“Guess we’ll find out,” he replied, licking his lips. Not that Luke had ay opportunity outside these walls to get to know Lia. For the majority he was either on the ice, on the field, or out. He didn’t answer to anyone but himself except when it came to social ties. Being Big Man on campus came with it’s draw backs, mainly not being able to be around those kind of girls. “Lucas,” Luke greeted, “But you can call me Luke, Sweets.” He turned his body so he’d be facing her directly. Her figure a much better view than the drama sets. “You ditching or just coming in?”
“Guess we will,” her lips pulling into a small smile as she leaned back into the less than soft cushion behind her. they ran in similar circle, the popular crowd more so than anything. Watched a few of the hockey games when tori or vanessa would drag her to them, and she knew he was one of the few stars of the team. and while she also rarely saw him around the after parties, or any of the parties thrown, she still kept an eye out, for what reason she didnt know. “but Lucas has such a ring to it dont ya think?” shrugging as she caught his gaze, “both, didnt feel like going to my first class but now im stuck here because I also do not feel like going to the next,”
Kai hadn’t moved from his place in front of the mirror, his gaze never moving from his reflection. If anyone walked by they’d think he was possessed, like he was just looking through himself. The cuts and bruises from the accident still present, but faded slightly as days passed. And the memories still as vivid as the day it happened, every time he closes his eyes he saw the bright blue and red lights, the sound of the sirens blaring in his ears, and the image of his mother lifeless in front of him.
“You think I give a fuck about appearances? You think I can get up and speak about her? Like I don’t think about her every second of everyday, and the worst part is I can’t even remember the good things! I can’t remember the love she showed us, or the jokes she make, or anything besides seeing her laying there,”
“None of you know what I went through, father or Nate haven’t even asked me a question about it or checked to see how I’m doing. We’re all mourning, we’re all crushed by the fact momma is gone. But none of you were there, none of you had to see it or experience what we did. And god, it shouldn’t fucking be her who’s gone. It’s not like anyone would’ve missed me anyway,” he spoke, finally turning from the mirror and facing his sister. His eyes rimmed with tears, before walking right past her, head held high and taking his place in line with his family.
“You know it’s Mama’s wishes that you speak.” Vanessa approached, clad in an all black lace gown that exposed skin both on her mid-drift and her thighs, crossing her arms as she approached her brother. You couldn’t tell from Vanessa’s appearance, but the moment was somber as ever. Everyone surrounding them in all black, paying their respects, and getting unnecessarily close to hugging each of the Montgomery siblings.
Vanessa looked over the crowd, eyes locking with their father’s right away. There were tears his eyes, bit no resemblance of pain. No droopy eyes, sleepless nights, or weightless heart to match. Just a stern nod and back to shaking hands the eldest Montgomery went. “I get it you’re in the middle of the, God forgive my language, fuck the world and everyone in it mood but right now you need to be a Montgomery. You already know what’s waiting at home if we don’t perform. So play your fucking sweet, artistic dreamer role and be miserable after. People are watching.”

“Maybe not for you,” Luke replied matter of factly. He let his free hand find its way to her thigh, comfortability giving it a bit of a squeeze. Always one to press his luck once he got enough time with a girl. He wasn’t much of a pick bunny guy, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t tempted––hell look who Luke was with––but it never went past fun temptation at least that’s what his Hounds and the greater public knew anymore. “I pay for a bit of… discretion with my guy. You understand.” Luke turned to look directly at Lia, hoping she would get that discretion needed to extend to this as well. “Dirty little secret, eh?” he chuckled more to himself than to Lia. He pulled into his apartment complex, cutting the engine.
“I think it would depend on who you ask,” a simple shrug, relaxing into the seat a little more and looking over at him, “I’ve gotten a rave review one or twice,” laughing airily, almost like a small sigh. Her gaze finding his as he turned towards her, the look in his eyes telling her this this was a secret. That it was to stay between the two of them, and something told her it would be like that for a while. “I understand wanting to keep up appearances. I have my own discretions, you don’t have to worry about me,” making sure she kept his gaze as she spoke. Lia wanted to be sure he could trust her, no matter what secrets came her way. “We all have one or two, im sure time will reveal more as we go,” Turning away from him only when she felt the cut of the engine, and looking to see where they were.
You know it. I see the way you look at me and I know, you know. As hard as you’ve tried to stamp it out and ignore it, I have tried harder! I have tried harder than you to be quiet and to forget it and to not bother my family with my problems. But I can’t try anymore because it hurts. I don’t want to be going through this but I am. “It’ll all be worth it, you know. The rest of us will be here and you’ll be living your dreams and traveling the world. Just don’t forget us small people on the way up,” Vanessa teased. “But seriously, From what I’ve seen, off day, good day, or bad day you’re still one of the best players that team is ever gonna have.” Her voice was encouraging, the natural caregiver in herself coming out the more she spoke. It was a softness, a gentleness, a subtly that most people couldn’t put their tongues on. “
And she could feel her skin getting warmer, as Vanessa closed the carpet space between them, almost wanting to hold the moment between them and allow his words to sink in. The height difference more than obvious even with them sitting down. “You may know someone?” Vanessa grinned, a small giggle escaping. She hid her excitement, but Vanessa could feel her heart pounding through her chest wanting to scream yes. “I wouldn’t pay much attention to the other players,” Vanessa spoke., words coming out before she heard herself.
Eyes wide and cheeks growing red, “Wait no, not like, cause I wanna watch you per say, more so because you’re the only one I now. Not, wait, not like I don’t wanna watch you either because I’m sure you’re great and fun to watch and….” she rambled. “I’m… gonna stop talking now.”
“I could never forget about the small town folk, especially since I see someone being there with me,” he wasn’t sure the undertones in his words. Not realizing he was thinking about her still being in his life, even if he meant one of his friends when he began his sentence he realized it didn’t stick to them. “Thank you Vanessa, that means a lot coming from someone who isn’t a puck bunny or trying to get an in,”
He watched her move closer, his instinct telling him to reach out and pull her in but he instead stood where he was his gaze drawing to her shorter form as she got closer. “There’s a possibility, I happen to know how to pull strings,” ignoring the small swell of his heart as he heard that sweet giggle coming from her mouth. And it was because of him, a soft smile tugging at his lips.
Listening in amusement as she spoke, watching and listening with his arms crossed. A soft chuckle falling from his lips before he stepped closer, “I prefer knowing your eyes are all on me, truth be told I play a little better knowing you’re there,” he spoke grabbing her around the waist, pulling her in and softly pressing his lips to hers.
