A PR professional just explained to me why they believe Taylor Swift is queer

They're not particularly a fan or a hater. Because of their job, they state that they're probably more exposed to Taylor's PR flow and the details of it than the average GP person, but less than the fans that consume it and go seek it out.

Here's what they think, from a "cool, detached, professional slash transactional standpoint" (quote):

Taylor Swift™ (the brand, which means Taylor and team. Whoever establishes the communication strategies and help build it in concrete visual coding, statements and appearances, etc) is very good at PR. "people that like or dislike the brand agree on that. Hell, that's the main reason many point out for their dislike. So good it's annoying. So much polished *genuine* that it feels fake".

She's been loud in supporting her causes in the past years. Feminism, acceptance of differences, fighting xenophobia, and loudest of them all, especially lately, her support of the lgbt+ community.

"The difference in the way she's doing it is fundamental." She's been placing herself amongst the queer community as she celebrates it. Repeatedly.

"In PR, there is one thing you can't get away with anymore. It's the I've Got This *** Friend strategy." You can't make yourself look cool and supportive of BLM just by hanging out with a dark skinned person and get ally cred. You will get torn down by backlash. You have to back it up with actions, and you have to shut up about it, so that it doesn't look like you're being supportive of something to get credit for it, that you're doing something good because your interest is how it will be a good reflection on your brand.

"Queer baiting might be a strategy to try to pull audience members and try to save a show, but considering the backlash that ensues, I wouldn't recommend it these days."

So their conclusion is this: Taylor knows much much better than that.

Yet she's being super super loud.

She's putting herself in the middle of it. "She's literally painting herself in it and with it." (in it, the videos, with it, the rainbow dresses and the hair colors)

"She's too smart to make a mistake like making herself the straight ally of the decade. Not this way where she IS being accused of baiting. So I must conclude that... She isn't. She's not baiting. She's messaging. And the message seems pretty darn clear to me."

They would like to add this: "I'm straight. I'm what we're supposed to call middle aged. I don't particularly have an interest or investment on whether Taylor is or isn't queer, on whether she does or does not state it out loud. But working in a world where we spin stories, there are some that we don't like. The ones that cover up a closet rarely end well and always masquerade for someone's misery. Or some ones', plural. I can't deny how big an impact a coming out like hers would have if it's well handled. So. While I don't wish for her to go one way or another, I will be cheering loudly for her if she comes out. From a logical standpoint, I believe she's en route. From a more human one, hell yeah, my Spidey senses are tingling." (pause for giggles and discussion on whether Spidey senses should fall under strictly Human categorizing) "In any case, this little discussion dive into the Swift Tumblr PR Analysis Squad has been hilarious and inspiring. Quarantine life and PR

Hey, Folks! This post is to try to help some people who still find it difficult to see and believe that there are relationships that are PR. And since this is a Kaylor blog (even if it’s not in my header, one day I’ll still update this. I swear!), I’ll pick up our favorite couple to illustrate some PR situations.

Before starting, an important point to note is that Karlie’s social media accounts have long since become an almost exclusively working tool. For those who followed Karlie Sunshine Kloss this is notorious. I don’t even remember the last time I saw a random post of her making funny faces or a silly video of her having real fun with her friends. Posts about herself, Karlie Elizabeth, are very rare. Anyway, nowadays, her IG is basically just work. That is, her posts are made to sell and promote certain products and people… like, KWK, IMG models, Jerk, Adidas, Estée Lauder…

Taylor in Quarantine:

1) Taylor said she started working in folklore when “they” (she and WB, she hinted to Apple) were stuck in LA during the lockdown (in California, started on 3/20/20) and that she stayed there for about 4 months. So Tay stayed in LA from late March until, more or less, late July/early August (Rolling Stones magazine).

2) On the day of the release of folklore, Aaron said in his IG that Taylor contacted him to work together in late April, and the next day (04/28) sended a cardigan for him (Tay’s IG “Not a lot going on at the moment”-04/27).

