Fingers deftly sewed through the varying colors of fabric, melding two completely different patterns into one piece. No matter how oddly matched they appeared, the final product always looked good to Sally. There was a whimsical positive in the oddity of her creations; no one looked alike, and no one else in Auradon would dare sell them. Which, she thought was a true shame, but it had been the reason which spurred her to open up a shop all of her own in the first place. A soft ‘mhm’ sounded from her as she continued to work, glancing up every few seconds to catch Salem’s gaze. “Oh, I’m sure you can find new ways to give people a good spook. This is a chance for you to get even more creative. Use all that gelatinous mass our heads are filled with,” A wry smile curled onto her lips, and she paused, leaning forward on her elbows to peer at Salem directly. “Tell you what. Tell me what you’ve tried already, and maybe we can brainstorm something new. What do you say?”
As much as he adored his mother, it was hard to be around her these days. Every cell of his physical being wanted to tell her the truth, confess everything and relieve himself of the burden of all his secrets. It was odd how much becoming human had changed him. He had been human once, long ago, but he hardly remembers that life and he knows the afterlife has been much kinder to him anyways. “Do you think I can become as good as dad someday?” He asked suddenly, already knowing what his mother would say but he wanted to hear it anyways. How anyone survived without a mother like his, he would consider that the ultimate mystery. “Really?” His whole face lit up as he began to explain to her some of the usual tricks he used. “Jumping out at people just doesn’t have the same effect anymore now that my face is all --- normal. And I can’t turn invisible anymore !”
So waking up always seems to hurt.

“Yeah I’ve been coming into town more recently to visit you guys.” He smiles. “What have you been up to?”
“ Uh -- hanging out with friends.” None that Jack would recognize except Elva. “Work.” He shrugged. “Nothing here as fun as back home.”
lilxxterror:
“That’s him. Lock, Shock, and Barrel told me all about him.” She heard about all the things he had done from them and from her father. “They said he can pull some of the scariest faces around. Is it true?”
“Those guys -- they’re funny.” The stories about them were at least. “Duh! He’s the scariest guy out there. Nobody does it better than my dad.” It was clear how proud the male was to have Jack Skellington as his father.
icyelva:
Elva frowned, watching him go. She should just let him keep walking, she should just leave him alone. It was safer for him, it was better this way. He could be happy alone, right? Right? “Ugh!” She said aloud as she chased after him, “Salem Skellington, you get back here right now!” She demanded, “You think you can just walk away after saying something like that?” She shoved his shoulder, not hard, but enough to show him her frustration. “I’m not going to let you go and get hurt or whatever. Now who’s after you, tell me what’s really going on?”
Salem stopped, turning back to Elva . It was better if he stayed far away from her, why was she stopping him? He barely moved when she shoved him, surprising considering he was almost always swaying on his feet. “It’s nothing that serious, you know me. I just can’t stay out of trouble.” He shrugged, looking everywhere but directly at her. The bar fight that caused all this really wasn’t that serious, he had just meant he was bound to get in trouble again because he always did. It was in his nature to invoke chaos. “C’mon, Elva. You know it’s not good for you to get involved with me. I’ll just screw up your life... that’s why you don’t want to hang out anymore,” he muttered the unfair words, knowing they would hurt and he hated himself for saying it. It was just so painful to feel so much for Elva and know that he was too screwed up to ever have her.

“Witty. And here I thought all you’d be able to manage was some pathetic, drugged up giggling.” Likely her least favorite response when dealing with potheads. His answer might’ve even made her smile had she not been so annoyed with the situation already. “As for a date, trust me when I say you couldn’t handle it.”
“No, that’s only on Tuesdays, the special day.” Salem had no filter, no sense of when to stop but he enjoyed living life that way. Truthfully, it was the only way he knew how to survive. “Ah, but you’re considering it. That’s what matters,” he teased, knowing she most likely found him just as annoying as everyone else did.

some could say it was sad that the first person salem wanted to go to was the very person that he should hate. but it was nobody’s fault but maybe his own that elva would never return his feelings. harry was a good guy underneath all his bad boy exterior and salem had little room to judge, anyways. “so uh -- cheers ! to --- moving on ! ” he chuckled, already high because he had smoked before going over to the pirate’s place.
icyelva:
Elva raised an eyebrow as Salem came towards her. Once upon a time they were friends, but…he became too chaotic. She missed him, of course, but she missed everyone. He was more in danger close to her than he was on his own, “What have you done?” She demanded, still walking wit him, “Could you look any more suspicious?”
“Yeah, actually, I can,” he retorted, fixing his eyes onto the path in front of them. He knew someone was following him and more than likely it had to due with a stunt he pulled in a bar last week. “And I didn’t do anything that someone else didn’t deserve.” It actually pained Salem to be dragging her into of his messes, knowing how much she wanted to avoid trouble.
lilxxterror:
“It really is. Like the food in the school is good but some of things I had in town is so good. I mean not as good as my dad’s but still.” She said with some admiration. “I blame the weather but yes the woods are quiet.” Irey knew it was because the villains were planning something, something she didn’t really know though. “I think I wouldn’t have gone to school if it was my choice but dad thought it was something I should do. I didn’t really go Dragon Hall back on the Isle.”
“What does your dad make?” Maybe Salem should be thinking twice about being friends with the daughter of Oogie Boogie but she had always been nice to him. “My mom cooks more often than my dad but her baking is the best. I love her spider cookies.” Which didn’t have actual spiders in them, she often decorated her sugar cookies with spiders and all things creepy. “School’s boring, I never cared for it much either.”

Elva sighed and wrapped her arms around Salem, letting her anger fade and just taking a moment to remind him that the only reason she was mad because she cared about him. “You’re right,” She said quietly, “I didn’t give you a choice, I was so worried about hurting you that I didn’t even think there was a choice.” She pulled away but kept a hand on his arm. “I’m not forcing you to do anything, Salem, but if you really care about me, you’ll…I don’t know…get it together.” She smiled slightly, “Starting with us being friends again, okay?”
The hug was a surprise and a reminder just how touch starved he had been, he craved the touch of someone that actually cared. “I do care but --- I need something to help me.” Something to help keep away the insanity of being able to commune with the dead. His arms had come up to circle around her waist but they fell just as soon as she pulled away. “Okay but ---” It felt like he was making excuses for everything these days. “Is that really okay? Even if I do fix my shit, it’s not going to happen overnight.”
