menu them idea idk
Undertale au concept: it's an alternate timeline like dr is, but ut!chara is there. the story progresses as Chara is given more and more time to reflect and have a character arc. (this would be under the "Chara is somebody with issues" umbrella rather than the "Chara was always a psycho murder bastard that likes to kill people complexity who?" umbrella. by following the perspective of Chara, we slowly can find a way to help them as they are the only unsavable character in undertale.

“The villain was this tech guy that had invented basically sort of the internet 2.0. And then they realized that all his patents came to him one morning. And so little by little, they started putting together this and they said, ‘Oh, he got them from the precursors.’ The guys that control the kaiju. And then we found out that the precursors are us thousands of years in the future. They’re trying to terraform, trying to re-harvest the earth to survive. Wow. And that we were in exo-bio-suits that looked alien, but they were not. We were inside. And it was a really interesting paradox... To me, the hero was Mako Mori. I wanted her not only to live, I wanted her to be one of the main characters in the second movie.”
I… what
is. is this a threat or an invitation?
okay but i want this.
further proof my brain is broken: I legit dreamed that they made a Hamilton style musical but like, with Napoleon. it was obviously full of historical errors ( I do not remember details but he got romantically involved with the queen of Prussia at one point somehow?) and the fall out was huge. the internet went wild. it was trending everywhere. there were like 6 different types of discourse. everyone demanded a statement form the French president who remained oddly quiet. Multiple countries summoned their ambassadors. the European Union issued a declaration. I had to check Tumblr after waking up just to feel safe again
In early Undertale fandom days, there was a popular trend in fan projects for a while, to have Frisk scared of Chara (and, quite often, for them to have confided in Sans that Chara made them do a No Mercy run in the past, meaning Sans also hated Chara), while being utterly obsessed with Asriel and the concept of saving him, specifically. (Sometimes going on No Mercy runs to seek a way to save him, which… really never made any sense to me, in retrospect.)
This was probably a reflection of the fandom’s demonization of Chara and generally feeling bad for Asriel. But I think it’d be interesting to explore a story where Frisk’s feelings on the two are sort of reversed. (But also more nuanced.)

the themes are formed halfway through from the hell i tripped and shoved my characters into
ok writeblr i have a question and it does not matter if you answer re fanfic or original work:
do you nerds know what themes you intend to tackle in longer works before you start, or are the themes a fun little surprise you don't uncover until the nth draft?
imagine a fully open world, liminal space crafting survival game. like you can travel the world, build, and craft but you have to get all the resources from an endless loop of this nonsense:
i just think that would be neat.
