My husband’s job primarily employs adult men but there is one (1) teenage girl and my husband said originally he worried she might be a bit of an outcast but instead every man on the crew was like “huh guess I am a dad/older brother now.”
Murdoc with a teenage daughter?
- murdoc is honestly much more protective than if he had a teenage son. constantly on the look out of older men who will take advantage of her (lol), teaches her the basics of kicking ass, loves her to death but tries not to be over bearing. but it’s murdoc, so he is.
- his favorite part by FAR is teaching her how to drive and doing donuts with her in a parking lot until they get kicked out. he reluctantly teaches her how to drive in the stylo car, enjoying her reaction to finally being able to drive the car he spent years driving in with her, but he is also. so. anxious. donuts are reserved till she gets as good at him at avoiding crashes.
- the first time he sees that she sneaks into the liquor cabinet he starts freaking out a bit. he definitely knows this isn’t her first time by her demeanor and probably screams at her for it. he means well, he REALLY doesn’t want her to have an addiction like he did her age. but he’ll let her slide a drink or two when she’s behaved well.
- he’s also super interested in the music she listens to by now. he literally follows her Spotify playlist just so he can make sure she’s not listening to any “crap” because NO child of his will have a bad music taste. this is a muse free household.
- the first time they get into a really big fight he’s actually devastated. it’s probably over her sneaking out and drinking, something he did frequently as a teen, but no one was there to supervise him. sure he came out fine but…. most certainly not perfect. a screaming fight ensues with him making her cry at the end, the standard “I HATE YOU!” before she runs off into her room. he’s heart broken because his little girl has grown up so fast, and he hopes she doesn’t entirely turn out like him.
- the moment she graduates he is so embarrassing at the ceremony. definitely that parent that cheers way too loudly, “that’s my girl!” takes a thousand blurry photos on his clunky iPad. he even sheds a tear or two when she tells him she loves him, and that she wouldn’t be the person she is today without him. now he’s full on sobbing
- murdoc niccals is far from the perfect parent. but he 100% wants the best for his not so little angel
Sometimes I say self loathing things to my therapist and he looks at me dead in the eyes before saying “You fucking moron.” and tbh same
I know i’m just a shitpost blog, but I’m a shitpost blog based on a fandom that is processing some pretty massive revelations right now and I’m still trying to organise my thoughts on all of it and will hopefully be able to construct a more coherent post soon, but for the time being here are the broad strokes:
I 100% stand with Charisma Carpenter
Despite my plentiful fond nostalgia for both Buffy and Angel I am keenly aware of their many many flaws and the flaws of their creator
Joss whedon’s actions were and are inexcusable and despite the affection I have for the work many many people put into realising and building his creations, I can safely say I have no respect for him.
Buffy and Angel would never ever be what they were had he made them alone, he doesn’t have the vision, the genius, the integrity or the character he has been credited with, it came from countless people working together, some of them at the expense of their wellbeing under his employment
the heart and soul of the (onscreen) buffyverse begin and end with its actresses, the women who made both shows what they are. period. I would have never watched Angel had it not been for Cordelia, what was done to her character was a slap in the face to the fans, and what was done to Charisma behind the scenes makes me sick.
edit: and of course the female writers who prevented stories of female empowerment from being shaped entirely by men, marti noxon and jane espenson especially.
It warms my heart to see Amber Benson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Clare Kramer, Michelle Trachtenberg, Emma Caulfield and Eliza Dushku show their support for Charisma. These women are the reason Whedon’s creation has any value at all, and to see them take a stand like this is beautiful.
that’s it for now. but trust me when I say I’m not done talking about this.
in conclusion:
2021 has barely started and already shits hit the fan
I NEED more of this in my life
