Ok But This Reads Like The Last Log Of A Doomed Voyage, I Swear.

Ok but this reads like the last log of a doomed voyage, I swear.

Spock Must Die? Of all ST books?! On the plus side, you won't have to worry about 'mistakenly' taking something as racist.

XD

Set out to read all (I know it's HUNDREDS) of the published Star Trek novels as a new hobby/reading challenge.

Started with Mission to Horatius by Mack Reynolds. Needless to say, it was... fascinating (?). There were some pretty backwards and outright racist themes throughout the book. Which kind of (not really) makes sense, as it was written in 1968. (I mean come on, why are we comparing Spock's physical features to satan? Multiple times?! Or, do I 'mistakenly' take it as racist because I'm naturally quick to think that Spock is Jewish coded because of Nimoy's portrayal? OR. MAYBE. We just don't characterize nice aliens as satanic?) I also didn't much enjoy the characterization of Jim. He didn't have the same compassion and empathy that I'm used to seeing in shows/movies and reading in fanfiction.

Also, while the United Federation of Planets ‘isn't a military entity' it's heavily written like one in this novel. Which goes to show the lack of radical and imaginative thinking of what a universe 'without social issues' would be. Even if that’s in a far off future where such issues are ‘outdated’.

Besides that, Bones, they could never make me hate you. The most sensible person inside that damn tin can. The Enterprise is toast without its good ol' country doctor ❤️

I'm excited to read the other novels written by the different authors though! It's neat to see the varying interpretations of this universe and its characters! Next on the list is, Spock Must Die!

This great news about a great fic! Making art more download friendly is a boon to those who, like me, hoard fanworks like a dragon hoards gems.

Turnabout Dishwasher news (it's not really news, but whatever)

not that this will affect too many people, but I found a way to PDF my text box fics without the PDFs looking like garbage and removing formatting. It sort of works on mobile, but generally this is for people who need to download my fics and read them outside of AO3. And if AO3 or my image hosting site ever goes down, this would be the best way to read it.

I'm going to be making a neocities landing page for all my fic PDFs in the near future, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, I will be re-linking and updating this link on AO3.

This will be where my PDFs will live for now

📚Watson's Sketchbook PREORDER!📚

📚Watson's Sketchbook PREORDER!📚

Hello! In response to ~unprecedented levels of demand~ for print versions of Watson's Sketchbook Volume 1, I'm doing another print run, and will be opening preorders here on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11, at 9:00am PST/12:00 noon EST/5:00pm GMT.

DETAILS:

-This run is much larger than the two previous ones, but still limited, so being prompt is a good idea. Last time it sold out in 2 minutes, I do not think that will happen this time, but...early bird, etc.

-They will take a bit longer to arrive than previous orders, but should arrive for everyone by the end of January 2025, print- and shipping-gods willing. Thanks in advance for your patience, as I'm working with a small press printer and a small local distributor.

-If your address changes before the book ships, you can always send a message to the shop to update it. In general, any messages or questions about shipping should be sent there rather than by reaching out to me on here.

-I'm really hoping this run is large enough so that everyone who wants one can get it! Thank you always for your support of this ridiculous project that has consumed my life (positive) and for your support of independent art and queer art!

Oh my Godddd. The US Army chorus was told to perform at the White House for Trump and his cronies and they chose to perform One Day More from Les Miserables. What a gutsy move. A giant middle finger to authoritarianism right in front of Trump's face. Good for them.

To every member of the military and every civil servant fighting in big ways and small, public and private, to protect the Constitution and uphold the oaths you swore, thank you for your service. We see you and we love you. We're counting on you and we're all behind you 100%. Hold the line.

This made me actually tear up and feel a little hopeful. Everyone, no matter who they are needs to do their part. The Fascists are dangerous but they are few. Together we can all defeat them and keep the freedoms so many have fought so hard for.

Also I am living for these comments!

I always figured her mark was a metaphor for bringing out the beauty in the world.

She finds the diamonds in the rough.

rarity is the pony i most often think of when i think about a cutie mark's tie to a special talent. her cutie mark was gained through finding gemstones and her special talent that sets her apart is finding gemstones. even her cutie mark is diamonds

but she isn't known for that. she isn't a miner or geologist, she uses her gems to propel a passion she already had: fashion. it didn't change who she was or what she loved, but she used her talent to elevate what she already loved. it didn't matter that she didn't have a cutie mark's of thread or needles or a sewing machine. she had her special talent and used it for her art, and that's what she is known for. her art isn't her talent, it's a learned skill. she chooses her art as her destiny.

i love her. it's so neat to me

Don't you just love a cozy little fandom? :D

@professorfoglio replied to your post “y'all about to make me never liveblog girl genius...”:

Hey. The whole purpose of this stuff is to entertain. We tried REALLY HARD to not make the novels have any "spoilers", but, I will confess that they DO contain more information than the comic. It's a different medium. Personally, I get a kick out of your updates. I would say, treat any comments you get like we treat fan fiction: we know its there, but we do not allow ourselves to read it, and assume it's all positive. Good luck!

fallow up question, will the prologue be included in the physical book?

yes. also a secret extra bonus pre-prologue prologue they asked me to write so people would be less confused by the worldbuilding

I actually can't survive without one on my wrist; I have one of those brains that lacks a time sense and it's the only way for me to get my brain to understand where I am in the day. The little numbers exist in a vacuum; they tell me nothing. Notches let me count how far I am from noon and midnight, two states of being my brain understands to exist separate from the nebulous reality of 'past' and 'future.' "It is 3 o'clock" said in a vacuum might as well be "it is Orange pm EST," but if I look at my watch I can see that it is three units of time roughly equal to three 20minute tvshow episodes past noon, halfway until the time designated for dinner, which is halfway to midnight from the time when the sun is directly overhead. This may possibly make me an outlier to the analogue/digital debate, but I do own a watch that has 24 hours as well so there's that.

i'm old enough to have been taught how to read analog clocks in elementary school. i was never good at it. i wore analog watches for years and didn't get much better at it even though i look at my watch several times an hour.

i don't understand why people get so pissed about newer generations ditching analog clocks. am i stupid? what would we be missing out on without them?
