I'm not sure how to do it organically (hehe joke) but i think if this hypothetical Bionicle team could just spend a bunch of time camping on a beach and having to do arts and crafts or concept art using very basic/ancient techniques. How would a robot on a beach build shelter? Gather supplies? Defend itself? I get where you're coming from and I think a good way to accomplish that would be deconstructing (hehehe) our idea of Pacific islanders in general.

im avoiding homework by thinking about bionicle but i really think a retelling of 2001 needs to drop maori and indigenous polynesian imagery/language as much as possible.

not entirely (obviously the names of characters and toa are kinda permanent, as well as the name "mata nui") but anything that rips off the culture needs to go. mostly.

it would be cool if bionicle was able to pull off a respectful representation of the culture but i think all good will has been shattered due to what lego pulled in 2001 and maybe just focus on heroes saving villagers, robots fighting robots and uncovering cool mysteries at this point

"but bionicle's roots are intertwined with polynesian culture!" ok? and they fucked that up hardcore decades years ago. it's soured forever. focus on the other cool parts about bionicle.

robots in wilderness will always be cool. you can throw a hint of polynesian culture in there but it sure as hell better be respectful

The devil tempted me twice today...

I was minding my business, looking at meat in Costco, and I saw him. Blue shirt, Costco hat, holding a big red bag.

"Got a hot big pizza here for sale." He called to any who might listen. Even with my eyes on the bag, I could see his gaze lock onto me.

He came closer and offered it to me directly. I had groceries to get, I could afford a Big Pizza...

I said no, and continued my shopping. But this tale is not over.

As I pushed my cart to the checkout, the cluster of shoppers parted and out stepped... Him. He saw me again and made a beeline to me.

I yet again said no... and hurried out of the store.

I don't know if I could have rebuked him a third time... him or his Big Pizza...
