EDIT: just found out from a comment that this is bad art conservation practice :(
Thanks @moripartylove for setting me straight
I always smile when I see these types of videos, especially because of where they start. When lifting the veil of time, where to begin? The corner? The exact middle? No, the faces. Show us the smiles, the blush, the eyes. Pull back the shades on a soul-window hundreds of years distant.
It also takes art to restore old paintings that look like scabs...
A fantastic point! Never made the connection to the real world 'everyman' duelist, but it makes so much sense.
Although I did always think it was hilarious that in a universe where chance outcomes can be demonstrably affected by circumstances (morality, determination, rule of cool...), a guy with neither destiny nor money on his side pulled ahead of the competition by *building a deck around gambling.*
big fan of how much of a bitch he is
Ok but this reads like the last log of a doomed voyage, I swear.
Spock Must Die? Of all ST books?! On the plus side, you won't have to worry about 'mistakenly' taking something as racist.
XD
Set out to read all (I know it's HUNDREDS) of the published Star Trek novels as a new hobby/reading challenge.
Started with Mission to Horatius by Mack Reynolds. Needless to say, it was... fascinating (?). There were some pretty backwards and outright racist themes throughout the book. Which kind of (not really) makes sense, as it was written in 1968. (I mean come on, why are we comparing Spock's physical features to satan? Multiple times?! Or, do I 'mistakenly' take it as racist because I'm naturally quick to think that Spock is Jewish coded because of Nimoy's portrayal? OR. MAYBE. We just don't characterize nice aliens as satanic?) I also didn't much enjoy the characterization of Jim. He didn't have the same compassion and empathy that I'm used to seeing in shows/movies and reading in fanfiction.
Also, while the United Federation of Planets ‘isn't a military entity' it's heavily written like one in this novel. Which goes to show the lack of radical and imaginative thinking of what a universe 'without social issues' would be. Even if that’s in a far off future where such issues are ‘outdated’.
Besides that, Bones, they could never make me hate you. The most sensible person inside that damn tin can. The Enterprise is toast without its good ol' country doctor ❤️
I'm excited to read the other novels written by the different authors though! It's neat to see the varying interpretations of this universe and its characters! Next on the list is, Spock Must Die!
I thought I would make a masterpost for my "I Can't Believe It's Not Fanon" (otherwise known as..."facts that sound like Geraskier fic writers made them up but are, in fact, book canon") series.
I will add to this post, so rb it and keep an eye on it. I have at least one more big post coming up.
Geralt rescuing Dandelion from kidnappers (and slaughtering and threatening a bunch of people for him)
Geralt plays it cool, but secretly loves Dandelion's singing
Geralt and Dandelion Domesticity (sharing beds and clothing)
Geralt and Dandelion Domesticity (pooling money and Dandelion bullying racists)
Geralt is Dandelion's specialest boy (Dandelion defending Geralt)
Dandelion is Geralt's Most Important Damsel (Geralt defending Dandelion)
Geralt and Dandelion patching up each other's wounds
Geralt learning Dandelion's real name
Sweet quiet moment of Geralt asking Dandelion's advice (and Dandy begging him not to kill a dragon)
A doppler turns into Dandelion to protect itself from Geralt and it gets more interesting from there.
So the tag is I Can't Believe It's Not Fanon, and I also do a series called Canon or Fanon in response to asks. But since the tag system on tumblr isn't great, there are the biggies. Just thought I'd make it a little easier on you guys.
Dangit I missed the window, gotta catch the next drop. (Never underestimate SH fans, they brought the guy back from the dead and haven't rested since)
WATSON'S SKETCHBOOK VOL 1 is available to purchase! 178 pages of black and white comics, illustrations, and occasional essays on Victorian queerness, covering the Watson's Sketchbook story from A STUDY IN SCARLET through SECOND INTERLUDE. Many of the comics have been updated and cleaned up from their online versions. Also they are signed and I drew a little guy inside!
Somehow the first time I've seen memes about this incredibly meme-able book.
it's bad image friday. when i post bad images (i know he doesn't actually say that btw)
All of these options feel like saying "ampersand" aloud instead of "and."
It wouldn't be wrong, I suppose. "&" is a symbol for that word, and can be called that.
But why???
Thanks, Anon!

My review of this book when I read it was that the only redeeming quality was the clearly unintentional ho-yay XD
Kirk and Spock exchanging rings was not what I excepted to get out of this book but oh my god
Below is probably my favorite exchange; Kirk being pissed he didn't give his ring to the real Spock.
(From the passage above) "...he's wearing my ring, which I would have given to no other man in the universe." Are you fucking kidding me
And finally Spock wishing he could've retrieved Kirk's ring for him.
Also, in case you didn't pick it up from the first passage, Kirk is wearing Spocks ring, and as far as we know he's still fucking wearing it through this last page.
I'd watch this sitcom
They meet at the Secretly Side-Characters Support Group, having all been referred to what they think is a Protagonist Party by well-meaning friends and acquaintances. Hilarity ensues.
A social gathering of dudes who all have serious Main Character Syndrome, but all are wildly different genres. One of them is the "people don't like me because I'm too smart" Misunderstood Genius who isn't actually particularly smart, just mean. Another one thinks he's wisecracking and clever by just talking like a character in a Marvel movie. Third one thinks he's subtly pulling off a mysterious Film Noir vibe by wearing a fedora and spending most of his time internally narrating, and silently staring at people. The fourth one is a deeply dramatic purple prose self-fashioned Byronic Hero who is unaware that he would be a mildly annoying minor antagonist in a Jane Austen novel at best. The fifth one has gotten his entire personality from shounen anime.
I read that appearance for appearance The Human Torch was damsel'd more than any other hero in the original Marvel Universe.
Dude is just SO snatchable.
JOHNNY AS A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS
