a lot of behaviors that get attributed to "female socialization" can be so much more easily and accurately understood as a person recognizing the power differential surrounding them and behaving sensibly in response to that.
like. does a woman politely listen to a man monologue at her because of some experience she had when she was twelve that magically cursed her to behave that way forever, or does she do it because the man has the power to hurt her and she knows it?
does a woman do all the dishes in her household because she is less capable of breaking out of a long-ago conditioned response than, like, your average trained dog, or is she doing that because she knows that all the men in the house will blame her if she doesnt and will make life worse for her if she speaks up?
maybe a lot of sexist patterns of behavior that are widely observed in society arent caused by women like, lacking willpower or backbone? maybe it is super fucking weird for supposedly feminist movements to imply this is the case when they talk about female socialization as the end all, be all of predicting human behavior?
isnt it both more useful and more respectful toward women to consider that they are perceiving their present circumstances accurately, and recognize when power is already being wielded against them, and take logical measures to deescalate and protect themselves because it works? is it not fucking clear to everybody that trans women in particular have to do this all the fucking time?
Dariacore is such a wacky ass genre because you'll listen to the most fire track you've heard in your entire life, to a point where you are genuinely shocked somebody could make something so close to perfection using pre-existing vocals, only to look at the album cover and it's some shit like this. 10/10 genre would listen again
discussion about right wing radicalisation focuses near-exclusively on men becoming white nationalists but i wonder how it might manifest elsewhere. like, imagine a heavily online subculture of mostly women and they're dedicated to rooting out degeneracy, maintaining a rigid social order, refusing to acknowledge scientific consensus, being violently paranoid of a dehumanised other, adhering to exclusively eurocentric standards of beauty and politically dedicated to exterminating a minority group (possibly one that was already historically targeted for genocide). that'd be fuckin crazy lol
I think one of my biggest contentions with the broader de fanbase (esp on tumblr), is the way people seem to think the 'point' of the story is ultimately uplifting. idk if I'm just a bitter pessimist, but to me, de is much more focused on the spectacular failure to affect change in late stage capitalism. the world of de is essentially a 1:1 mirror to our own, even the more fantastical elements like the pale are obviously meant to be analogous to the existential threat of climate change (I have way more thoughts about the pale but that's an essay I have yet to write). Harry's amnesia and subsequent rediscovery of his past is synecdochally representative of the revechol and it's past. as the player, you uncover both in tandem as you progress through the central mystery of the game. the fact that Harry's ultimate failure, his relationship to Dora, is revealed at the site of a failed revolution is very intentional; both are events everyone is desperate to forget, and yet they are inescapable, informing every aspect of the present reality. again, this is all very bleak, but honestly I think if the game had a more positive outlook I wouldn't have connected with it as much as I have. it's not particularly comforting or inspiring, but it is cathartic.
usamericans when they have to read headlines: how can be I expected to process this
Still surprised when people are like “how come everybody in America seems insane” and then every single news bite is like
like thats why. You live in a blender you can’t turn off. You live inside a 27 million degree fusion reactor wherein hyperindividualism is promoted to the extent that a feeling of intense loneliness is possibly the only trait Americans can agree on. You are supposed to be crazy because there is no logical way to process what is happening.
This sounds like “doomposting” I know, but it’s not what I mean to say. You should value the ability to stay on your feet. If the Founding Fathers had intended to create a machine that makes your emotions uncontrollable I do not believe your life would not be dramatically different. The point is it shouldn’t be surprising that America is made up of what seems to be people grabbing stances they’ll die for out of a bag of random parts. You need to expend a lot of effort to remain coherent.
I deliberately cropped the screenshot because I didn't feel like making anyone read transmisogynistic garbage (if you look closely you'll notice I intentionally left some text cutoff at the bottom to show there was more context)
a bunch of trans mascs for some reason: "terfs hate all trans people equally! their rhetoric definitely doesn't cast trans fems as uniquely predatory and scary"
actual terfs:
on a more serious note, I fucking hate how everytime I try to talk about the fact that transmascs are particularly vulnerable to radicalization efforts by terfs (which yes, does often result in at least partial detransition) people interpret it as if I'm celebrating that fact. believe it or not I actually think its a pretty insidious threat to our community, and I don't know how you expect to combat it without being honest about the part regressive rhetoric and bad actors play in all this
saying trans men are gonna detransiton into terfs is an interesting take ill give you that
bold of you to assume they have to detransition to be a terf
All my coworkers like me so so so so much!!!!!!!! They believe I am normal, which is true, because I am
