Quake Live is a refreshingly fast and simple first person shooter straight out of the 90s. It was merely a free-to-play version of Quake III Arena until a few weeks ago when they added weapon loadouts. You now start with one of four primary weapons and one of four secondary weapons. If you want to start every life with a railgun and a shotgun, now you can! Quake Live made its debut on Steam this week, so find me there and join the fight!
If all the guns and killing put you off, how about Jazzpunk’s take on it? It’s full of gaming references like this.

By the way, testing something here. You're reading the title text, not the alt text. (...That's what the WordPress version of this post said when you mouseover the image. Tumblr doesn’t support mouseover text, so you get the mouseover text as plain text instead.)

The world has gotten a little less awesome. We lost Rooster Teeth lead animator Monty Oum to a severe allergic reaction during a medical procedure. Those are no joke! We know Monty Oum from his action-packed mashup series Dead Fantasy and Haloid and his animation work on Red vs Blue. Here’s a stylish trailer from his last original series, RWBY.

(My original Wordpress post about Stupjam was a bunch of Tumblr oEmbeds rather than my usual re-posts, so I didn’t write specific mouseover text for each image. I’m writing a little bit now so I don’t break my post format too bad.)

I started listening to RadioSEGA again and they’ve been playing this song from Ollie King, an arcade skateboarding game that was the spiritual successor of Top Skater. Sampling artist Hideki Naganuma provided the soundtrack, including remixes of a couple of his own songs from Jet Set Radio Future. I had no idea Ollie King had beats like this.

It’s about time I did another pixiv post with mouseover text, right? Amemura keeps showing up in my recommendations with these eye-catching beautiful skies and vertical locations. The artist has recently started posting their new work on Tumblr and Twitter, so they’re easier to follow now.
Lake of Twilight (黄昏の湖)
This is Salar De Uyuni, Bolivia, the largest salt flat in the world. When it rains, the entire salt flat turns into a mirror. Trippy! Artists and photographers love this place.
You and I (きみとぼく)
If I could see this clearly underwater, I'd go scuba diving all the time. Having things above and below you and swimming up and down to meet them must be a lot of fun.
At the End of Summer (夏の果て)
Here's another place that looks like it probably exists. This girl must be a globe-trotter.
Dive
Here's a place that does NOT exist. Are we skydiving or scuba diving? Or both? Whatever it is, it's cool! The artist also has one of scuba diving in space.
Dream
Sweet dreams! Unless you're seeing this post in the morning. In that case, sorry I just made you forget whatever dreams you had.

I found Stupjam on the leaderboards for Yumi’s Odd Odyssey/Sayonara Umihara Kawase on the 3DS. Stupjam has since moved on to other Nintendo stuff, taking runner up in the Splatoon Art Contest, and is now accepting commissions. Since this artist is on Tumblr, I’m trying out Tumblr’s oEmbed code. Hopefully it works for everyone. (Update: It doesn’t work in Feedly, but I can try adding Tumblr’s own embed code manually next time.)

GameHut is a YouTube channel run by Jon Burton, founder of Traveller’s Tales and producer of Lego games and movies. His series on Coding Secrets dives deep into the Sega Genesis versions of Sonic 3D Blast and Toy Story to explain how he achieved those great graphics. He really used all the resources to do things the hardware was never meant to do.

Anime Hell brought the pain to Ohayocon again this weekend and, like I promised, I took notes. Most of their Japanese TV commercials this year came from the same source: JPCMHD’s Very Best of 2015 compilation. Just put this on in front of a room full of friends and soak it in.

This is the very best from 2015. Hope you guys enjooooy! (^_^)–b
This is my current desktop wallpaper. I have a dual monitor setup, so it looks like Marisa is throwing a star bomb onto my left monitor. I actually got this one from a Tumblr I'm going to call F'Yeah Pixiv that sadly isn't updated anymore. It's one of the last things posted on that Tumblr. (My old blog had all work safe text, but when I’m reblogging a user named fuckyeahpixiv-blog, I guess that idea goes out the window.)

Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi has been spending the past couple weeks distracted by the same thing I’m playing: Super Mario Maker. Polygon asked him to make a level and we got to see how he messes with the player’s expectations. This level isn’t open to the public, but IGA has been hard at work uploading even more creative levels for all to play. He’s working on a faithful recreation of Rondo of Blood with creative use of stacked enemies.
