Gods as Types of People At a Wedding

Artemis: the aunt who gives crisp, short and sweet advice to the couple and keeps her visits short; she is hardly seen at weddings since she avoids all kinds of love and romance but will make the trip if someone close to her is getting married; she is a sucker for outdoor weddings and blesses those couples who remember to not litter after the wedding is over.

Athena: she is often seen along with Artemis and is known to give away valuable advice to the newly weds for a long and happy married life; she is also the person who approves of the wedding beforehand and helps the newly weds in making all the arrangement before the ceremony begins; as the bride leaves to walk down the aisle, Athena whispers soothing words to calm the bride down.

Aphrodite: she is that lady who’s always shipping people at the weddings and is eagerly waiting for upcoming couples to seek her blessings and gives them tips on loving her to the fullest; she loves the fancy weddings and is aunt who often cries because of how beautiful the couple is; she often says ‘I told you so’ when the two people who she ships are together in the end; all the bachelors try to impress her and she laughs it off.

Hestia: the aunt who’s always looking younger than she actually is; she is always forgotten at the weddings until one of the parents of the couple reels her in and she politely says hello and wishes the couple good luck; she rarely dances and if she does, she just twirls and bows down politely.

Dionysus: the uncle who comes to the party for the drinks; he ends up embarrassing the couple in his drunk state by telling stupid things that they did when they were little; somebody has to drag him home when the wedding’s over and he always asks the person if it’s their wedding; the first person to dunk the couple’s heads in the cake; fun to talk to when he’s revealing everything; often criticises the wine that the couple has chosen for the guests to drink at the wedding.

Apollo: the uncle who never leaves the music area; he’s often singing for the couple instead of the raising a toast and always chooses a romantic, hit song for their first dance; sometimes he sobs at how beautifully he has sung the song and the guests are already drowning in their tears; Artemis often has to pull him away before the people kill themselves over his voice; blesses the couple with warm, cozy sun rays; crashes weddings with Hermes; women drool over him and he flirts them, leading them on, not before Hermes has to pull him away.

Hermes: makes it a point to have a grand entrance; walks arm-in-arm with Apollo and dances his way to the couple; has an aura of light headedness and is always keeping the atmosphere light by cracking decent jokes; helps the couple design the invitation cards; winks and makes inside jokes with the newly weds; usually drags away Dionysus and curses when he throws up in Apollo’s car since the three of them travel back in his Maserati; steals something or the other and takes it with him as a memoir of the couple’s wedding; crashes weddings with Apollo.

Hades: is seen complaining and grumbling at weddings since Persephone forced him to come along; blesses the couple first so that he can go home early; doesn’t touch flowers cause they decay when he touches them and then they wilt and die and Persephone starts weeping; always wears a black tuxedo and brings along his phone and headphones so that he can listen to music while the others dance; twirls Persephone around for the sake of it and hugs her awkwardly when the couple kisses because he needs love but will not admit it.

Hepahestus: usually sits with Hestia at the back and will exchange views on fire and furnace and metals and crafts if they have nothing to do; Artemis and Athena sit with them, drinking cold water or carbonated drinks if absolutely necessary; the shy guy and the silent one too; manages to clean up for the wedding though and rarely smiles when he takes a picture with the newly weds; gifts them amazing things though.

Ares: pounds the table when the couple kisses and exchange vows; the most enthusiastic person and the most hot tempered one too at the wedding; takes his girlfriend Aphrodite for a dance and dances quite elegantly to everyone’s surprise; gives the couple tips on how to wrestle and kill each other if they ever fight; hugs the hell out of the two and Apollo, Dionysus and Hermes.

