Begging. He was begging her to fix him. Was he really that stupid? Were all Auradonians like that? He didn’t even know her name and he was going to let her into his mind. “Alright, sit down. I’m going to put a barrier up in your mind. Technically you’ll still hear and see the dead, but your brain won’t communicate that information to your conscious mind. We do it all the time naturally anyway,” She waited for him to get comfortable and put two fingers on each side of his temples. She let out a deep breath and breached his mind.
A barrier. That was what he had been trying to achieve with the drinking and drugs this whole time but it never lasted. It only became harder to keep it up and it was creating a more permanent barrier between him and everyone he cared about. “Okay,” he agreed softly, relaxing and letting out a soft sigh as he tried to clear his head. It felt odd, wrong almost, to have let someone else willingly into his head but he tried not to resist, tried to let go so she could do whatever she needed to with her magic.

“I could show you sometime if you wanted? It’s a really cool instrument. Not as cool as the violin though. It’s my favorite. I want to learn.” She smiles at him. “No problem. When you know what you want I’ll get it for ya.”
“I’ll pass.” Shit. He was definitely being rude but Salem never thought before he spoke and he had no real interest in learning about other instruments. “Water. I should probably just have water.”

Maleficent smiled, there was something here in this ghostly child, “Feeling homesick?” She wondered. She knew well enough that there was something wrong with him, his substance problems were no secret. “Or is it a girl?” His feelings for the ice princess were no secret either. She knew this form could be deceiving, was it enough to begin to sow some seeds of chaos?
“Are you some kind of mind reader?” He joked before shaking his head. “None --- all of the above.” Chuckling, he took another sip from his bottle, beginning to think of home. If he went back and let go of this human body, he would be free from it all. It would be too easy and that was why Salem refused to return home. “Oh, but it’s so much more too,” he admitted, wondering why he was making things so hard on himself again.

So he really didn’t remember her, how annoying. “Do you think some VK is better than you? Really? And haven’t you seen him around with everyone else? She’s not the only one in his heart…not the way you hold only her in your heart.” She held up her hand and let a few green sparks fly, “Does this jog your memory? Tell me what’s wrong, maybe I can help.”
“What are you talking about?” He had failed to keep up with all the auradon gossip and the cold only gave him more reason to stay inside lately. “Oh---” He realized what he must have asked her when they first met. “I -- I don’t know if I can.” The words of his secret felt heavy on his tongue but he was desperate for any kind of help. “I have this ability that I don’t know how to control and I don’t want it. It drives me insane.”
icyelva:
She grabbed his wrist, not willing to let him go just yet. “Can you just…try to keep yourself safe?” She said quietly. He needed friends, that was obvious. But why did it have to be her? She let his wrist go, sighing. “I am worried about you.” That’s why they couldn’t be friends.
A ghost of a smile crossed his lips, she still worried about him but being who he was, he could never ease her worries. “I don’t want to lie to you, Elva.” He murmured, dipping his head down. “I should go,” he repeated, turning to leave without a look back. No matter how much his heart ached for him to prove he was worthy of someone like her, he knew in his mind that he never could be.

“You should take me with you when you go back. I want to see the place where my dad and my other, i guess you can say, relatives are from.” She knew once the goal was completed here, she rather leave to Halloween Town then stay here or go back to the Isle.
“I can’t do that,” he spoke, still smiling. “Who’s your dad?” His own dad had told him to be careful of who he let into Halloween Town, it wasn’t exactly a safe place for humans. Most of the citizens themselves would do no harm to an outsider but being scared to death was quite a real possibility.
icyelva:
“I’ll be the judge of that.” Elva chuckled despite herself. She glanced behind them. “Just stay with me for an hour and they’ll lose their nerve, everyone does around me.” And they should, she was dangerous. She sighed and tucked her arm into Salem’s. This way it could just be for the act, she didn’t have to admit anything to him. Definitely not that she missed him.
I don’t. The words wanted to come out with the same ferocity he used to chase a high but coming from him, he knew they would offer no comfort. He was too much of a mess to be a good friend anymore. “I doubt they’ll follow me for that long, I’m not worth all that trouble. Ten minutes tops."

“Why wouldn’t you be able to drown? You’re not merfolk, are you?” The second question came out more as an accusation than anything else. Despite her own use of the gifts her mother’s blood had given her, her father’s stories had made her wary of her fellow children of the sea. “Well?”
“There’s things out there that can breath underwater that don’t come from the ocean,” he mused, giving no further answer. It was no secret that he came from Halloween Town and aside from his ability, he would have been an odd one anyways. Which explained why he rarely gave a straight answer to anything.
salem really needed to remember that not everyone had as strong a tolerance as he did. "hey, only one of us is allowed to feel worthless,” he joked before realizing that gil was serious. he really did himself as so much lesser than everyone around him. “gil---” he moved the drink away from the other male, cupping his face in his hands to force him to look at him. “that’s the alcohol talking, man.” he tried to calm him. “strong and tough, it’s bullshit. if you’re in somebody’s life it’s because they want you there. trust me, the minute someone doesn’t want you, they’d let you know. and even if they are so much better there’s still something you got that they must need.”
@graveghcst.
“sometimes i wonder if i am truly needed, y’know ? like – my dad has my brothers and ellie who are stronger and tougher than i will ever be,” he chewed on his thumb as his other hand toyed with the hem of his shirt – his fourth drink sitting in front of him, “and yeah i finally have the relationship i dreamed about but am i that needed in it ? somedays i think i’m not – especially since they are too so much better than me.”