3) The lockdown was relaxed in California on 5/18. (x)

4) And even after the reopening of California, according to the dialogue between Tay and Jack during TLPSS (and Aaron in RS), folklore was recorded/finished when Tay was still in LA, at the “Kitty Committee Studio” aka the house her in LA. And only after the album was released did Taylor join the rest of the folklore family in Hudson Valley/NY, around the beginning of August (see item 1).

5) It was probably in the period between August-October that Taylor went to the UK. Period when the piano part of song evermore was recorded (if KK’s WB, she may have accompanied Tay, after all she spent most of the year using latergram, mainly after May), and when Tay made the video for GMA in the studio Marcus Mumford and also when she was papped with JA (I’m almost 100% sure). Why do I believe Taylor did all this in London, including the papped (published in 01/16/21), in 2020? Because London only relaxed the lockdown between June and October. In November the country started its second lockdown. And in the middle of December, there was an increase in the restrictions measures and there was a specific rule in effect that: “only one person from one household can find a person from another household, in a public and open space”. I don’t remember if this rule was already valid in November, but apparently it was. And as the “couple in love” lives “together” and in a “place of the two of them”, that Tay walk with the “mother-in-law” and JA could not have happened, since in January, once again the isolation measures were hardened, and in the 01/05, UK had started the third lockdown. During the period of November and until today, if I am not wrong, the restriction measures have only increased. That is, the papped is a latergram! (Sorry, Toe. Lie! I’m not sorry, “no, no, no, no”. Lol).

Could Taylor break through the block and pay a £ 200 fine? Of course, she’s a millionaire. But I think it is unlikely that she will do that, since she herself spoke of her displeasure at the inconsequence of people not respecting isolation. Not to mention the headache that Tree would have with the tabloids if she was caught breaking through the quarantine. Don’t forget, Taylor is terrified of bad publicity.

Tay’s PR was done after she avoided seeing the face of “oat milk” as much as possible, apart from their papped, and used the card “WB is my boyfriend” at the Grammy to try to sell the story that, even though he never appeared throughout 2020 with her, even for things related to folklore, they still staid quarantined together. And there is no use trying to justify his disappearance as WB with: “Ah! But they’ve a private relationship and he’s shy”. Okay, I respect both. But the purpose of creating and using a pseudonym for writing is precisely to hide the true author of a work. There’s no sense in them creating WB and a month later revealing their identity, if “Prince Charming” didn’t want to be noticed for that. Do you understand now?! And to make it clear, Taylor only revealed that she was Nils Sjöberg because people noticed her voice in the song, and started talking more about her participation instead of CH or Rihanna. And Calvin, being the asshole he is, started to claim that the success of the song was thanks to him who had created the hit.

Karlie in Quarantine:

1) At the beginning of the pandemic, Karlie was in NY for two months. A period in that cabin, supposedly, she was with Jerk. However, the few times he appeared, I think it was twice in her stories, guess who was with them? Jerk’s husband, Mikey Hess, who, despite being a “new father”, was spending time with them. During that time, some people here even realized that KK used latergram, at least once, while she was supposedly still there; And another period, in the city apartment, where she “lived” with Jerk, however, the only time he appeared with her in the apartment, it was a few days before Kar left NY, when they were papped on the building balcony.

2) Karlie was in California from mid-May to early August. Wait! Almost identical to the period that Taylor was in LA too… this is just a “Koincidence”, right?

3) Last year, on 5/18 (the same day as the relaxation of restrictive measures in California. Other Koincidence!), Kar posted a storie saying she was on her way to West with “Loved ones” (as she was seen days earlier on the porch with Jerk, implying that they were still isolated together, so it’s kind of implied that he went with her to LA). After KK published this post, a curious fact occurred, we had no idea where Tay could be and Kristine/Kimby lived in LA at that time, some here on the fandom still said, “Well, she has two sisters who live there. She may be going to stay with them”. A fair thought. However, on 05/20 Kar posted a video running on the beach and a pic with the Kloss women (#WomanCrushEveryday). A few hours later, Kristine, the sister who lives in LA, reposted KK’s pic and said she missed the sisters. WTH ?? Who did she go to stay with in LA? We were left with only one possibility, Taylor and their children furry and four legs, Mer, Dibles and Benji (The Swift Family!). After that she spent a long time without showing any pictures that she could say where and with whom exactly she was, despite posting a lot about BLM, KWK and old photos.

