Two-Factor Authentication

Equifax just leaked our personal information to hackers! That’s really bad! It’s enough information that an identity thief could steal your cell phone service and start receiving text messages intended for you. It’s time to beef up security with an authenticator app. Most important Internet services allow you to generate codes with your phone that you enter when you log in. I use Authy for this because it backs up and restores all your two-factor tokens when switching phones or doing factory resets.

Since my phone was in the shot, I had to take this photo with my 3DS. That's why you can't read any of the text. (And yes, you can use Authy with Tumblr.)

Flyboard Air Test 1

Now this is a hoverboard! Zapata Racing makes those water jetpacks for your feet, and now they’re cranking up the power and making a Flyboard that flies through open air. The Flyboard Air can apparently fly for 10 minutes at up to 93 mph and 10,000 feet. If even half of this is real, I want one last year.

Wintergatan – Marble Machine

TwistedSifter just keeps finding awesome stuff I want to share. If you like my posts, you ought to subscribe to TwistedSifter too. How else would I have found out about Swedish electronic folk band Wintergatan and their one-man band contraption? 2000 marbles play a catchy loop on the machine’s built-in vibraphone, bass guitar, and drum set.

Skeleton Hunter

I made another game! For VOGJam 1 the theme was “A Buggy Game,” so I made Skeleton Hunter, a broken little 2D platform game in HTML5. You are the hunter from Skeleton’s Revenge going around defeating skeletons and the necromancer that keeps summoning them. Jump backwards through walls, wrap around the screen, undo deaths by pressing Pause, and utterly pick apart the game. I hope this makes it into Awful Games Done Quick someday.

Google Chrome has gamepad support and is the recommended browser for playing this game. UPDATE: v1.02 has support for gamepads in Firefox and control config for all platforms.

Play at Bakamo Studios Play v1.02 with control config at Bakamo Studios Play at VOG Network

Yes, there is a way to reach the title screen with the hunter. Try escaping boss rooms.

Because I didn't have time to make a controller configuration menu, I basically just allowed for every control scheme at once. Even gamepads are supported if you're using Google Chrome. (Or Firefox in v1.02, which has a controller configuration menu now.

If you do a jump attack facing away from the wall, you can get inside the wall. I knew from the moment the theme was announced that I wanted to do a game with bad collision detection.

The skeleton wasn't even implemented until two days before the deadline. It turned out alright, though.

Holy crap, what happened here? Did that guy walk off the title screen to the right? You broke my game! How could you?

Mystery Skulls Animated – Ghost

Mystery Ben makes animated music videos for Mystery Skulls songs. Ghost could have been a simple Scooby Doo parody, but every second seems to have important details for TV Tropes to analyze. This attracted a far bigger fandom than the official live action music video, prompting Mystery Ben to continue the series…

Gashi Gashi – E-can

The animations on pixiv are just a series of PNGs animated in HTML5. Luckily, Gashi Gashi also posted a GIF of this on Tumblr, so I'd added that here. When Mega Man charges up a shot, he starts flashing, but everything else that's the same color as Mega Man flashes too.

UPDATE: Gashi Gashi posted this animation as a GIF on Tumblr, so it’s here now.

ToriNaru – ReiMari-Santa

The tree is up, the lights are on, the presents are wrapped, and it’s Christmas Day. I might even get to take a nap for a few hours before things get started. pixiv’s Christmas tag is used way more than I expected, even on pixiv Spotlight. Happy holidays, everyone!

OK, so I doubt many people here Stateside are getting Touhou stuff for Christmas. There's actually a separate Touhou Christmas tag which itself has 2,318 results.

Where'd Hitstun Go?

I’m OK! I’m mostly on Kbin and Lemmy and a little Mastodon and Discord. They’re like if Reddit or Twitter were general Internet services like email and not getting ruined by a dumb CEO. I don’t use other platforms much unless I’m checking on someone who only uses one platform.

Today is my birthday and people are visiting my old profiles today, so this post is for them. Family and work are keeping me plenty busy and I haven’t been keeping up with everybody else like I should. These crossposting WordPress posts are too much work and don’t really reach people anyway. Floating Is Fun is way easier to do. I really miss my weekly Twitch stream and I am planning my return as soon as my schedule allows for it. I have a lot to figure out, but I want to be there for everyone who wants to see me. Let’s play chess sometime.

Shirakaba – Chiptune Hell

Shirakaba – Chiptune Hell

Chiptune Hell is what I wish my room looked like. The desktop is filled with retro gaming gear I’d have to get at Warp Zone or Ohayocon’s dealer’s room. Is that a CRT TV with a built-in Super Famicom?

I’m trying a few new things with this post. Jetpack is now cross-posting to my rarely-used Twitter and Google+ as well as Facebook and the usual RSS feed. Even if none of those things reach you, you can now subscribe by email in the sidebar. (Can I even do that on Tumblr? That was a nice feature in Jetpack...)

I’ve also introduced tags and tagged up all my previous posts Tumblr-style. If you want to see all the music posts, other posts that have too many links, my original content, or an RSS feed of just the pixiv posts, you can get that now.

The artist's web site links right to the full-size image, I guess it's probably OK if I do the same here. Wow, this post is so meta it hurts.
