Elva frowned, watching him go. She should just let him keep walking, she should just leave him alone. It was safer for him, it was better this way. He could be happy alone, right? Right? “Ugh!” She said aloud as she chased after him, “Salem Skellington, you get back here right now!” She demanded, “You think you can just walk away after saying something like that?” She shoved his shoulder, not hard, but enough to show him her frustration. “I’m not going to let you go and get hurt or whatever. Now who’s after you, tell me what’s really going on?”
Salem stopped, turning back to Elva . It was better if he stayed far away from her, why was she stopping him? He barely moved when she shoved him, surprising considering he was almost always swaying on his feet. “It’s nothing that serious, you know me. I just can’t stay out of trouble.” He shrugged, looking everywhere but directly at her. The bar fight that caused all this really wasn’t that serious, he had just meant he was bound to get in trouble again because he always did. It was in his nature to invoke chaos. “C’mon, Elva. You know it’s not good for you to get involved with me. I’ll just screw up your life... that’s why you don’t want to hang out anymore,” he muttered the unfair words, knowing they would hurt and he hated himself for saying it. It was just so painful to feel so much for Elva and know that he was too screwed up to ever have her.

“what? a guy can’t eat a dozen pancakes in peace?” he asked jokingly. they were at a light night diner, mainly trying to wait out the bad weather but salem had a bad case of the munchies. the twelve pancakes he devoured attested to that and the waiter gave him a slightly concerned look when he ordered a bowl of fruit to continue eating. “i used to think food like this was gross. i didn’t need to eat in halloweentown but all the food back home had spiders or toad’s breath in it. i wonder if they could make spider pancakes.”
salem could had admit, he had been a pretty awful big brother lately. one small shopping trip. he could do that while staying mostly sober. “ okay, okay. what’s it for? i need a new hoodie anyways, my other one got -- burned up,” he said with a shrug.
@graveghcst !!
“ please don’t make me go alone , “ barely a whisper from the youngest skellington , looks up to the other ; one moment , ONE moment of vulnerability you’ll get from her , “ i know it’s just a stupid shopping trip — but i … i can’t go alone . please , s . “

“And you haven’t bothered to test it out? It seems like the sort of thing one ought to know about themselves.” Didn’t it? She believed so. “That’s…not the most detailed description, but I suppose I sort of understand what you mean.”
“How do I test that without dying all over again? It’s not a problem anyways so --- better priorities.” He shrugged, finished with the topic. “You possess someone and try to describe how it feels or don’t, I don’t care. i should ask fairy godmother if she could make this body taller,” he mused, losing track of the conversation entirely.
Salem had a lot of guilt building up in every single pore of his body. He had yet to tell his parent’s of his new ability as a human and not to mention the addictive habits he was hiding. Thankfully, his mother always warned him before coming to visit so he had been able to take the bare minimum of his daily dose of drugs to keep himself sane but at least of a somewhat sound mind. It was a good thing odd behavior was the usual for him, drugs or no drugs. “Fascinating?” He repeated in a questioning tone, as he continued to search through the clothing patches. Salem loved simply sitting with his mother as she worked, playing with the fabrics as he listened to her speak. “I liked being a ghost. Easier to scare people that way,” he mumbled like a petulant child.

Though knowing full well that her children were fully grown adults, she was also aware that they shared their father’s affinity for mischief making. While Sally herself found the trait to be endearing, she realized that other’s in Auradon might not exactly take well to some of their… antics, not in the way their parents could. Some people just didn’t understand what they viewed as ‘too different’, or downright 'weird’. So, she wanted to make sure she checked in on them every now and again. Not pestering, but simply as a mother who wanted her children to know that she would always be there for them. Pale fingers sifted through a basket filled to the brim with various clothing patches, colorful fabric also strewn about the floor around her sewing station. “You know, I almost miss stitching myself together after a nasty spill,” she mused lightly, gaze traveling to Salem with a small smile. “Then again, it’s still so fascinating, being this way. Don’t you think?”

“i think there is hope for everyone, if there is hope for me then there must be hope for you and who knows maybe tomorrow you will met someone better than me, there are plenty of people who are better than me in many ways, including more forgiving,” he responded easily to the other male, looking down before offering him a shy smile. “yeah, i think that would be for the best,” gil giggled as he pushed away the drink. “oh – they are so nice,” he breathed in awe, running his fingers over salem’s tattoos gently, “not yet. me and uma, harry and carlos are going to get matching ones,” he smiled, his expression showing just how smitten he is with his partners.
“shut up already with that. you’re the best.” he wrapped an arm around the other’s neck, ruffling his hair in a playful manner before he let him go. salem took the drink, downing the last bit himself before watching as gil traced the lines of his tattoos. “don’t touch me too much, gil.” he teased the other. “don’t want angry pirates on my ass.” he winked, knowing that gil was nothing but loyal and salem would never try to tempt someone who was taken, not even in his drunk state. “you guys are lucky to have each other the way that you do. i’m happy for you.” he meant that because as much as he envied their bond, he wanted nothing but for gil and harry to be happy. they had both been there for him in some of his lowest moments.

“I know it’s not, and I don’t expect it to.” Elva sighed, “But you don’t need something to help you, you need to get at the problem from its source.” She knew there was something about Salem and being out of Halloweentown that he struggled with, but she couldn’t say exactly what it was. “Talk to your parents, ask them how to fix this. If Fairy Godmother could dampen my powers there has to be some help for you.”
“No.” He could never go to his parents. They would call his powers a gift, they would force him to embrace them. “Wait -- she dampened your powers? Why didn’t you go to her sooner?” Part of it was Salem trying to distract from his own problem but he was curious why Fairy Godmother, who seemed to know everything, hadn’t approached Elva sooner.
