“That was amazing. I wish I could play the violin. I can only play bass. I loved your performance. The song was really beautiful.” She says, bouncing excitedly. “Want a beer?” She had a fake id and the people here knew her, they usually would let her drink.
“Ah, yeah, I don’t know anything about those sorts of instruments.” For him, playing the violin was like riding a bike. It came naturally to him but in reality he had no memory of learning it when he was alive for the first time. “Ye -- ah, no?” He sighed, shaking his head. “Not right now. I don’t know what I want.”

Maleficent never let the coy smile fall from her lips, “She is all those things, is she?” The ice princess did not seem to be as wonderful as he mentioned, she a lone snowflake in the middle of July, out of place and unwanted everywhere she went. but if he liked her… “She’s not all, is she? There’s a reason you find yourself unworthy of her.” She held up her hand and let a few green sparks appear, “Oh…I’m just someone who wants to help.”
Salem nodded but his eyes stayed fixated on hers’. Something about her was enchanting. A soft voice and gentle touch, she reminded him of Elva in some ways and it was enough to bring all his longing and self-loathing to the surface. “I... I’m not good for anyone,” he admitted, stare broken when he saw the green sparks fly from her fingertips. “Magic,” he whispered and Elva’s suggestion that perhaps someone could suppress his abilities came to the front of his mind. “I have abilities and --- they feel like I curse. I do bad things to suppress them but I don’t want to be a bad person,” he explained, desperation growing in his miserable state.

Elva frowned, watching him go. She should just let him keep walking, she should just leave him alone. It was safer for him, it was better this way. He could be happy alone, right? Right? “Ugh!” She said aloud as she chased after him, “Salem Skellington, you get back here right now!” She demanded, “You think you can just walk away after saying something like that?” She shoved his shoulder, not hard, but enough to show him her frustration. “I’m not going to let you go and get hurt or whatever. Now who’s after you, tell me what’s really going on?”
Salem stopped, turning back to Elva . It was better if he stayed far away from her, why was she stopping him? He barely moved when she shoved him, surprising considering he was almost always swaying on his feet. “It’s nothing that serious, you know me. I just can’t stay out of trouble.” He shrugged, looking everywhere but directly at her. The bar fight that caused all this really wasn’t that serious, he had just meant he was bound to get in trouble again because he always did. It was in his nature to invoke chaos. “C’mon, Elva. You know it’s not good for you to get involved with me. I’ll just screw up your life... that’s why you don’t want to hang out anymore,” he muttered the unfair words, knowing they would hurt and he hated himself for saying it. It was just so painful to feel so much for Elva and know that he was too screwed up to ever have her.

Irey scooped up another piece of ice cream as she listened to him talk. “That sounds pretty cool.” Only she would think dead and horrifying would look better than how everything looked here. “Wow so this must be not as cool compare to that then?” She asked.
“There’s no comparison. It’s --- different worlds,” he answered shrugging as he focused again on his treat. It was his distraction for now because what he really wanted was a bottle of any alcohol he could get his hands on. “It’s like comparing Halloween and Easter,” he added, glancing over at his companion.
"How'd you get this?" salem & adelaine!
The male shrugged, taking another drag from his cigarette. “Could’ve been a fall, an accidentally broken bottle --- wait, no. It had to be the time I totally failed at this party trick I was trying to do.”

another long night of partying and salem was completely wasted, stumbling as he walked back to his apartment. “wow --” he chuckled when he nearly ran into another guy, raising his hands to show he meant no harm. “my bad uh dude. the night’s still early but --- i went too hard.” he laughed again, shaking his head. salem probably should be more worried about being out so close to curfew but he figured he would make it home soon.

♛ — Charlie walked over to the fridge and took out a couple of beers before settling them on a table. He sat down on a couch and used his keys to open the bottles. “Thanks.” he shouted before taking a drink from one. “Not a bad place you got.” He hadn’t finish fixing his new place, it was all still weird since he spent so many years just backpacking around. — ♛
Salem mixed the drinks quickly, having a lot of practice, before he poured them in a couple of solo cups. “Don’t have anything fancy since I broke most of my glasses,” he explained with a small chuckle as he placed the drink on the table in front of the prince. “Thanks. I just picked up because I threw a rager over the weekend. Oh --- and I put two shots in there. I like my stuff strong and I figured you could handle it.”

She let out a laugh. “Well they are both very different from one another.” She said. “I mean the only real common thing between them is that you’re looking for treats and its usually in the form of candy.”
“oh yeah, candy’s always good.” not as good as what he actually desire but he really needed to get his mind off his parched throat. “hey, let’s go to one of the booths or like, explore or something.”

“You’re right, we aren’t playing a game. But if you’d like to, I return us to our previous question of whether or not you can drown. If you can’t, you win. If you can, the victory is mine. Though I should be clear that I won’t be performing any mouth to mouth if the latter happens to be the case.” There’s a brief pause as she takes a step towards the other. “What say you? It’s only life or death.”
“I can’t --- it’ll ruin my hair.” He ran his fingers through his wild locks. Truthfully, he disliked water because he was afraid of seeing waterlogged figures underneath its depths. They were some of the worst figures, eternally trapped in a cycle of unawareness and drowning. “Besides, I need more than just bragging rights to get motivated, otherwise it’s no fun.”

Maleficent closed her eyes and penetrated his mind. He was surprisingly gifted, probably because of all the difficult things he’d seen. Trauma was the best way to strengthen the mind from attack. They didn’t call it putting up walls for nothing. She filtered through the boring stuff, looking for connections. Elva, that was obvious, Harry hook, well he might be useful, but Uma would be the goal anyway and she already had that fish on the hook so to speak. His parents…they could be useful. They clearly loved him, how could she use him to get to them? That would be exciting. Finally she did what she said, built a barrier in his mind against the sensory input he didn’t want. She also left a little back door, one small enough for her to enter at any point. She opened her eyes, “Well? How do you feel?”
The physical touch of her fingertips, the feel of them falls away and instead, he feels like she is leaving fingerprints on his mind. Constantly, he felt a pressure on his mind from the voices and figures trying to claw their way inside without a care for what it did to him. After a moment, it all fell away. His mind didn’t feel empty but it felt free from the pressure that had been driving him into madness. It was a better euphoria than the drugs had ever given him and the bliss only broke when she spoke once again. “I feel --- amazing.” A large grin broke across his face and he pulled her into a hug before he could even register himself moving. “Thank you, really, you saved me.”

“I know it’s not, and I don’t expect it to.” Elva sighed, “But you don’t need something to help you, you need to get at the problem from its source.” She knew there was something about Salem and being out of Halloweentown that he struggled with, but she couldn’t say exactly what it was. “Talk to your parents, ask them how to fix this. If Fairy Godmother could dampen my powers there has to be some help for you.”
“No.” He could never go to his parents. They would call his powers a gift, they would force him to embrace them. “Wait -- she dampened your powers? Why didn’t you go to her sooner?” Part of it was Salem trying to distract from his own problem but he was curious why Fairy Godmother, who seemed to know everything, hadn’t approached Elva sooner.