a graduating senior's letter to freshman

tomorrow is my last day of high school. i guess it’s always been a tradition to give advice to freshman. when i try to think of just one solid line of advice, something that some scared 14 year old will hold onto for dear life until they are in my shoes in four years, it’s as if i’ve hopped on to a train that’s departing and i am screaming goodbye at the one’s i’m leaving behind. not once have i given someone a worthy goodbye. it always comes out in jumbled warnings and memories and wishes. but as my final day of high school lays ahead of me, i find myself on that train. i want to tell you to watch out for deadlines, and take more photos than you think you’ll need, and try new things even if you think you won’t like them. i’d tell you not to procrastinate, but in truth i just want you to learn to procrastinate well. don’t wait until the very last minute and end up turning in tear stained essays the morning following the night you spent rid with anxiety and feelings of worthlessness. turn in essays you write after you ditched studying to go driving around with your friends, essays that are filled with passion and too much conviction. always remember that what you get out of life is what you put into it. do not spend each day wishing for the next. you have to be there, so you might as well want to. i wish for you to love people with everything you’ve got, and then let them break you into a million tiny pieces, just so you know what it’s like. i wish for you to put up walls higher than the wall of china, and watch as one person single handedly breaks them down with just a few words. embrace every single thing that comes your way in the next four years, good and bad. embrace the positive and the negative, because you will learn from both. accept that the next four years are the only years when you will be surrounded by hundreds of people who are studying the same things as you, dealing with the same types of stress, are as much as they may hide it, are looking for support the same way you are. be that support for people. let other people be that support for you. and most importantly, be hungry. be hungry for growth, and success, and passion, and knowledge. remember that you are in no way required to be the same person you were 5 minutes ago. people say that high school is the time for finding yourself, but somehow i managed to lose myself more every day. cherish that, let yourself be constantly growing and constantly changing. realize that you will never find yourself and be happy with that thought, because to find yourself would mean that you had become stagnant. there are parts of your experience that are going to make you feel so numb, and you will settle with being stagnant and you will settle with feeling betrayed by your peers or your family or yourself. those times will come, but those times will also pass, and they are not worth letting the world break you. do not let the world make you hard, because you are beautiful and young and full of potential that you may or may not see right now. realize your own strengths, and do not dwell on the strengths of others. you are unique, you are important, and no matter what anyone tells you, the world needs you. 

these four years are short, so make it count.

Fest: RS Games 2015: Team Star 

Author: imochan (on ao3) Rating: R/NC-17 Word Count: 18,243 Era: Post-Hogwarts

Summary: A welcome overstayed, a funeral at the farmhouse, a diary, a welcome overstayed (again), and a long walk over the hills. 

Comments: Based on the summary, I expected this to be a very angsty story. But my goodness, was it beautiful, and though a little sadness runs through it, ends up mostly happy. I’m kind of in awe at how the author set this tone for the entire piece; it was as if I was experiencing the same stomach-fluttering and heart-clenching feelings as Sirius as I read it. I also thought the bits of Remus’ mother’s diary were perfect, gorgeous bits of writing (see below). I can’t even properly express how much I loved this fic. Another one of my absolute favorite pieces, from the Games and in general, I think.

Favorite Lines: 

He is in love. It hurts him.

I wonder if he had ever fathomed this. If he ever watched his friends tumble into the orbits of one another, watched them dissolve into that helpless wonder at the size of their own hearts, and if he had thought: no, not that for me. Unnecessary, maybe, or even more so: impossible. Because of what we had told him.

I think he must be hurting, though. He is different, and he is in love. And perhaps he has been startled by the force of it.

A thousand live bats fluttered from the walls and ceiling while a thousand more swooped over the tables in low black clouds, making the candles in the pumpkins stutter.

The best meal I ever had was a five dollar pizza thrown up a fire escape.

A few things I learnt from the ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ commentary:

1. the commodore ship is the colours of the Australian aboriginal’s traditional flag.

2. The left head of the three headed champion fighter has Taika Waititi’s face.

3. In the scene where Thor is being nursed in Hulk’s room, 1 woman is Hemsowrth’s wife and another is Waititi’s wife.

4. The shot where they pan from Loki and Valkyrie to the reflection in the floor was nicknamed “The greatest shot in the history of cinema” by the crew.

5. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are not in fact brothers. Crazy.

6. The line “He’s a friend from work!” was actually thought of by a young boy who visited the set as part of ‘make a wish’. He told Chris to say it as he thought it was funny, and now it’s the most famous line from the film!

7. Jeff Goldblum would sometimes just ad-lib for 4-5 minutes at a time, and it would be incredible.