4) During that time, she showed us that she spent a few days at her parents’ home (Missouri) and most of that time, apparently, in California. I say apparently, because Karlie uses a lot of latergram to not say exactly where she is. For example, in July, she posted stories with KWK students for a few days while she was at the Kloss’ house. And in the middle of these stories, one day, she posted a video of a beach, as if she were on the coast. And Karlie did things like that, often in 2020. Another example, she was papped in NYC in August/September/November, but she was still posting photos and videos from her time in California, as if she were there at the time of post… That’s the incredible advantage of using latergram! She can be anywhere and pretend to be at the opposite end of her real location (Kar can do this easily because she’s a millionaire and learned to do it with the best person at being a ninja, her wife!).

5) Throughout her period in California Karlie had a long time without having to do stunts with Jerk personally, using only photos and videos alone, showing a beautiful house, supposedly hers, as a scenery. She was papped alone only once. Jerk appeared in a pic she posted and they were seen strolling together, all this only at the end of July. To be more exact, they were papped 3 times in those two weeks. And one of those times, were those photos taken in which Kar is wearing a white dress and a pissed off face. I remember reading around here, some people commenting on a girl who had said something like: “Karlie lives near where these pictures were taken. They’ve a house here in the neighborhood”. From what I understood from this conversation, the girl was saying that Jerk and Karlie own a house in the region. I don’t know who the girl was. In fact, I don’t even remember the blog where I read about it and much less do I know if this girl really existed or if it was all made up, the girl and the story (if someone saw this story and can share what/where it was, you don’t need to tag anyone and no blog, just share here how the story went). But even if neither the comment nor the girl is real, there’s someone else who hinted that Karlie had a house in California, one of her sisters.

After reading her sister’s comment, what does Kristine induce us to think? That this is the new kitchen at Karlie and Jerk’s house in California, right?! Okay!

Some around here have seen these photos and know where the house where Karlie spent a few days is, but for those who have not seen it yet, here is the link to two different sites of the same house. (x) (x) After I say all this, you must be asking yourself: “But where is the PR done by Joshlie 🤮?”. The PR was made through the suggestion that they both went to spend time in California together, in the photos that Karlie took in supposed “their new kitchen”, in the various photos and videos that KK took in supposed “their home” and in the papped of joshlie.

Now pretend for a moment that you never heard of Kaylor and that Jerk is not a disgusting person, okay?! If you had seen only what Karlie did in that last paragraph, you probably wouldn’t even look at this situation twice. You would just say, “Look! Karlie Kloss spent a season with her husband in California. Nice! Good for them.” Right?

Now, after you have seen Kar’s photo in the kitchen and looked at the photos of “Joshlie’s house” on both sites (Go look!), I will introduce to some, Misha Nonoo, the supposed woman (beard) of Mikey Hess (Jerk’s husband), at her home in California.

Did you notice anything in common in the pictures of both?

Look at the dates of the IG photos, in addition to overlapping the date of the photos, all photos were taken in the same house!

Kristine hinted that the house belongs to Karlie, but Misha claims that it belongs to her. WHAT?!

And the most interesting thing is not even trying to find out who the house belongs to. It does not matter! The real million-dollar question is: If Karlie is truly married to Jerk, and she just had “his” son and, according to many, is living her best life alongside the man “she chose instead of Taylor”, why did Karlie spend part of her time in California pretending to be just with Jerk, at “their house”, when in fact she was just covering up the time that Jerk and his husband were spending together hiding in that house in California? Or maybe, both guys weren’t even in LA, just their beards doing most of the dirty work, and they showed up after, only a few days, to do a photo or two to make people think they were there all the time (what’s typical of Jerk!).

