Harlem, physically at least, has changed very little in my parents’ lifetime or in mine. Now as then the buildings are old and in desperate need of repair, the streets are crowded and dirty, there are too many human beings per square block. Rents are 10 to 58 per cent higher than anywhere else in the city; food, expensive everywhere, is more expensive here and of an inferior quality; and now that the war is over and money is dwindling, clothes are carefully shopped for and seldom bought. Negroes, traditionally the last to be hired and the first to be fired, are finding jobs harder to get, and, while prices are rising implacably, wages are going down. All over Harlem now there is felt the same bitter expectancy with which, in my childhood, we awaited winter: it is coming and it will be hard; there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Overwatch Quick Play

I only play Overwatch on Quick Play. Here’s why:

1. Ranked wait times are unacceptable. I have 30 minutes to play, I’m not spending 10 of those in lobbies. 

2. Ranked in-game drop rates are way too high. Nothing worse than waiting 5 minutes for a game and then it being cancelled 1 minute in. 

3. I can’t figure out how to get voice chat to work in my office. I guess the router is too far away.

So, hello. I'm using my platform here now to inform about what's happening in my country. I'm from Cali, Colombia. The city that's been burning for 5 days now and being massacred by its own government.

We need your help to spread awareness on this. As of yet, there hasn't been a lot of international news coverage about it, and our own news are too biased in favor of the government to be of any help.

How did it all start?

On April 28, a national strike was called for people to raise their voices against a tax and health reforms proposed by president Iván Duque, during an economic and social crisis exacerbated by the covid-19 pandemic.

Among other things, this reform wanted to tax us for funeral services (during a pandemic). They also wanted to increase the price of food and water, when most of the population has a salary that does not allow a family to live with dignity. Moreover, another nefastous health reform has yet to be taken down.

But the response of the national government to these protests has been to deploy military forces against the civilian population. A violent, disproportionate, and arbitrary action that incurs in serious human rights violations. My city, Santiago de Cali, has been one of the most affected places. During the night hours of the last few days, in different areas of the city, the police and the mobile anti-riot squad (ESMAD) have burst into peaceful demonstrations attacking with firearms, tear gas, and leaving a balance of dead and wounded that has not yet been counted. They have also captured many demonstrators, some of whose whereabouts are unknown.

My state is threatening the lives of the Colombian population in full view of the world. Please, don't let them silence us!

Targeting the link between late pregnancy and breast cancer

Why does a first pregnancy after age 35 increase the risk of breast cancer, and what can be done to combat this?

“Women who become pregnant and have children at an early age have a decreased risk of developing breast cancer in later life; however, any pregnancy after age 35 increases the risk of breast cancer” 

This global trend towards much later pregnancies while women spend their twenties and thirties on their education and careers goes against the female biology in which the prime conditions for childbearing occur in much earlier. 

The modern world has opened up educational and career opportunities to women to an extent never before seen in homo sapiens society. Where heterosexual marriage in agricultural society created the economic and social framework under which women reproduced and could received the appropriate level of resource and physical security for childbearing and child raising, the modern world has replaced marriage as the number one economic vehicle with direct access to economic opportunities. 

This leaves marriage for the modern woman a trimmed down institution servicing cultural emotional expectations (often artificially and tragically inflated by popular culture) and co-parenting. 

I propose a new method of reproduction, one that allows the female full use of her physiology at its most fertile and reproductively secure stage, and direct access to economic opportunity. 

I’ll have to outline this idea in another post. I’ve got a tennis meet up to go to. Let’s just say this new model, a model for all society, will be loosely based on the matrilineal society of the Mosuo culture.
