âSo does Amelia,â Luke countered with sly smile. âIâll let Lucas slide, sounds good coming out your mouth.â He swung his keys between his fingers before fulling standing, picking up the girlâs book bag and hitching it over his shoulders. Almost surprised at the weight of the books. Luke figured she was more of a lip gloss and spare pair of flats kind of girl, but at least he was on his toes. âSay no more.â he spoke, nudging his head to the door.Â
She had to admit, it had been a minute since she heard Amelia fall from someoneâs lips. But yet there was a certain air when he said it that she was intrigued by, she wasnât quite sure the power it held quite yet. âI can say the same to you Sir,â standing from the couch her heels making a soft click as she followed his lead. âI hope this trip is worth it,â

fiancĂŠ. the word rings in his ears no sooner than he can spot the glacier poised perfectly on one of her dainty fingers like it was made for her. as far as he knows, it was. and it immediately occurs to him that if he thought this girl was out of his league before, sheâs light years away by now. if thereâs one thing heâs learned in this life itâs that so many things are purely transactional. girls with the looks to land the big ballers do, and they donât look back. hell, he wouldnât either if it guaranteed a rock the size of an ice-skating rink and a life most can only dream of.Â
but he considers her, the way her lip curls just slightly at his lame joke, and heâs not ready to dub her a gold-digger just yet. âshe smilesâ he comments the minute her expression breaks, eyes transfixed on the dimples in her cheeks, the deepest heâs ever seen in real life. and he canât help but feel just a little proud to have made her smile like that. even if this is the only interaction theyâll ever have, he can walk away with the consolation that he could at least make a dull evening less so. heâs always prided himself on his ability to lighten the mood, even at his own expense. maybe leaned into it a little too much back in high school, when he got suspended for burping the pledge of allegiance over the intercom and setting off firecrackers in the boyâs bathroom. but since his nuts dropped and the semi-maturity kicked in, heâs been able to find a healthy balance between class clown and complete idiot.Â
âone rose for every minute youâve been sitting here, itâs only rightââ and he doesnât disclose this information to his usual patrons, but she seems about thirty years younger, and ten times cooler than most of the people that frequent this place. âyou knowââ he speaks an octave lower, âif youâre ever looking for a little escape i happen to specialize in herbal refreshments. good shit too, straight from caliâ he brags a little, plays around with so many things but never about his premium supply.Â
leaning over onto his elbows, he smiles a tiny smile when she butters him up, canât tell if sheâs being genuine or just blowing smoke, but he prefers to be kept guessing anyway. he shakes her hand, fancy rock and all, and thinks fast for some excuse to keep the conversation going. âso miss ameliaâŚyou know gut-spilling is pretty customary to the bartender/client relationship and this place doesnât close for another half hourâŚstory for a story? i know you got some crazy ones, donât hold out on me girlâ
Lia had always hoped to become the housewife. Never having to lift a finger to do anything, and being able to infinitely shop as much as she would like. Her closet already a prime example of such, everything she dreamed of and more. And yet, she still didnât feel complete. Like something was missing, perhaps money didnât actually buy happiness. Oh who was she kidding, it bought her happiness. But having attention from the person she loved brought her more, and as the years of gone on she found herself losing it more and more. It left her feeling conflicted, not knowing her next move.
It wasnât like she hadnât found herself admiring the man behind the bar before, wondering what his story was. How he ended up in such a prim and proper place, yet seemed out of place almost. She found him intriguing, always seeming to make the best with the customers despite the more savory comments made by them. He still held his cool, a small laugh and a comment from him before he began their drinks. She caught herself watching him more than she wanted to admit, the way his lips curled as he smiled, the dimples on his face just as if not more apparent as her own. But it was the humor that captured her, the playfulness in almost all his comments she had been able to hear. Whether to make someone feel better, or just to make conversation. She enjoyed the little glimpses she could get, whether her fiancĂŠ was around or not.
âNow that would surprise me, might even get lucky with that gift,â sipping her drink with a raised brow, âwell well well, the dirty secret has been revealed,â shrugging ever so slightly, crossing her legs under the bar top, âbut I will play along, and gladly take some of whatever you have to offer. Iâm quite well versed,â knowing the amount of people their age around the place, it wasnât the best place to sell. But then again, every so often the old rich guys would want to show off for their younger play things. Something Lia was used to in her past life, and the showing off was always worth it for her.
