The ABCDE Method: Accomplish Tasks more Efficiently

I recently came across the ABCDE method that’s similar to what I do to stay productive each day: instead of lumping up all your tasks, sort them into categories and tackle each of them differently. Here’s an outline of the method. Hope it helps :)

IDK who needs to hear this but if there’s something in your life that makes you feel better, but you never stick to it,

it’s still actually perfectly fine to do it

and you shouldn’t stop yourself from starting just because it won’t be a permanent change.

Like if starting a new daily planner gives you an amazing afternoon of planning and four days where you feel in charge of your life,

why not do it?

It doesn’t matter that it won’t be a permanent change - 4 good days is still worth it.

If you ever catch yourself thinking, “I wish I could pray/stretch/prep/plan/do the thing, but I always get started on that and it never lasts more than a couple of days,”

what this really means is, “hey, I can feel better for a couple of days.”

if this post is making you think of things in your own life that you wish you could stick to because of how good they make you feel,

just be aware:

you’re not thinking of a list of ways you’ve failed to commit

you’re thinking of a list of things that make you happy, and you should give yourself permission to start doing them as often as you want to

“I was meant to help, not hurt.”

“You don’t have to be so gentle with my hand. You can squeeze it if you want.”

“I was attempting to be poetic. Did it not work?”

“When the sky is a dark blue and the city lights almost hurt my eyes, I feel at ease.”

“It’s so hot outside, I’m more puddle than human.”

“Stop flirting with my roommate. They’re a villain!”

It’s currently midnight here.

I’m /finally/ catching up on the works that I’ve been putting off for the last month. My teachers will surely be disappointed in me (or my performance, idk), but I know I can’t change that. The best I can do right now is do my best, give my all at this final stretch of school stuffs before summer.

Ahh, summer. My greatest motivation this school year. I can’t wait, I’ll see you soon, my lovely summer.  ㅠ ㅠ

Anyway~ I’m trying not to fall asleep :(( wish me luck!!

Quarantine tips for students

🎒 Treat it like you’re actually going to classes.

Take a shower. Get dressed. Don’t just roll out of bed into Zoom. It’ll put you in the correct mindset to get some work done.

☀️ Use this time as a chance to operate based on your natural energy cycles.

Work when you’re most productive. Rest when you aren’t. (Unless you have non-recorded, scheduled classes/meetings.)

⏰ Create a routine.

You’ll get used to doing the things you do and you won’t need as much motivation to get them done each time.

🎯 Set daily goals

You’ll have an idea of where you’re headed and how much you have to do for the day.

🏡 Establish boundaries by creating a separate space for doing work.

Keep coming to this space when you have to do work and don’t allow any distractions there - this will train your brain to focus.

☎️ Stay in touch with people.

Avoid feeling isolated by calling your friends, spending time with your family, roommates, etc. Social support can help reduce stress.

🎨 Keep your spirits up by spending time on your hobbies, exercising, doing something creative etc.

Coloring, doing yoga, and playing music/singing/listening to music have been shown to improve mental health.

📚 Exercise your brain

by learning a new skill you’ve always wanted to learn, reading a book on your TBR, listening to podcasts, etc.

🌿 Spend some time every day in nature,

whether it’s going out into your backyard or balcony or just opening a window.

😷 Take care of yourself by getting enough sleep, eating properly, etc.

This will make you better equipped to fight diseases, and you’ll feel better in general.

at some point you have to realize that you actually have to read to understand the nuance of anything. we as a society are obsessed with summarization, likely as a result of the speed demanded by capital. from headlines to social media (twitter being especially egregious with the character limit), people take in fragments of knowledge and run with them, twisting their meaning into a kaleidoscope that dilutes the message into nothing. yes, brevity is good, but sometimes the message, even when communicated with utmost brevity, requires a 300 page book. sorry.
