I need to fucking go off on one because this is a load of barnacles:
After Kevin tells Wymack he’s his father, no one asks Kevin if he’s OK.
No, “that must’ve been really hard for you, Kev, let us know if we can do anything,” no, “hey, that was really brave of you,” no, “I hope you and coach will work this out together.”
Nothing.
Dan talks to him, except she’s pissed off at him for hurting Wymack, which of course I understand, and yes, Wymack’s feelings are important, too, but Dan, babe, can you put yourself in Kevin’s place for a hot second?
It even says in the book that Matt had to talk her out of hitting Kevin where bruises would show, what the fuck? And after they talk, Dan goes and sits on Matt’s lap, AND KEVIN GOES AND SITS ON THE OUTSKIRTS ALONE. Like he’s being punished for being a complex human being.
He doesn’t even talk for 20 pages! He says nothing from the moment they decide to go to the cabin to the beginning of the next chapter!
Kevin needed someone that trip, and as per usual he was let down, because he’s evil trash, I guess, and doesn’t deserve to be understood or empathised with, apparently.
My boi was done fucking dirty in general, but I’m genuinely so angry about this.
kevin day needs a LISCENCE for those big beautiful green eyes. he turns those things on and NO ONE is safe. 🥺 jean will you teach me french 🥺 riko can we major in history 🥺 coach can we recruit this random player from arizona 🥺 andrew will you drive me to the court every night 🥺 neil will u give me your game 🥺 jeremy can my very controversial friend be on your team 🥺

The real unsung hero in AFTG was Nickys high school teacher who saw how depressed he was becoming and decided that he needed to be as far away from his parents as he could get.
So I just went through your Soul Eater AU (*is totally not hyperventilating because crazy Iwaoi is life and black blood Kenma and Kuroo is a thing I need to breathe*) and I love the idea of a slowly going insane Oikawa and a helpless Iwaizumi (who doesn't know how to help or what's happening because Assikawa is being stupid and not telling him everything) who is very worried. What if, slowly, the insanity starts affecting him even when he's not a weapon, like it goes into his thoughts and (1/4)
starts tempting him, especially when he’s irritated or frustrated, and it eventually starts showing through with his actions and needs (because Oikawa’s masking game is strong but insanity is also strong too).
And then one day Iwaizumi finally figures it out but Oikawa denies it and then he snaps because of course Iwa-chan is gonna push at him all worried like and he ends up hurting him a little bit (or a lot) and of course Oikawa is horrified with himself so he runs away and Iwa tries to stop him but he can’t.
So Oikawa runs and since he’s horrified and distressed, his insanity spikes up again. Which leads to mayhem and maybe Oikawa gets manipulated just a little bit because he’s so bloodthirsty at that point.
As for Ushiwaka, I like the idea of him being a witch and a previous “rival” (more Oikawa is insecure because he still can’t beat Ushiwaka one on one) who otherwise seemed boring and innocent only for him to turn around and betray them because Oikawa started getting suspicious and when he found out he hunted Ushiwaka with Iwaizumi just by themselves.
And then Ushiwaka hurts Iwaizumi and rubs it in Oikawa’s face that he’s weaker as he is (kinda matching with ‘you should have come to shiratorizawa’ and replacing it with ‘you should have been more mad’ maybe?) And thus sets off Oikawa’s insanity. (As you can tell I have a problem with this and I’m in love with the idea of insanity lmao. Sorry for this ridiculous long thing, what even happened? *shot*)

Started rereading the Hunger Games series and I feel like it’s so overlooked how in 74th and 75th Hunger Games, we don’t know every Tribute’s names, with Katniss only referring to them by their District numbers but in TBOSAS, we knew every single Tribute by name. We associated them with the clothes they wore on the Reaping Day and Suzanne even goes so far as to describe how they looked, however briefly. We see these Tributes and we’re familiarized with them by the little tidbits provided to the mentors and to Snow and Lucy Gray. But we never get this in the original trilogy.