To be more clear, if joshlie was real, Karlie would just have to share some quiet moments of the “couple in love” in his real house (and not pretend to be the owner of a house, even if the house was rented), or pictures of them having fun while sharing the house with the “couple of longtime friends”. It would be okay to show your “friends” if they were just that. But in this particular case, this cannot happen because there have been rumors for years that Jerk is married to Mikey Hess. Right here on tumblr there were pictures with Jerk’s personal data showing that he was already married even before “engaged” with Karlie, while her personal data showed that she was single.

Were you able to understand the PR here? Both beards, Karlie and Misha, tried to show some “intimate” moments during the quarantine, at “their” home. Too bad that because of these photos, Kar’s almost brilliant work went downhill because of some posts from the beard of Jerk’s husband, Misha.

But it was worth a try, Kar! Maybe next time, girl. 😉

P.s.: Do you know an interesting detail? While in California, Karlie appeared in a video, in front of a glass door that does not match either the frames of the supposed “her house” in a Mediterranean style, nor the doors of the Kloss house. Whose house is this, Karlie Kloss?

Cowboy Like Me

Howdy partner! this song is clearly a reference to Taylors roots in country music - but it goes deeper than that. It’s about Karlie, and how both girls have built their careers off of selling the idea of love, karlie through modeling and Taylor through songwriting. Both are super ambitious and focused, playing the game and driving their careers forward, but have rags (ok - not rags, but upper middle class normalcy) to riches stories, which makes them feel like the don’t quite belong in the celeb world.

And the tennis court was covered up

Several people have noticed that this could be a reference to Tennis Court by Lorde. The last time Kaylor was seen together was the below pic at Lorde’s bday. Reading the lyrics to Tennis Court, it almost seems like the same setting as CBM. Lorde’s song explores the dark side of fame, talking about not fitting in and being surrounded by superficial fame. She says “let’s go down to the tennis courts to talk it out” and then we have CBLM that starts in the middle of a sentence with “and”, and takes place at the tennis court, where the cowboys are trying to impress the rich folks, almost as if the songs are sequential.

With some tent-like thing

Here we’re already getting the theme of not belonging somewhere. Taylor doesn’t say canopy - which is what she is referring to and actually would fit both in terms of syllables and rhyme scheme - she says “tent-like thing” which is both dismissive of her surroundings and tells us that maybe she doesn’t quite know the right word for them.

And you asked me to dance

Let’s just take a moment to remember that 1) Karlie is a dancer and 2) kaylor started at vsfs2013 where they danced on stage together like this:

But I said, “Dancing is a dangerous game”

This references DWOHT -  which is the ultimate Kaylor song and is all about dancing even though its dangerous, like in the lyrics “can we dance through an avalanche?”, “Swaying as the room burned down”, etc. 

Oh, I thought This is gonna be one of those things

There’s a song called Just One Of Those Things by Nat Porter that you can listen to here, and it seems like Tay is referencing it here. The song lists great loves (ex. Romeo & Juliet) being cast aside and belittled as “one of those things”. This reminds me of people saying that being gay is a “phase” in order to devalue it. Specifically one line in Just One Of Those Things really makes me think about Kaylor - “If we’d thought a bit, of the end of it When we started painting the town We’d have been aware that our love affair Was too hot, not to cool down”. It expresses how they were so loud while glass closeting and had so much chemistry that they couldn’t just tone it down they had to go completely dark in order to keep closeting.

Now I know I’m never gonna love again

In many ways this references the theme of “right where you left me”, Taylor can’t move on because she fell too hard for Karlie and no love will ever compare.

Taylor sees a lot of herself in Karlie. They know how to play the same games in terms of their careers and bearding, but because of this they understand each others vulnerabilities, etc.

Never wanted love Just a fancy car

They weren’t looking for love when they met, they were both just in the place they were because they were trying to advance their careers. However, as Tay has talked about before, the lure or riches and fancy cars isn’t enough to satisfy her. It also references this line in King Of My Heart, where Tay literally says that all the boys aren’t as good as her lover (Karlie) is.

also:

Both Karlie and Taylor have built their careers off of selling the idea of love - Taylor through her music and Karlie through her modeling, especially with Victoria’s Secret. Both of them are capitalizing and cashing in on romance. They play the game of love to be valuable to the record labels, fashion brands, and industry overall, getting the “rich people” in the industry to invest in them and their careers. However, both are caught off guard when they encounter the real thing and actually fall in love.

