Not to be dramatic, but Haiti hasn’t had a presidential election since our last president was assassinated in 2021. We haven’t had a proper government for 3 years. The U.S. has been dragging their feet convicting people for the murder and much of the case has been classified.
The U.S. has a history of overthrowing our democratically elected leaders in favor of a U.S. backed puppet, and that puppet is our Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, who has done next to nothing to support the people; he’s only there to prop up the international board of leaders in Haiti that only hold the interests American banks in relation to the country.
With Aristide in the early 2000’s, we were supposed to have a government that was elected by the people for the people; a president who demanded that the U.S. give Haiti reparations but the U.S. had him overthrown to protect their interests.
All we want is the power to govern ourselves, and choose our own leaders who actually put the country first and not American banks. We’re tired. We’re angry.
And we see what’s going on in Palestine and we weep because we see the pattern. America is nothing if not predictable.
A free Palestine is a free Haiti is a free Sudan is a free DR Congo.
you would almost think that israel has stopped killing palestinians but in the past twenty-four hours i have seen some of the most gruesome images of dead and beheaded human beings in my life, once again, in july of 2024.
israel is banking on nine months of genocide pacifying global outrage, the slow and steady extermination becoming more palatable. however, nine months in this also incriminates them absolutely.
to be committing such heinous crimes nine months in, with a genocide trial, ICC warrants pending, the eyes of the world on them shows that israel is not a state with any system of accountability, nor are its citizens or its supporters capable of mounting a real opposition to its genocidal mandate of palestinians. nine months of unstoppable and unceasing war crimes, and nine months of israel apologists refusing to give an inch as they continue to take lives. nine months of proving that they were never trying to end hamas, nor were they ever capable of it, but they seek nothing except the annihilation of palestinians and the annexation of their lands. nine months of settler colonialism in action.
nine months of palestinians being proven, beyond a doubt, completely right in their assessment of israel. a state that is beyond redemption, a state that is not a partner for peace, a state that has never stopped reproducing the violence of its foundation since the day it was founded.
can you imagine how much cobalt &c. could be saved under socialism simply by building electronics with durability and repairability in mind over profit margins and planned obsolescence
Musings from Anna Fusco
When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then?
Take a 2 minute break and read this:
Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.
You are really tired and frustrated. All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.
Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..
Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.
How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.
1. But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.
2. Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment
3. Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.
4. FOR WOMEN: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.
Not as important as native bees, but still important.
I'm going to indulge in a little PSA
It's bee swarming season! So this is my friendly reminder to, if you find yourself with a swarm, please do not call an exterminator. Bees are not pests. There's bound to be some sort of beekeeping association in your area, and there will almost certainly be a beekeeper with room for more bees who will come and scoop up your swarm for free and give them a little bee house. Where I live the fire station keeps a list of beekeepers for this exact situation so people call them.
Also a general background on swarming: swarming is a normal part of bee reproduction. In spring the population of a healthy colony will expand rapidly, and they soon run out of space in their nest. So they will raise new queens and the colony will split, with half of them accompanying the old queen to a new location some distance away. Scouts will spend a day or two looking for a good place to nest while the swarm balls up somewhere waiting for a decision. Swarming bees are surprisingly unaggressive and can basically be scooped into a box.
(Beekeepers do generally try to have some control over this reproductive process. Loose swarms don't have great survival rates, and also that's half your colony gone with the wind. If they want the colony to split, they tend to pre-empt them and just move the half of the colony with the old queen into a new hive while they're still raising the new ones. They can also sell half a colony to another beekeeper. If they'd rather they did not split, they'll keep giving them more space in the hive to expand into. A beekeeper can lose control of the situation though- imagine you had weeks of late rain/cold, preventing you from opening the hive to do any of that, and then the weather breaks and your bees, who have been going stir-crazy that whole time, are gone before you got your boots on. It can happen. There are some beekeepers who do clip the queen's wings so she can't swarm, which sounds very tricky to do tbh and not common practice for amateurs.)
On the 4th of July 2018 some anarchists in Sydney painted a memorial piece for Dan Shersty and Spit Newborn.
Dan and Spit were young anti-fascist skinheads, punk musicians, and founding members of the Las Vegas chapter of Anti-Racist Action.
On the 4th of July 1998 they were lured into the desert on the outskirts of Vegas and gunned down by a gang of 6 white supremacists, only three of whom ever served time for the murders.
Twenty years on, their memory is kept alive in the daily struggle against racism and fascist terror.
Never Forgive, Never Forget
BOYCOTT STRANGER THINGS SEASON 5 I am NOT joking.
Today, people in Oakland, California, Eugene, Oregon, and Chicago, Illinois have blocked major highways. Demonstrators in Minnesota blockaded an Amazon facility. Others from Canada to Australia have shut down ports and other infrastructure.
These courageous actions in solidarity with Palestinians are just one step towards stopping the genocide in Gaza, where the Israeli military has slaughtered over 34,000 people, the majority of whom are women and children.
It's up to us to create a world without colonial violence of any kind.
