the “block op they’re a terf” movement was so thorough that now none of the libfems have any idea what radical feminism is about. I just saw a post saying that we enforce rigid gender roles and most of us are white like…not only are there a LOT of radfems of color (including myself), our whole thing is abolishing gender while acknowledging sex based oppression

the relatively small-fry feminist issue that upsets me the most is that girls hardly use parks, and in every survey and study, they cite boys as the reason. skate parks, basketball courts, soccer fields, they’re overwhelmingly male dominated starting at a very young age. girls get less physical activity, get out of the house less, and participate in less play, because as soon as those spaces have boys in them, girls are either pushed out, or stop using them before they can be.

and it’s a minority of landscape architects who factor this in when designing new parks. are they well lit? are the bathrooms clean and in a busy space? do they have walking trails, roller skating loops, bike paths, rather than only organized courts? are those paths wide enough to accommodate groups? are there multiple courts/play areas, sectioned off from each other? are there lit, covered seating areas, especially picnic tables or other group seating?

in an ideal world, girls would feel just as welcome jumping into a pick-up game as boys, would be able to claim a soccer field with their friends and not worry it would be overtaken or they would be jeered at, would feel free to take up hobbies like skateboarding and go to the park on their own. but they don’t. we’re not in that world. claiming a mixed sex space is an equal one is a lie, for now. we have to meet girls where they are.

They can aspire to be wise, not merely nice; to be competent, not merely helpful; to be strong, not merely graceful; to be ambitious for themselves, not merely for themselves in relation to men and children. They can let themselves age naturally and without embarrassment, actively protesting and disobeying the conventions that stem from this society’s double standard about aging. OB/GYN and midwifery is a WOMANS field. It always has been, always should be, hence why I’m entering the field. To push the males out. There are several other forms of practice they can do in the medical field.

Take a guess on which one was discontinued? Obviously the male one because how could they suffer? Why would they suffer when it's the woman who'll have to suffer for 9 months if she gets pregnant. Why would they suffer when they have the option to just.. leave without any repercussions? Now that's a topic for some other day but did you notice how the suffering of women have been disregarded for so long? How no one cares about what a women goes through as long the the pain doesn't befalls on them?

I just had this conversation with my friend and I thought I'd share it here : believing that feminism has to educate men in order to destroy the patriarchy because we cannot do it without them (this is what she believes) is believing that men oppress us because they are ignorant. It is saying that they oppress us because they don't know what they're doing and don't realize they are doing something wrong, and that somehow this ignorance has been going on for centuries. It is being overly naive. Men aren't babies. Men aren't innocent little beings who would never hurt us if they knew their actions were hurtful. They have been oppressing us for thousands of years, we have been figthing against it for thousands of years ; how could it be possible for them not to understand what they do ? How could they possibly take away our rights without understanding what they do ? How could they hit us, rape us, traffick us without understanding what they do ? And it's not like feminism is new. We have been fighting for centuries and they have been fighting back for centuries to prevent us to free ourselves. They don't read feminist books, they don't take listen to our sperches, they ignore us when we talk about our rights, they mock us, they don't take us seriously. And listen to them speaking. Listen to them giving each other relationship advices, teaching each other to manipulate us. Listen to them talking about us. Read their comments on the internet. Read their damn books and essays about feminism and women's rights. They know what they're doing. They don't care about us. They hate us, they don't see us as humans.

One of the most beautiful parts of Fleabag to me is that we have no concrete knowledge of Fleabag’s mom. Her mother is never once shown in the show because she dies before it starts, but she is brought up constantly. A large reason why Fleabag behaves the way she does is because she does not have her mom around anymore. But we don’t know if she is a good mom or a bad mom. We have no knowledge on how their relationship was, except for the fact that without her mom Fleabag does not understand how to navigate the world. And I love it because it raises the question does it matter?

I think regardless of our relationship, I’d also feel completely lost and out of place in the world without my mom. I also think the majority of people who have any sort of relationship with their mom would feel this way. Regardless if it’s bad or good.

So yeah it doesn’t matter how Fleabag and her mom’s relationship was. It could have been amazing. It could have been terrible. But at the end of the day, there is a part of Fleabag which is gone now that her mother is gone. I think the majority of us would feel the same in her shoes too.

the most seen i’ve ever felt by a character is claire from fleabag. she’s sharp, controlled, untouchable. but underneath she’s holding on by a thread and that’s where i see myself the most. the constant push for perfection, for things to make sense, while quietly feeling like nothing ever will. it’s the ache of wanting more but never being sure if you’ll ever get it. she’s tough, she’s cold, she’s misunderstood. and she’s exactly what it feels like to keep everything together when you’re coming apart at the seams. there’s a pain in her perfection, a truth in her restraint that i understand on a level i don’t even know how to fully explain. she’s every part of me that i’m still trying to make sense of.