You’re a bandit like me Eyes full of stars

Taylor talks about eyes a lot, but I think this has two meanings. 1 - both of their eyes are full of stars because they are surrounded by other celebs and so they are literally seeing stars all the time. 2 - the more conventional meaning would be that their eyes are bright and beautiful.

It also references two songs that are very much about Karlie: “Starry eyes sparkin’ up my darkest night” in Call It What You Want, and “The stars in your eyes shined brighter in Tupelo” in Dorothea.

Hustling for the good life

Again, Taylor brings attention to the fact that they are both really career focused and trying really hard to be as successful as possible. They don’t have the same type of fallbacks that celebs with famous parents and old money have.

Here Taylor knows that she’ll pay for her relationship with karlie in two ways, 1- she’s paying for it in that by falling in love and pursuing a relationship she’s on the “treacherous” road making her life much more complicated given that she’s choosing not to come out, 2- she is literally paying for beards so she can have a public muse for her relationship songs.

And the skeletons in both our closets

Plotted hard to fuck this up

Here Tay is talking about closets again. This actually makes me think of two meanings. 

1- it makes me think of the “skin and bones” line in treacherous (maybe because I was just talking about that song) and how tay has used that type of language to talk about her and her lover in the past. The skeletons in the closet could be a reference to the past karlie and Taylor being in the closet, when they were both really thin and Taylor was battling her eating disorder. In the past they were plotting so hard to cover their tracks and stay in the closet, which eventually messed everything up for them. 

2 - The more obvious interpretation is that the skeletons in the closet are the people who were controlling their careers, who they have now moved away from, like SB2. These people messed things up by keeping them in the closet.

And the old men that I’ve swindled

Both karlie and tay have had careers that were mostly controlled by men who are older than them - VS CMO Ed razek, SB2, etc. These men thought that they were controlling kaylors careers, but kaylor is individually profiting as well.

Really did believe I was the one

This references The One, the first track on folklore.

And the ladies lunching have their stories about When you passed through town

Karlie has quite the rep for making people fall in love with her quite easily (see the klossanova video that @theprologues​ made here). 

But that was all before I locked it down

Love locked down! for more details check out this post and this one, but basically Karlie posted and image with the caption “love locked down” on March 6, 2016, on the same day Taylor posted “one year down” with the picture of a locket. This was one year after their Vogue cover came out in March 2015. Because of this, it seems like they were celebrating their anniversary some sort. Hence the line “I locked it down”. 

Now you hang from my lips Like the Gardens of Babylon

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon is one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world, known as very beautiful and an incredible feat in engineering (beauty + engineering are both things that describe karlie!). However, archeologists are unable to find proof of their location - therefore it’s unclear if the gardens “were an actual construction or a poetic creation”. 

With your boots beneath my bed

This is a metaphor for sleeping together and is also referencing cowboy boots.

Forever is the sweetest con

It’s impossible to be with each other forever - when we say forever we know that we will actually be separated by mortality and factors we can’t control. However, Taylor is okay being “conned” with ideas of forever, because it’s understood that they will be with each other as long as possible.

And yet, this also references Hoax - it’s a different way of saying “your faithless love’s the only hoax I believe in”. Leaving us wondering if the love was real or a con.

swifties, gaylor, & homophobia

here goes...

i think it’s quite telling that many swifties, including myself, cannot even post something where we mention that we often find queer themes/subtexts in taylor’s music with tags that other swifties use. when i use #taylorswift, i am bombarded by crowds of fans who tell me i am intrusive and disgusting.

first off, i want to know what the fuck is so disgusting about lesbianism? i want to know why it is permissible for straight swifties* to speak openly about taylor's sex life and not find their behavior encroaching, but the second i mention a lyric that strikes me as sapphic, i am being invasive?

