You can't really say for all of American students how much homework they get, I'd also rephrase that bc it sounds like you're saying they're at fault for doing what kids do which is explore their world and learn through social interactions. Today it includes social media and Netflix and it may not be the best use of their time but most teens can't function the same way as adults.

Right, that’s why I tried to qualify it by saying “at most schools.” My school is known for giving a lot of homework, and that’s largely what I’m basing my observations off of since I don’t spend that much time with people at other schools. (Other American high school students are welcome to chime in here! I don’t claim to speak for everyone.)

You may be right that it sounds like I’m blaming them. If you have suggestions for rephrasing feel free to send me them.

Here, have some recommendations of Advanced Gay literature!

1. Fires of the Faithful/ Turning the Storm by Naomi Kritzer. This duet is mostly a fantasy novel; the protagonist is also lesbian. There are some religious themes, but the protagonist could probably best be described as agnostic-ish. You can find the first one on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Fires-Faithful-Naomi-Kritzer/dp/0553585177

2. Proxy by Alex London. I’m not sure if it quite qualifies as Advanced Gay literature, as homophobia still exists in that universe and negatively affects one of the two protagonists, who is gay. I’m granting it a spot on the list mostly because the main problems are not the result of homophobia. It’s on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Proxy-Alex-London/dp/014751133X

3. The Just City by Jo Walton. This book is about a group of people trying to set up Plato’s Republic. If you don’t like philosophy, you’ll probably find it boring, but if you do, especially Plato’s works, you might like it. Several characters are mentioned to be in relationships with people of the same gender. Although sexual attraction to anyone is discouraged, this isn’t applied any more harshly to the same-gender-attracted characters. I will warn you that there are a few rape scenes, so if that bothers you you should probably stay away. It’s on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Just-City-Thessaly-Jo-Walton/dp/0765332663

Those are just the first few to come to mind; if you want more recommendations message me.

tfw you pick up a Gay Novel TM at the library but upon reading it discover its all about being gay and how hard tm it is but you already graduated this level of beginners gay and youre mad bc you cant find Advanced Gay literature

Okay, muggleborn headcannons are adorable. But can we take a moment to appreciate their poor parents?

Desperately trying to find a book about how to raise your kid who is all of a sudden a witch/wizard.

Trying to explain to the neighbors why your kid suddenly has an owl/toad for a pet and spends an excessive amount of time polishing that ancient broom out on the back porch.

Debating if it’s better to try and wash robes in the sink or just risk taking them to the laundromat.

Having to clean out their trunks when they get home from school because Merlin knows what the hell you will find in there.

Trying to keep any younger siblings from telling random strangers on the street that their big brother/sister is a wizard/witch.

Showing up to Diagon Alley for the first time and holy shit what the hell is all of this honey please make a friend with witch/wizard parents so they can tell us what to do.

Galleons? Knuts?

WHY IS YOUR TEXTBOOK TRYING TO ATTACK ME?!

Trying to explain to grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins why they can’t attend visitors day at the child’s new boarding school.

Having to come up with a whole new system of rules to deal with anything magical.

Standing awkwardly outside platform 9 ¾ and waiting for another wizarding family to show them what to do.

Learning that the main wizard sport, which your child is determined to participate in, involves riding around on a thin little stick a hundred or more feet in the air while moving at excessive speeds.

Getting letters from your kid after their first night demanding you come pick them up because there is no wifi and THEY SAID IF WE WENT TO THE FOURTH FLOOR WE WOULD DIE.

Seriously. Muggle Parents of Witches/Wizards are adorable. I just have this picture of them rushing out to Diagon Alley after the representative from whatever school visits them to tell them about their kid and they just buy every book they can get their hands on to figure out what the hell they’re supposed to do now.

What were your poems about? You’ve gotten me curious.

My English teacher apologetically told me my poems were to controversial to tell in class (we’re in the poetry unit right now) and I can’t tell if I should be proud, concerned, or miffed.

FUCKING NASA

I’m fucking pissing myself. You know how all of Jupiter’s moons are named after his lovers and affairs? Yeah. NASA is sending a craft to check up on Jupiter. You know what the craft is called?

JUNO.

Who’s Juno?

JUPITER’S WIFE.

NASA IS SENDING JUPITER’S WIFE TO CHECK ON JUPITER AND HIS AFFAIRS AND LOVERS.

FUCKING NASA

I think that a lot of parents prefer their teenagers having cell phones to them not having cell phones, because it makes it easier to coordinate lots of things (pick-up time from events, meeting location, “can you pick up [x] while you’re at the store, etc.). Especially given the number of teenagers who rely on their parents for transportation, teenagers not having cell phones is inconvenient for the parents, not just the teenagers.

I think some adults are bothered by teenagers using their cell phones for social media, and/or during in-person social events? Some of the people complaining about teenagers using cell phones are also older than the parents of current teenagers.

why dont phones have little tiny laser pointers built in