His hands were softer than she expected, but still had a certain roughness to them that felt good against her well manicured and moisturized hands. Adjusting her ring slightly before smirking at his words, leaning in closer as she spoke, âwell that depends on which part of my life you want to hear about, Iâve been lucky to experience quite a bit in my short time of life. Some activities more illegal than the others, but all fun none the less,â

âNot really into the reviews. Rather find out for myself and return the favor,â Luke smirked. The idea of reviews raised his eyebrow, but he kept a brave face. In this town, who you are and what you did matter. The town was hierarchy of personalities and the Bakers were at the top. Lia would be a political and religious liability; that only intrigued Luke moreââsomething to sneak around, his eyes only, and still maintain peace all around. Sound like an easy year for Luke. âAppearances are everything,â he affirmed, matching the eye contact. He was swift with hiss movements, cutting the engine, and moving from his door to hers. âDonât think too much into it. Gotta sister and a mother and a church full of Sistersâ who command respect.â he downplayed to make it seem like he was trying to be impressive.
She raised a perfectly kept brow at him, tilting her head slightly, âwhat a gentleman, unfortunately Iâm not here for the gentle side of things,â a shrug falling off her shoulder, moving to look out the window again. While her family was big in the town, her parents helping more than one family around get off scot free, she was a different story. Falling from her spot as the favorite, she became distant, relishing in any and all alcohol and drugs she could get her hands in. Lia became more well known around the ravine, and around the degenerates of town, and slowly slipped from the hierarchy. Still keeping her place in school, never letting herself fall lower than she deserved there. But she didnât care what the adults had to say, they werenât the ones she had to interact with day in and day out. Instead taking a line here or there, maybe pop a pill when she felt like it, but always had a water bottle of vanilla rum and Dr Pepper, and a blunt or dab pen handy in her purse. Those were the secrets no one else around school knew, the ones she held close to herself for reasons unknown to her. âSo Iâve been told once her twice,â Lia knew the bakers reputation around town, but she never got close enough to see it for herself. After her fathers diagnosis she wasnât one for God, or believing in a higher power. She just existed and let the world do as it did, never worrying about the consequences of what she was doing; yet still being semi aware of herself. Watching as he moved around the car, and slipping out of the seat, a soft click as her heels touched pavement. âDonât all women? Commanding and deserving, however, two different things,â

âNervous.â Vanessa repeated, allowing herself to try and gauge where Dallas was at. She paused, taking a moment to be a little more thoughtful in her comments, one of the notable things people differed from Vanessa and her more impulsive classmates. âI canât imagine youâd be nervous, the entire town practically has your back and support, but Iâm sure that kind of pressure can be intenseâŚâ Â
And it was that small chuckle that sent Vanessaâs eyes fluttering. Everything about exuded confidence from his laughter, the base in his voice, the relaxation in his walkâânot that she spent time watching him or anything. Maybe day dreaming about whatâd she say if he bumped into her, asked her the time of day, or something caused their hands to brush against each other. Of course nothing that sheâd say out loud, she had enough friends with eyes on Dallas that she knew sheâd never win, so instead, Vanessa would milk this for all she had or (as she assumes will happen) until he got bored of her.
Vanessaâs attention perked, finally matching Dallasâ hues. Her bright hazel eyes looking up to try and force herself not to read too much into such a simple question. âUm, I hadnât planned on it?â He was probably just curious. Most people go to the games anyway; the team was the townâs glory after all. Plus her friends usually ditched her after the games for personal time with players, and nothing looked worse than being alone on a Friday night around Guelph. Dallas probably didnât care if she would one way or another, just making conversation. âProbably not. I heard it was sold out already,â she added, trying to sound indifferent about it.Â
Dallas watched the gears turn in her head, an amused smile lingering on his face. âYes nervous. Everyoneâs watching my every move when Iâm on the ice, expecting great things from me. Even on my off days, it gets draining sometimes,â he finished with a soft sigh, not sure why he was spilling his heart to her. Maybe it was the alcohol in his bloodstream, or simply because she brought something out in him that just made him comfortable. Either way he was grateful for it.
