he’s got very low and high moods due to the constant smoking and drinking he does

they are his unhealthy coping methods for dealing with the voices of the dead that constantly want to talk to him

in halloween town, he was a ghost and so as a normal human in auradon, he still has ties to the after life that let him (often unwillingly) speak with spirits

he found out that being under the influence helps keep the voice away because it weakens his mental capabilities and therefore weakens the connections

the spirits don’t scare him considering he was surrounded by all sorts of supernatural creatures in his home town but the spirits that linger behind and speak with him often had tragic or unexpected ends and take his mind down very dark roads

he keeps his ability a secret from his parents because he knows they would want him to learn how to use it when he would rather get rid of it all together

his siblings might be the only ones that know about his abilities, depending how close they are

but anyone that does know his secret, siblings included, expect him to be very clingy and constantly seeking them out for comfort

also since becoming human, he’s gotten tattoos that resemble his mother’s ragdoll stitches, they wrap around his arms, legs, throat, and even his chest (think simple black lines, nothing graphic). he’s very much a mama’s boy so he did them to honor her and because he could never get tattoos as a ghost. his mother did draw the line at getting them on his face when he told her about his idea.

his parents give him an allowance for rent but he does odd jobs here and there to earn cash for his unhealthy addictions but those addictions never allow him to keep a job for long

overall, he seems very happy and sometimes annoyingly immature but he’s a very genuine guy that uses a smile to mask a lot of pain.

roommates;; could be someone he’s letting crash at his place for free since his parents pay his rent or someone that pays half the rent and he just pockets the extra cash

ex-friends;; a friendship that ended probably because they couldn’t cope with his wild ways and would rather leave than see him spiral out of control

exes;; most likely ended for similar reasons as above or they both could have been toxic partners and realized they were only dragging each other down

good influence;; he needs any good influence he can get or at least someone that’s willing to check on him once in awhile to make sure he’s alive

secret keeper;; somebody outside of his siblings that he’s trusted with his secret, the why can be plotted out

childhood friends;; bring him some friends from halloween town !

manipulator;; a vk or villain that found out about his ability and wants to use it for their own gain or they see how unstable he is and want to exploit that since he’s the son of jack skellington

unrequited crush;; somebody that he’s crushing on but either won’t let himself admit it because he knows he would be bad for them or they know but can’t return his feelings unless he’s willing to clean up his act

toxic friendship;; anyone with the same/similar bad habits as him

Why talk about politics when you can talk about something safe like what’s up with a returning royal.” Salem knew there was plenty of gossip about him but standards were much different in Halloween Town. “Then come to my place. I have plenty of beer and other shit. If they don’t see you, they have nothing to talk about.”

“ okay, okay. no more rumor talk. ” he clapped a hand on the royal’s shoulder. “ i never kid about alcohol, it’s a problem but not really. ” he chuckled, glad to have found a drinking buddy for the afternoon. “ c’mon, i have got plenty of choices. mostly beer but if you like the hard stuff i have a few things. ” he let the other go, leading him back to his apartment.

     a wince comes with her words, it’s one thing to admit to himself he has a problem, it’s another for someone else to possibly notice it. a complete stranger at that. “ no -- thanks. water’s fine. i don’t do well with medication. ” more like he had a problem staying away from it. not that advil was something he went to for recreational use. “ why --- why are you going out of your way for me? ”

For just a second, Eden debated asking what was so special about Tuesdays. She quickly decided against it. “The only thing I’m considering, is whether or not you’re worth the effort it would take to drown you,” she hissed, lips pulled back in disgust as she looked over the other. It would be easy enough to cover up. 

“Doubt I’m worth the trouble. I’m quite squirmy,” he embellished with a wiggle of his fingers. Not to mention he was also the son of the famous Pumpkin King but he never liked bringing that up unless the situation was dire. “I wonder if I can drown,” he mused since he had formerly been a ghost.

Irey herself had her own set of pancakes with the exception hers were covered in whipped cream and chocolate sauce that it looked so sweet that it could hurt anyone’s teeth. “As someone who grew up on the Isle, the food is literally one of my favorite things about this place. Like I don’t think I would have ever seen pancakes like these back at home.” Even in her old life before Oogie, the food wasn’t the greatest thing. “I’m a firm believer that anything food wise can be made. I’m sure when you go back you can convince someone to make spider pancakes or even waffles.”

“What’s Isle food like? Nothing good?” Good was a vague term for the former ghoul but he expected that even the Isle was a terrible place by Halloweentown standards. “Yeah... I won’t be back home for awhile.” He skewered a piece of strawberry, popping it into his mouth. “But I wondered if they’d make it here. I don’t see many spiders around though. Wonder if they even have any.” Salem was only half serious but a lot of creatures, insects included, were dying early in the harsh weather.

“People are curious, man. They want all the gossip.” He chuckled, talking casually with the elder brother of the king. “In my opinion, you should go for a drink to take your mind off it if it’s that stressful.” Of course that would be the Skellington boy’s first suggestion.

♛ — “People are … testing me today.” Charlie rested his forehead in his left hand, a look of exhaustion on his face. “I regret telling people that I’m back at Aurodan as the new coach for both the Tourney and Fencing teams. It’s raising alot of questions as to why I even left in the first place.” — ♛
