Creepy vibes, that’s what I’m known for.

Salem could only keep up his happy facade for so many hours in the day. It was worse now that he was trying to stay sober and the beer in his hand was a sure sign it had been a losing battle so far. He had cut back on the amount he consumed but going cold turkey still terrified him. “hm?” He looked up at the approaching figure, forcing a smile to his lips. “What makes ya say that? I just needed a break. Ate one too many snow cones, ya know?”

Maleficent had on her innocent disguise, having shape shifted to blend in with the happy Auradonians. Then she noticed one that was not so happy. A young man sitting in a dark corner of the festival all alone. “Not enjoying yourself?” She said, sounding as sweet as a typical princess.
salem could had admit, he had been a pretty awful big brother lately. one small shopping trip. he could do that while staying mostly sober. “ okay, okay. what’s it for? i need a new hoodie anyways, my other one got -- burned up,” he said with a shrug.
@graveghcst !!
“ please don’t make me go alone , “ barely a whisper from the youngest skellington , looks up to the other ; one moment , ONE moment of vulnerability you’ll get from her , “ i know it’s just a stupid shopping trip — but i … i can’t go alone . please , s . “

“oh you should never feel worthless, not when you are so damn great,” gil sighed, a pout resting on his lips as he turned to face salem, letting him move the drink even though it made him pout some more. “but i once heared that saying – wine comes in, truth comes out so it must be true. i know they care but that doesn’t mean i am needed,” he responded as he met the other’s eyes. “i suppose you are right but you don’t know – maybe they just feel bad about telling me i’m not good enough. what do i have that they will need ?” he looked down as he let his hands fall to the side, “did – did anyone ever push you away because they no longer wanted you, salem ? because if so – they’re dumb. you’re great. a little bit of a mess but that’s fine – we all are, clearly,” he offered him a small smile.
if only that were true. salem was a mess that no one wanted to deal with, including himself. the skellington boy was also terrible at offering comfort, his buzzed brain trying to come up with the answers that gil wanted. “ well --- vks, i’ve noticed don’t keep things around they don’t need, yeah? and there’s a lot about you that’s super awesome, gil. ” the words started out hesitant, salem not wanting to make gil feel judged for being a vk. “ uhh---” salem had no words for that question, hands falling from gil’s face as he thought back to all the people that had been pushed away by his addictions. “ more like --- what i did pushed them away. i’m really not that great. i’m a useless huge mess of ghost --er person,” he admitted with dry laughter.

Elva frowned, watching him go. She should just let him keep walking, she should just leave him alone. It was safer for him, it was better this way. He could be happy alone, right? Right? “Ugh!” She said aloud as she chased after him, “Salem Skellington, you get back here right now!” She demanded, “You think you can just walk away after saying something like that?” She shoved his shoulder, not hard, but enough to show him her frustration. “I’m not going to let you go and get hurt or whatever. Now who’s after you, tell me what’s really going on?”
Salem stopped, turning back to Elva . It was better if he stayed far away from her, why was she stopping him? He barely moved when she shoved him, surprising considering he was almost always swaying on his feet. “It’s nothing that serious, you know me. I just can’t stay out of trouble.” He shrugged, looking everywhere but directly at her. The bar fight that caused all this really wasn’t that serious, he had just meant he was bound to get in trouble again because he always did. It was in his nature to invoke chaos. “C’mon, Elva. You know it’s not good for you to get involved with me. I’ll just screw up your life... that’s why you don’t want to hang out anymore,” he muttered the unfair words, knowing they would hurt and he hated himself for saying it. It was just so painful to feel so much for Elva and know that he was too screwed up to ever have her.

“Fabulous you’re feeling better.” Maleficent said, deciding to employ her technique. She let the shape of the petite princess fall away and instead she was herself. But she made his mind think nothing of it. She was Maleficent mistress of darkness, but nothing was amiss. Nothing was wrong certainly. He wouldn’t tell anyone about her but he didn’t need to examine why. “Maybe now you can go get your little ice princess.” She smiled, keeping a hold on his mind.
When he pulled away, a new face greeted him but nothing registered as wrong, he was only curious. “Never thought I would be hugging, well, you.” Salem assumed she would get his meaning. “I don’t know... I still have to get clean and that’s gonna be a pain in the ass. Voices or no voices.” Withdrawals were no joke. Even a day of trying to go cold turkey was painful, mentally and physically, but he knew he could do it now that his main drive pushing him towards drugs and alcohol was gone.

“You’re right, we aren’t playing a game. But if you’d like to, I return us to our previous question of whether or not you can drown. If you can’t, you win. If you can, the victory is mine. Though I should be clear that I won’t be performing any mouth to mouth if the latter happens to be the case.” There’s a brief pause as she takes a step towards the other. “What say you? It’s only life or death.”
“I can’t --- it’ll ruin my hair.” He ran his fingers through his wild locks. Truthfully, he disliked water because he was afraid of seeing waterlogged figures underneath its depths. They were some of the worst figures, eternally trapped in a cycle of unawareness and drowning. “Besides, I need more than just bragging rights to get motivated, otherwise it’s no fun.”

“i see,” she mumbled, mostly to herself as she started to mess with organizing the booth, anything but to look at who she used to consider a close friend and feel the pain of losing him again. “you have ?” harlow questioned, slowly raising her head but not meeting his gaze just yet, “i didn’t think you mind me that much anymore.”
“ don’t sound so surprised, that makes me sound terrible --- guess i am, after all. ” he chuckled at the tragic statement, betraying that he was definitely intoxicated if it wasn’t already obvious. he could be a surprising clear speaker despite however much alcohol he consumed. “ i don’t --- uh, i don’t know. i’m not good for people, you know that.”

♛ — “I would have thought they would be talking about other stuff, like whatever is going with the VKs.” He replied back. “A drink doesn’t sound too bad. I’m sure those who are wanting to see what i’m up to would think I’m just back to my partying ways.” — ♛
“Because that topic is a total mood killer. Why talk about politics when you can talk about something safe like what’s up with a returning royal.” Salem knew there was plenty of gossip about him but standards were much different in Halloween Town. “Then come to my place. I have plenty of beer and other shit. If they don’t see you, they have nothing to talk about.”