Dallas had noticed her more than once, the way her eyes twinkled when sheâd laugh at something her friends say. Or the little taps of her fingers and far off look in her coffee colored eyes. She wasnât one to be the center of attention, leaving her friends to go with who they may and Vanessa left behind. There was something enthralling about the girl willing to let everyone else shine around her, and he wanted more chances to get to know more about her.
There was a noticeable dimming in Dallasâ eyes as she spoke. A soft nod as she spoke, he had noticed her at few and far in between games. But he always played a little bit better knowing she was watching him, maybe trying to show off a little bit or maybe that comfortability he felt tonight, traveled to the ice. âI think I may know someone who could squeeze you a ticket,â he joked laughing lightly, âfor real, I want you to come, see us kick ass in the semi-finals,â

once they speakers and outside voices finally seemed to drown out, vanessa realized it really was just her and mike. she knew what the game meant and what most of her friends were planning on doing once they with their respective crushes, but for vanessa the way wasnât as clear. vanessa wasnât as comfortable as those around her in being undressed or the catcalling from the boys during gym. boys like mike dallas. it would be a lie to say she didnât keep her ear somewhat pressed onto the grapevine around Guelph in regards to the boy. vanessa knew the stories, the whispers, and from the way girls swooned just to get a smile there had to be some light to them.Â
but vanessa didnât want to let that sway her too much. after all, if thatâs what dallas was into or wanted to doââshe wasnât what he wanted. the girls at their school hiked their skirts up, applied make up like walking instagram filters, and tight fitting uniforms. vanessa on the other-hand only had her small size going for her which forced her skirt to be above her knees which the basketball team happily told her time and time again.Â
right now though, sheâd enjoy whatever time she had left with him and go back to day dreaming about him and what she wished she would have had more courage to do during cheer practice. ânice to finally be formally introduced to the myth and legend that is Mike Dallas,â she joked lightheartedly. âare you⌠are you excited for the game this weekend?â
He enjoyed the air she held around her, something different than the usual people he was used to being around. It was different, he wasnt afraid to admit that. Used to girls openly spilling what they felt to him, or simply throwing themselves at them. He could sense something from her, whether it was nerves or uncomfortableness or simply something else; he wasnât sure. The words spoke about it him around the halls of degrassi wasnât anything secret, they werenât at the top of the food chain quite yet but people still liked to talk.
Dallas wasnât a stranger to the words spoken about Vanessa through the various sports team. She wasnât quite like the other girls that were more than ready to let the team do what they wanted. And that intrigued Dallas, something he kept to himself. Not for fear of what his team or the other guys would say around the halls. But because he understood her difference, she was something else around the halls and he enjoyed her presence. Dallas wanted to get to know her more and more as time passed, he just wasnât sure how to go about it.
He hoped that tonight would span more conversations and times they could be together, but for now heâd take what he could get and at least talk to her. A small chuckle falling from his lips, his tongue licking his lips slightly before nodding. âExcited, and a lil nervous as usual. No matter how many times Iâve done it theyâre still there,â he shrugged lightly, âI can only assume youâre joining us all there?â
It was an unfortunate time for Lia, her tire getting a flat on the way to school. Making her free period null and void in her mind. Her only hope to make it worth it, that the drama room was empty and perhaps she could steal a couple pulls from her pen. A new habit she had picked up as things in her house started to turn to disarray. But the distinct sound of a beer cracking however made her all to aware of the other presence in the room. Her heels clicking slightly as she came around the corner, only to be met with the blue eyed male. A small smirk crossing her red lips with a chuckle, âWho am I to rat on you, you keep my secrets Ill keep yours,âÂ
âOh shit,â Luke called out as the beer exploded in his hand. It wasnât unlike Luke to be using his free period to hide out in the drama rehearsal room with a few of his boys before his next class, but in effort to kill his hangover from the night before, he snuck a beer real quick, hoping to get out before first block. That was util the foot steps began approaching him. Heâd seen the raven-haired girl around campus, maybe in homeroom? âIâll give you one if you promise not to rat me out.â @indiestars-rpâ