i am not out here screaming TAYLOR SWIFT IS FUCKING GAY IF YOU OBJECT YOU'RE A LOUSY, HOMOPHOBIC BITCH IN DENIAL!!! i am simply pointing out how accurately taylor depicts the queer experience.

the only times i use examples from things in taylor's life that are not her songs are when there are obvious themes/motifs that stem from her music into her interviews, photoshoots, comments, and hidden messages. i interpret lyrics the way i interpret them, you interpret them the way you interpret them. all i am doing is noting queer themes in her songs, songs she puts out for the world to hear and explicate any way we wish.

i am analyzing what she deliberately puts out into the world, not her.

not to mention, she wants us to analyze these songs. she has said so before. she intentionally puts hidden messages in her album booklets, along with dropping hints as to who and what her songs are about.

if she was so uncomfortable with some of us interpreting her music as queer, with some of us interpreting certain things she says and/or uses visuals to represent as queer, don't you think she would say it? it would take mere seconds to log onto twitter and tell us to quit what we are doing. but she doesn't. straight swifties* are so incredibly defensive, and for what?

i see a lot of "well, everyone who interprets her music as gay is gay themselves, they're just projecting 🙄" and of course, i can't speak for everyone, but i know that taylor's music and the way she describes things resonate with queer swifties (myself included) in certain ways because we have experienced the things she describes. we have had to hide who we are, what we want, and who we are with. we relate to songs in which taylor expresses her fear of people finding her out because that is many of our everyday realities.

a lot of what makes many of us flock to any kind of gaylor group is homophobia from other swifties. we are shunned in swiftie spaces for saying things such as "wow, cowboy like me depicts a bearding relationship in hollywood perfectly" or, "as a queer woman, i identify with i know places, it seems like taylor has experienced what i have experienced."

i want to know this: if you are allowed to take taylor's music and apply it to your life, why can't i do the same?

from the way straight swifties* talk, i guess speculation about who she is dating is perfectly acceptable, until that speculation includes her dating a woman?

i don't want to have to stay in a smaller space of swifties, i'd love to interact with larger parts of the fandom. but if you're going to come at me for interpreting music differently than you do, if you are going to be blatantly homophobic, i am going to stick with people who are willing to be open minded, who are willing to look at different perspectives and let people interpret taylor's music the way they want to.

*when i say "straight swifties" i don't mean every straight person who enjoys taylor swift. i am referring to the swifties who refuse to even coexist with any of our queer interpretations of her music

my sweet tender lovely friends I think I made a breakthrough. so we know that orange has something to do with kaylor and representing Karlie (context here and here), but we’ve always wondered WHY. well I think I’m on to something!!

i was in a bookstore the other day, walked down the aisle, and BAM out of nowhere saw this book:

??????????!!!!!!!?!? OBVIOUSLY kaylor has all sorts of Big Sur references (road trip, Taylor saying you should take your wife to Big Sur, etc.), so this PLUS oranges?!

And most importantly we have the meaning of the oranges here:

We know that paradise comes up a TON in Taylors music, and there are even a lot of theories that her 6th album was going to be titled Paradise, before she changed plans and created Reputation. (see here)

What is SO interesting is Miller’s view of paradise - said beautifully in this quote:

Karlie is paradise for Taylor, but their love has some BIG flaws….mostly being the bearding and the k*$hnerds. But it’s their hurdles that keep drawing them in more and more, and making them commit again and again, and keeping things interesting. 

(fyi that is not healthy relationship behavior!!! obstacles dont equal chemistry)

It’s also worth noting that the artwork referenced, the garden of earthly delights, is positioned between heaven and hell, again imagery that Taylor uses a lot 

“Hell was the journey but it brought me heaven”, etc.

So that brings us to the orange girl in YNTCD. She is in her garden of earthly delights, surrounded by her oranges, but she is alone, the flaw of her paradise.

Also want to include this wonderful quote that I think really relates to Taylor’s battle with her masters and generally how she is beholden to the business side of music (including bearding) rather than the art side of it:
