I remember skipping my 4th hour class nearly every day for the second semester one year because my 4th hour was gym first semester and I could go there and play and run and have fun because the teachers thought I was still in the class.

I loved gym class so much, more than any other class, including art class.

can we talk about how lottienats disregard travnat/ mistynat/travis/misty as characters for their ship? they're insanely important to nat. and disregarding them means disregarding nat's development, drives, and ideals. they literally changed nat's perspective and character. like do you even care about lottienat as characters? and the whole 'i hate men so i'll ignore him and misty's a freak so i'll ignore her' like way to strip natalie of possibly the narratively two most important people to her

and i fear lottienats have a super surface level understanding be another thing is like. whether you like travnat/travis or not he's important for her characters development and drive for her entire life. there's a reason why travis haunts her story, whether you like him or not you gotta understand why he's fundamental for her character

cant stop thinking about the yellowjackets cgs still being just teenagers . like yes, they take amazing care of the little’s but it takes the combined forces of Nat, Tai and Laura Lee to try and make a bottle for Lottie the first time. And little!van whining and rolling around because they are SO bored but Mama can’t play right now because she’s doing homework. Nat and Jackie are deep into a gossip session about someone from school who had a go at Lottie in the hallway and Lottie’s just sitting on Nat’s lap with her fingers in her mouth completely unaware of what they are talking about. Shauna, who is usually the go to for English assignments, being regressed and now they’re all just making up their essays and it’s not going to end well.

Yeah so some of these couples are jokes and only "ships" in the fandom way. But you're wrong if you believe there wasn't any kind of special relationship between Robespierre and Saint-Just, Carnot and Prieur, Barère and... a lot of men. Yes, Carnot and Barère were married. Carnot loved his wife. Barère had several female lovers. Prieur had a long-term relationship with an older woman (who was married to someone else). But um... Did you forget bisexuality exists? Or homoromanticism? Or are you just de facto implying those aren't "real"? Have you internalized that they aren't real maybe? Because trust me some men love other men as much as women, as much as their wife, maybe more than their wife. David loved Drouais more than his wife - and no it wasn't "fatherly love". It was a teacher's/mentor's love with all of the ambiguity this involves when you remember they were artists and what the subjects they preferred to paint were. This culture offered a convenient pretext where you could blur the lines. And no, you'll likely never know the truth. You'll never know if they fucked other men, or how, or what positions they preferred, or if David actually fathered his own children. And honestly it's kinda creepy to take it beyond mere speculation and actually really want to know that far as if it was a fact you were owed to? You don't need to know those details. You can just know when there's obviously a loving relationship going on. That's just as true for living breathing beings you know btw. You'll never really know what kind of loving relationship they have unless they choose to tell you... or someone forcibly outs them, which is gross.

Maybe we should be happy they had the chance to live in a brief period where all loving relationships between men weren't automatically seen as "scandalous" and "depraved", that men were allowed to love each other without it being always perceived as "suspicious" and "illicit".

Barère's thoughts about Saint-Just aren't creepy because they're about another man - they're creepy because he clearly sounds jealous of Robespierre and, you know, the whole Thermidor thing and all the nasty things he said about both. But it's actually quite special that we get to read his obviously non-straight non-normative thoughts so openly. It's not "subtext" or our "fevered deranged imagination". It's just there. Your denial isn't my problem to deal with.

can I use parts of this idea? Lottie is so adorable I need to write about her now ❤️

💛☀️Thinking abt all the yellowjackets going on a trip to a farm/petting zoo and meeting up with Travis (he’s deffo a flip/uncle cg). Akilah dragging him off to go look at the bunnies immediately whilst Van, Melissa, Gen and Mari are chasing each other on those pedal go karts painted to look like tractors (Van is very much in cg space which makes the whole thing even funnier to imagine). Jackie, Shauna and Misty are all giggling copying the calves’ loud moos back to them after initially being startled, and when they get to the stables area Tai has to step in when they start bickering over which one of them is the pony’s favourite person. Lottie is sitting down on a tiny hay bale seat, super quiet and calmly feeding a baby lamb, whispering gently to it like her Mama does to her when she has her bottle, whilst Nat beams with pride.💛☀️

(I’m so close to sending this to someone as a fic request or acc tryna write it myself even tho I’ve never written fics before, but also my heart is gonna explode thinking about this😭)

The lock on the bedroom window breaks. 

Jackie notices on a Friday afternoon when she can’t get it to close right. She spends fifteen minutes trying to slam it shut before giving up and telling Nat.

Nat says she’ll fix it on Sunday - her day off. 

But then Nat gets called in to work on Sunday and forgets about it. And so does Jackie. She forgets until the summer air is replaced with an autumn breeze and the rain leaves a puddle on the floor. She forgets until she’s wiping up the moisture and in that moment, Jackie means to bring it up, she really does. But when she walks into the living room, Nat is learning chords on her new electric guitar (the one she saved up all summer to buy) and Jackie’s too entranced by the sight of her to ruin the moment.

So she forgets again. 

She forgets until it’s three in the morning and it isn’t just an autumn breeze or spotty puddle. She forgets until she’s waking up to whistling wind entrapping her in its harsh embrace. The feeling of ice prickling into her skin and seeping into her pores with a daunting whisper in her ear, telling her not to worry - she’ll be warm soon. 

Jackie’s arm flails frantically beside her - the motion repeated until new hands are placed on her forearm. Warm hands. Nat’s hands. 

“Jackie.” Nat’s voice is soft yet cut with panic. “Jackie - it’s okay, you’re okay.” 

But it isn’t okay and neither is she. 

Because she can’t remember how to breathe and the ice rushing through her veins no longer feels like a memory. It’s the furthest from okay that Jackie’s been since that night (or maybe it isn’t. Maybe it isn’t by a long shot but does it even matter? It feels that way.) when Jackie was actually freezing to death. 

She should have died then. 

That was what all the doctors said; her survival was nothing short of a miracle. 

Now, as Jackie gasps for the air she can’t quite catch - she has no doubt in her mind that they were correct. She can feel the walls around her closing in and the oxygen that should be in surplus supply growing thin. It feels like she really is dying. Like her heart could burst right out of her chest. Like— 

“Jackie.” 

Jackie turns to Nat, her eyes wide and frantic. 

“Breathe with me, okay?” 

Jackie nods. She lets Nat set a hand on her chest the way she always does when she has these… these episodes. She watches her take big dramatic breaths - counting the seconds on the inhales and exhales so Jackie will know exactly how to follow along. She watches until she must be doing it too because now, her lungs are expanding properly and her pounding heart no longer feels like it’s on the brink of exploding. 

“I’m gonna shut the window, okay?” Nat says. “I’m gonna be right back.” 

Jackie nods once more. But when Nat pulls away - she can’t help the whimper that escapes her. It’s panicked and shrill and-

Oh.

Nat’s sitting with her again. She’s wrapping another blanket around Jackie’s shoulders, telling her it’ll help with the shivering, and that the room should warm up soon. 

Jackie isn’t sure if she believes her. She isn’t sure if she wants the warmth - not if it means what the lingering whispers implied. But she trusts Nat. She trusts her more than she’s ever known how to trust anyone. 

“I’m right here,” Nat says. “And I’m not going anywhere. I promise.”
