby name, and their derby name is an identity.

Roller Derby is freaking rad and I love it. I love our community. I love everything about it.

Ppsssst you should too maybe

So here’s the thing. Yes, there are some strong female characters in video games. But the existence of a few is not the same thing as full representation. To quote a study of video game magazines (yes, I know that the magazines are not the same as the games themselves, but this is what I’ve found so far)(x), “The ratio of male (360) to female (119) video game characters was about 3 to 1.” . In addition, “ A content analysis of images of video game characters from top-selling American gaming magazines showed male characters (83%) are more likely than female characters (62%) to be portrayed as aggressive. Female characters are more likely than male characters to be portrayed as sexualized (60% versus 1%), scantily clad (39% versus 8%) and as showing a mix of sex and aggression (39 versus 1%).” In addition, another study (x) suggested that playing as a sexualized video game character meant that “ Female self-efficacy was negatively affected.”

Female Characters in Videogames... debunking a myth
It's time to brush aside the oft regurgitated myth that strong female leads in videogames are and have always been nonexistent or relegated to background or ...

Damn… regardless of where we fall in this debate, this is some damn good work. I am thoroughly impressed.

AU where Dumbledore’s Army uses the Chamber of Secrets instead of the Room of Requirement

Ultimate security as Harry is the only one capable of opening it.

Myrtle proudly spending her time acting as a guard/lookout.

Later, Harry diligently teaching Ron, Hermione, and a few choice others, like Neville, how to mimic parseltongue so that they can open it too.

Muggleborns experiencing vicious satisfaction that they’re using this chamber as a place of education and defense, reclaiming the very space Slytherin built to rid the school of their presence.

Hermione methodically dismantling the basilisk’s corpse, covertly selling the priceless ingredients to potion masters, using the funds to continue their work - buying books and battle robes and new wands for those who can’t afford it.

(Hermione saving a portion of those ingredients for her own research, straightening in triumph when she learns what basilisk venom does to horcruxes, knowing she has vials of it hidden up in her room).

Harry reverently adding the Chamber of Secrets to the Marauder’s Map, proudly continuing his family’s work and reveling in the difference they’re making.

These students - these kids - choosing to train in a dark, horrifying place that was never meant for them. Learning spells amongst shadows, growing stronger in inches of murky water, the smell of a decomposing corpse in their noses, memories of all that had happened here haunting them. They know this is what war is really like and it helps to push them forward.

Binary Gendered Language Is One Of Those Things That Often Goes Unnoticed Even At Churches That Are Trying

Binary gendered language is one of those things that often goes unnoticed even at churches that are trying to be LGBTQ inclusive. Breaking the binary is a simple change that can make a difference.

How might you incorporate this language into your prayers, sermons, and church activities?

hey there LGBTQ kids who are also Christian/Jewish! If you feel like you’re disobeying God, questioning your faith, or feel wrong and dirty for loving who you love, there’s this fantastic site I found today called hoperemains that accurately and thoroughly combs through scripture and its (many) mistranslations, validates your orientation, and basically let’s you know that you’re not pissing off God. It’s insanely thorough and after reading through every page on the entire site it’s super helpful. Go check it out!

Hiiii!!! Can you do muggle born Slytherins headcannons? I'd really appreciate it! :D love everything about your blog, btw!

Pretentious Pureblood here oops

Muggle born slytherins who bring pens and notebooks to school and the purebloods are infinitely curious but wont ask. (Every descendant of the malfoys ask. Every single one of them)

Muggleborns using memes in every conversation with the purebloods because why not

they almost create two little groups, the muggleborns and the purebloods, until Scorpius decides to drop by and physically pushing the two groups together. (it was a hilarious sight, as the purebloods were physically resisting and the muggle borns just encircled the more pretentious ones in hugs that the purebloods were sure would give them some sort of muggle illness.)

Eventually they form this huge group, muggleborns indistiguishable from the purebloods, and they have inside jokes and share those weird ‘pen’ things and even some of the purebloods take to using notebooks instead of parchment (if asked, they either ignore you or shrug and say that its convenient)

-Mod Cas who has feelings about Slytherin house and needs a Slytherin friend.