In two generations, President Snow alienated the Districts from each other so much that Katniss didn’t even care to know all the names of the Tributes sent into the Arena with her, with the exception being those who posed great risk against her safety and those she felt great compassion for (e.g. Cato, Thresh, Rue, Mags, Betee, Wiress etc.). Katniss even went so far as to call the D6 Tributes in the 75th Hunger Games morphlings, for their affinity to imbibe in the drugs that help them forget their own traumas (an incredibly hurtful description, in my own opinion, to be known by the qualities you hate the most about yourself). We never know the real name of the 74th D5 girl, with Katniss only referring to her as Foxface and we don’t even know Marvel’s name until we get to the second book and he was Katniss’ first personal kill. Katniss even kills the D4 girl in the books with the same tracker jacker venom that killed Glimmer and yet still, we don’t know her name. We are so removed from the identity of the other Tributes that we don’t even know what some of them looked like beyond brief descriptions of mangled bodies and dead Tributes in the bloodbath at the Cornucopia.
And, the thing is, Suzanne established the importance of names in the series. Even in real life, we recognize the importance of being named. It is a fundamental aspect of being human. If you’re ever in a perilous situation where a person might be placing your life in danger, we’re told to remind the person that you’re human. “Keep saying your name, how old you are, where you came from. Remind them you are a human being just like them.” Before any propaganda can work against a group of people, refusing to recognize a person’s name is the first step to dehumanization. And just like the people of the Districts, we don’t care enough about the other Tributes to even want to know their names. Their propaganda worked on us, the readers.
In two generations, President Snow completely wiped out any sense of familiarity and camaraderie the Districts may have shared with the other. In two generations, Snow sowed the seeds of distrust and division into the Districts so deeply that even we, the readers, were affected by the effects of Capitol propaganda. In two generations, the Districts ceased to genuinely care about the others beyond the vague sense of injustice they feel for their shared plight. It’s why Career Districts don’t seem to care about killing the other Tributes. How can you care, to show your compassion and humanity, when you can barely see them as people? Yes, they may have been in the Arena with you. Yes, they may have been starved and beaten and forced into labor like you were. Yes, they might be children just like you. Yes, they might be subjected to the same deplorable system that turned you into virtual slaves. But they are not your friends. They are not your allies. They are strange, with different customs and traditions that you have. You do not share the same values. They do not care about you. At the first chance they get, they will kill you with your bare hands and they will do it with alacrity if it meant their survival. There can only be one Victor and it can’t be them. It has to be you.
People who call Kevin weak or pathetic when he’s terrified to the point he has to get drunk as shit to even think about facing the man who abused him all his life can fucking meet me in the mcdonalds parking lot to get their ass beat.
so Nicky’s in the bank withdrawing some money for groceries or something and he almost faints.
He and Eric were not poor at all, Eric’s job paid well and Nicky’s own job wasn’t too shabby.
But there was no way they had accumulated this much money without either of them noticing. It was an obscene amount.
Nicky spends the next hour talking with Erik over the phone, hashing out their deposits and their withdrawals together and they come to the conclusion that it must be a mistake.
So Nicky goes to the bank teller who leads him to one of the bankers and they determine that someone else deposited the money, someone whose named Andrew Minyard.
Half a world away, Andrew picks up his phone to his cousin sounding confused.
“Andrew you accidentally deposited a shitload of money in our account, how do we send it back?”
“No, that was on purpose. Keep it.”
“What?”
So Andrew thinks he gets paid way too much for what he’s doing.
He’s just smacking a ball around with a stick.
Even though he is more invested in the sport now, cares more, that’s still not a whole lot.
So on his free time, he calculated the cost of taking care of him and Aaron for the time Nicky had.
And sent the money over.
The moment Nicky heard this he started crying.
So now Andrew has Nicky crying on the phone, for what has to be the second time since they separated.
Nicky has to explain that not only do they not need the money, but Andrew also doesn’t need to pay for anything Nicky gave him and that him taking care of Aaron and Andrew wasn’t a transaction or a deal. It was just him loving them and trying to let them have a less shitty childhood than they already had.
It takes a lot of Andrew grunting not happily and Nicky sniffling and even putting Eric on the line to convince Andrew.
So now what do they do with the money?
They agree to donate it
Half goes to charities that help abused kids get help
Half goes to a charity that’s working to ban conversion therapy and help lgbt kids
So they have to hang up, cause Andrew was to go to practice soon and Nicky has to go figure out that much money
Before they hang up Andrew goes quiet and Nicky thinks that he already hung up before
“Nicky.”
Nicky pays close attention, sure that he’s going to try to convince him again or something
“Thank you.”
Andrew immediately hangs up and Nicky wants to cry again
